Moving Up In The Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HulkVader</b></div><div>Rutta’s year wasn’t ideal in Pittsburgh but he’s hardly an albatross. His cap hit is $2.75M and he’s fine as a third pairing D. On my list of Pens cap issues, he’s not a pressing issue.</div></div>
Getting rid of 2 years worth of contracts we don’t need to take on one year of a bad contract is an easy yes.

Paying a 2nd, 4th, for a washed 34 year old Mike Hoffman making $4.5m lmaooo we are better off keeping Granlund and Rutta then losing a 2nd and 4th in the process and just acquiring another cap dump for the season. No logic there</div></div>
No idea what you’re talking about because it’s an easy yes for us. We get rid of 10 million we owe useless Granlund and 5.5 million of Rutta that we can use to sign a younger defenseman. Hoffman is a no risk player. If he’s terrible we just put him on waivers. This is a steal for us and if anything not great for the Habs.

building a real contender
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rurik766</b></div><div>Haven't read it all, but the discussions around Granlund are kind of absurd. Yes, Hextal made a bad trade, but lets not forget that Granlund was just traded for a 2nd. Sure he scored one goal with the Pens, but ~20 games with a new team, in a new city is not enough to crater a players value from a 2nd to needing a 2nd or 3rd to dump him. There is definitely a team that would gladly take a versatile forward that can play all three positions, has some offence (career best 69pts, never played for a high offence team before) and can work on the pk. My prediction for him is that someone will take him on for as low as a 7th or as high as a 4th.</div></div>
completely agree with you, people will be surprised when we are not going to pay to get rid of him

I wouldn't mind that and I could see it happening. I would sign him at 5.5-6 for 2-3 years at most.

No, not all. Trying to retool best we can for Sid's last few years. We have three 4 million a year left side Dmen with POJ ready, a serious lack of 2nd line wings and limited cap space. We move an excess Dman so we can afford to bring in a much needed winger, or at least resign Rakell. Same goes for all the Petts for a pick deals on here.

Missing the entire point completely. Moving Dumo is to shed salary to be used elsewhere/open a spot for POJ, how does taking Myers back do any of that? If anything, we'd want a 3rd or 4th round pick for Dumo, not a 6 million dollar player with longer term. Same reason you're moving Pearson for picks.

Limited Options - But possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rurik766</b></div><div>I totally don't expect Rakell, ERod, Heinen and Kappy to all take discounts to stay on the team. I just really hope that Rakell does. I also hope Kappy does because the skills are there and can hopefully be tapped into on an affordable contract. As for ERod and Heinen, I would prefer to have someone like Domi in the mix then either of these guys, but we know that for stretches these two can fit on any of the four lines. I do think some of the younger guys should get a shot at making the team, but I don't think Poulin or Puustinen should be making the team over DOC or Zahorna. However, I can see Halander or Bjorkqvist being ahead of them as well because they have some PK experience. I would really like to see Angello given more of a shot simply because he is one of the few players that the Pens have with size that can actually skate.
I put Friedman ahead of POJ simply for the fact that the team seems to have him higher than POJ currently.
As for MAF, he is an interesting case. I can see a team like Edmonton willing to give him $3.5-4M a year as their 1A goalie. I could see numerous teams willing to go up to about $3-3.5M for him to be a 1B/ strong back-up. I think MAF would be more than willing to leave a little money on the table to rejoin the Pens, but I went with $2.9 for the same reason I went with $7.1M for Geno. Sid is a brother to these guys and Geno and MAF love to rib him. Them taking 7.1 and 2.9 would be "hilarious" to them. It's just almost too perfect to not happen.</div></div>
Love the 2.9 for flower. If his contract got done first it makes a ton of sense, but if we are a week into FA and the pens have 2.2 left in cap space or whatever, I think he would rather sign with them as opposed to signing with the oil for 3.5
The reason I chose POJ, Puustinen, and Poulin over the guys you have is because they all have higher potential ceilings and Hextall specifically mentioned them as players he expects could make the jump next year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SpaghettiHead11</b></div><div>I get what you are saying. I have seen most if not all of your posts but I see you always see player for player value. You don't seem to get the cap value of players vs their abilities. That, unfortunately, cap is more important than talent. MP is a high 2m low 3m player but Rutherford signed him high. He then doubled down with Matheson. I'm not saying you are wrong but can a cap strapped team afford to have roughly 13m just on their LD? MP is the loose thread and everyone knows it. PIT is not dealing from a position of strength.</div></div>
they aren't paying anyone to take MP, FFS he would be a 2nd pairing defense man on like 20 teams.

Ohh man.
Rust is coming off a 42 point season in 56 games(.75PPG) and a PPG the previous season. He value has never been higher.
And the Pens being tight against the cap. Trading a player on a good salary probably isn’t gonna happen.
Let alone trading for Kassian who is a bottom six making 3.2M per.
I think Burke/Hextall would laugh at that offer.

No they really won’t. We have 5 nhl calibre left defenseman already, 3 paid over 4 million per year long term, and a 4th that’s paid over 1 million. That’s dumb and not going to happen that they’d take on another LD that’s paid over 4 million unless they off load MP and Matheson and just rob Toronto for Reilly just in case they can’t do the prior. The pens aren’t going to pay a hefty price like a 2nd line forward and middle 6 winger for a LD regardless of who it is.

For the love of god, Burke is not the gm. Hextall is. Hextall is the one in charge of the trading and drafting. Burke only does the extra stuff like interviews and stuff. The pens don’t need a 4th LHD making over 4 million next year. Unless it’s the pens robbing the leafs and/or the leafs are taking a high priced LD back, the pens aren’t going to trade for Morgan Reilly

ATTN LEAFS FANS - STOP THE REILLY TRADES
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rurik766</b></div><div>Hextall doesn't give a crap about what JR paid for Zucker. When Hextall came in, he should have been given a clean slate, where what the previous management paid for players didn't matter. The fact is the Pens can't afford Zucker, Matheson and Petterson. Zucker shouldn't be protected and Seattle will take one of these three. Pitt would have to pay for Seattle to take Matheson. Petterson probably has the best trade value as his contract doesn't look as bloated as Zuckers and top 4 LD are in slightly higher demand than a top 6 wing. Because of this and because Pitt doesn't really have anyone else to protect, I assume that they protect Petterson in that 3rd D spot and then trade him this summer. Or trade him before for someone that is exempt. The bigger question is whether Seattle would consider any of the BART line over Zucker, but the Pens will protect one of the three (hopefully Blueger).</div></div>
No no, you don't get it. That guy watches the Pens all the time. He's an expert on all things Penguins! lol
