The Bruins are in a tight spot and would likely have to move him and the Pens should be looking to move on from Rutta and DeSmith but they don't have to be in the same deal and they don't have to go to Boston. Looking at this, I need to go back to the drawing board because I think Domi is going to get a bit more (probably closer to $5M AAV) which makes Hall impossible. My goal was a somewhat high end LW from a team that is desperate that would only cost about $4M against the cap. Also ideally moving on from some players that are somewhat redundant for the team I put together.

building a real contender
Haven't read it all, but the discussions around Granlund are kind of absurd. Yes, Hextal made a bad trade, but lets not forget that Granlund was just traded for a 2nd. Sure he scored one goal with the Pens, but ~20 games with a new team, in a new city is not enough to crater a players value from a 2nd to needing a 2nd or 3rd to dump him. There is definitely a team that would gladly take a versatile forward that can play all three positions, has some offence (career best 69pts, never played for a high offence team before) and can work on the pk. My prediction for him is that someone will take him on for as low as a 7th or as high as a 4th.

No Rust is a product of being a very good 3rd line player/ penalty killer that Sully tried to make into a top 6 winger because there was no one else. Before they traded for Rakell the second best RW on the team after Rust was Kappy. If The Pens can get a cheap RW that can push Rust to the third, the team would be much better off.

Whats the deadline
I'm kind of hoping that with Geno, he makes it to free agency, finds out that no teams are willing to pay him what he wants for the ~50-60 games he is likely to play, then he comes running back to Hexy who signs him to a deal that most fans won't be comfortable with, but not so bad that it screws up the next few years.

Just messing around with a new idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Alfie11</b></div><div>I know who Filip Lindberg is which is why I feel comfortable calling him a no-name prospect lol. He’s at best your 3rd best goalie prospect, which is saying something because the Pens prospect pool is famously devoid of talent and depth, and is 23 with exactly 7 pro games under his belt as an undersized goalie. He’s an AHL backup that might top out as a #3 in a few years if you’re lucky. He’s not relevant. You could’ve at least put in Blomqvist.
If the Flames do end up needing to trade Mangiapane, every other NHL team will beat this offer in a heartbeat. Which isn’t difficult because you didn’t even include a 1st. I don’t think the Pens have really anything of interest, <strong>but this year’s and next year’s 1st + Blomqvist + Kapanen</strong> might be close enough that it wouldn’t simply be immediately dismissed.</div></div>
Just so you know that at the $5.5M that Mang is signing in this situation the compensation if it was an offer sheet would only be 1 first and a 3rd. Yet you think the bolded would be fair? For an RFA? Really? Sure Kappy is not worth a 1st, but Kappy plus a 2nd could be. Poulin was a first round pick 3 years ago, so that's essentially 2 firsts already plus Lindberg and another 2nd. So if you think Mang is going to get 2 1sts, a 2nd and a "B+" level goalie prospect, I think you are going to be very dissapointed.

From what I have seen with Zucker is that it's not exactly about whether or not he is going to a good team. He is more focused on his family (which includes his step children). It's the step children that create the biggest issue because their father has visitation rights. I just figured that if this is a concern of his, he would be less likely to want to spend half the season in Canada. I guess Toronto and Montreal are both relatively close to Minnesota, but Toronto have zero cap space for Zucker and Montreal is definitely on his no trade list.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>Really would love this top 6.
Couple points: Zucker has a NTC that would no doubt include Anaheim and Arizona. McGinn should try to be moved at all costs. He was not good at any point during the season. And putting DOC/Zohorna in his place saves $2mil. Trade him for a washing machine lol.
To fill in the unknown's; maybe Manson, DOC, and Heinen?</div></div>
He has a 10 team NTC, so that probably covers the 7 Canadian teams, then likely a bit of a crapshoot from there. Could include Philly, NJ, Detroit, Anaheim or Arizona. So it's not completely far fetched to think he could be moved to Anaheim.

With a QO of just over $800,000 and with the season he had (up and down the line-up, a healthy scratch a few times), I don't know how anyone can expect KK to get a "substantial raise." Sure it will likely be a raise from what his base level was, but it should be a reduction from what he actually made last season.

Limited Options - But possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hullsy09</b></div><div>I don’t think we resign all of the forwards you have signed. I think instead we let Puustinen and/or Poulin break into the lineup to save some cap space. This would allow us to pay a legit solid second line winger. I also think POJ makes the team over Friedman. MAF would also take a bit less which could go to *insert second line winger from FA*. It would look something like this.
Guentzel-Crosby-rust
*insert second line winger from FA*-Malkin-Rakell
Zucker-Carter-Heinen/Erod(one stays one walks)
Poulin/Puustinen-Blueger-Mcginn
Dumo-Tanger
Math-Marino
POJ-Chad

🌹
Or you dump zucker to whoever will take him and whoever isn’t against his NMC and keep both Heinen and Erod. This is what you would have to do if one of Malkin, Letang, or flower want more than expected OR you wanted to make an even bigger splash on *insert second line winger from FA*</div></div>
I totally don't expect Rakell, ERod, Heinen and Kappy to all take discounts to stay on the team. I just really hope that Rakell does. I also hope Kappy does because the skills are there and can hopefully be tapped into on an affordable contract. As for ERod and Heinen, I would prefer to have someone like Domi in the mix then either of these guys, but we know that for stretches these two can fit on any of the four lines. I do think some of the younger guys should get a shot at making the team, but I don't think Poulin or Puustinen should be making the team over DOC or Zahorna. However, I can see Halander or Bjorkqvist being ahead of them as well because they have some PK experience. I would really like to see Angello given more of a shot simply because he is one of the few players that the Pens have with size that can actually skate.
I put Friedman ahead of POJ simply for the fact that the team seems to have him higher than POJ currently.
As for MAF, he is an interesting case. I can see a team like Edmonton willing to give him $3.5-4M a year as their 1A goalie. I could see numerous teams willing to go up to about $3-3.5M for him to be a 1B/ strong back-up. I think MAF would be more than willing to leave a little money on the table to rejoin the Pens, but I went with $2.9 for the same reason I went with $7.1M for Geno. Sid is a brother to these guys and Geno and MAF love to rib him. Them taking 7.1 and 2.9 would be "hilarious" to them. It's just almost too perfect to not happen.

Something about a band
I agree that it might not be ideal, but unless Hextall is released in the next few days, he doesn't have much options. The current management like Zucker, sure they wish he was cheaper and/or produced more, but he just had brutal injury luck this year. Because of those factors no team is going to touch Zucker, plus the Pens will feel bad and not shop him anyways.
As for this being the same team but older...yeah but no. This wouldn't be Carter playing 2C and sometimes 1C for half a year with ERod playing in the top 6 most of the year. This is with an actually reliable back up goalie/1B. This is keeping Sid happy by keeping Geno (healthy this time, hopefully longer than usual) and Letang around. This isn't replacing Kappy with DOC, it's replacing him with Rakell. This is replacing the corpse of Boyle with currently DOC, but it could be Zahorna or Angello or Puusenen (or however it's spelled) or Bellerive or Legare or several other guys that will get a shot in camp.
Yes I put POJ in there but it could be Friedman. The team plays well with Friedman in, just wish Sully would quit with playing MM with Letang.

Sully has also been playing Zahorna between Zucker and Kapenen. I do think having Zahorna or ERod there until Sid is back is a good idea. ERod is not a top 6 player, but for a few games he wouldn't be invisible in that spot and it allows Blueger to develop more chemistry with the players he is more likely to be playing with.

Eee...I think you need to rework the lines a little. Remember that Sully is still the coach, so Zucker will be tied to Geno (unless he goes god mode with Carter while Geno is out), if he isn't tied to Geno, he still won't be played with Sid, that's Rust's spot and Sully won't hear other wise. But the biggest issue is that you have basically a rookie D man, playing his off side and having to try to cover for Matheson. That just isn't going to happen. If either Petterson or Matheson aren't moved, then I fully excpect Friedman to get that spot or Ruh.
