Personally I'd rather see Filip Zadina or Brady Tkachuk as a top 6 LW on the Oil. Good try Coyotes fan.

Thread:
oilers trade with NYR
Pulujarvi will for sure be a 20+ goal scorer next season barring injury, he is on a 17 goal pace right now playing 10min a night on the 3rd and 4th line with no PP time. Yamamoto is tearing it up in junior right now at a higher ppg then Draisaitl had. Draisaitl scored 51 points centering the first line the year after. Basically I expect Yamamoto and Pulujarvi to be the top 6 RW next year.
I have seen a majority of Cagguila's NHL games, and I believe he has the potential to be a really good 3rd line winger. He played well as our 1RW in the play offs last year, and has inconsistently shown flashes of the NCAA star he was. He is scoring at a 13 goal pace this season and people are still saying he is struggling (inconsistent line mates, injuries, not playing as well as he did in playoffs, healthy scratched, etc). Suffice to say his ceiling is higher than 13 goals considering he is only 23.
Benning has also had a bit of sophomore slump, but his rookie season last year, people were talking about how he was trending to be a top 4 dman or atleast a really good 3rd pairing dman. I wouldn't write him off yet, especially as he will cost between 1-2m, and we will want to keep him on a value contract after we can trade Sekera and Russell in summer 2019.
Ethan Bear is not quite ready for the NHL. I'd rather see him as a #1 in the AHL then a number 6/7 on the oilers for a year. Auvitu can fill that role for us for one more year.
Zuccarello is two years removed a 26 goal campaign, and is 30 years old. He would slot in at 3RW in our lineup. Considering all of this I wouldn't make the trade.
I don't mind trading Kassian, as he is 1m too much for a 4th line winger that is really inconsistent.
My guess would be Strome 3m Cagguila 1m Slepyshev 1m
Lastly, Chiarelli has already said he's trying to compete now, which means he's not looking for draft picks, but NHL prospects who are close to playing. Which means you probably won't see him make a trade 3 players for 1.
I don't know much about spooner, but I thought he was a center, with 4th line numbers? and 4.5m for his production is horrendous, almost as bad as Lucic. But... based on the lineup you gave, I will show you my starting lineup if I was the coach.
RNH McDavid Yamamoto
Lucic Draisaitl Puljujarvi
Khaira Strome Zuccarello
Aberg Spooner Slepyshev

Will Chiarelli bet on Evander Kane?
I want nothing to do with a 30yo who is more injury prone then Kane and will also want a long lucrative contract. People said things about Hall's attitude and thats why he had to go. NJD says Hall is so good this year because he matured and is just focused on doing as much as he can for his team.

IF Talbot AND Sekera rebound, AND Yamamoto and Puljujarvi both have productive seasons as top 6 wingers, AND our team is relatively healthy we could be contenders. Thats a lot of ifs for me though. Also, Russell and Benning are both weak in the 2RHD spot. Give it to 19/20 and either Bear might be ready to fill that spot or we could use Sekera and Russells cap space to fill that hole.

Almost swap cap hits for Strome and Nurse haha.
Also, why would you trade Sekera and retain 2m when he's a really good player who is worth 5.5m when he is playing at his best. I don't know if he will get back to his best, but give him another year and he provides his trade list in summer 2019. By then he might have regained his form and have positive value even at 5.5m. Realistically we are not going to be cup contenders in 18/19, so theres no point in giving up picks or retaining salary for an upgrade.

Every good rookie on an ELC, Drake Cagguila, Ryan Carpenter, Tyler Pitlick, Alex Chiasson (only 660k), Marcus Granlund. I'm sure you could find more if you went through every team. Good teams find these value guys then let them them go when they ask for big raises.
Oh and William Karlsson has 35 goals at 1m and Jonathan Marchessault has 65 points at 750k (yes I know they are both getting massive raises)

Bridge Nurse. Cagguila and Slepy have had awful seasons, they don't deserve more than 1m. What other garbage deals? Replace Gibbons with Pakarinen Rattie or Benson all for under 1m if that makes you happy. The oilers can make it work as long as they trade Sekera and Russell in the summer of 2019.

For how poor of seasons Slepyshev and Cagguila have had, I don't think they deserve more than 1m. And lock em up for 4 years because I think they can both be better than 1m players :)
Gibbons you are probably right, my point is more that I think we should be pursuing a 1m winger that can score 10 goals, vs a 2m Kassian that might not hit 10 goals and is not consistent.

Yeah, I think he could be a good fit with McDavid, he's a power forward like Maroon, but fast. Also, I was thinking about Vancouver as well, Edmonton/Calgary is the next closest you're getting to B.C. besides a Seattle expansion.

There would be a market for Kassian now for teams looking to add some size and grit. My point is that we can replace a 2m 4th liner with a 1m 4th liner who can score 10 goals a season. Theres lots of 1m 4th liners who score 10 goals over a course of a season, doesn't have to be Gibbons. Buffalo will probably be looking for a cheaper backup, no? If not, I'm sure there will be some other team willing to take Montoya as a back up for a low draft pick.

I think you play RNH left winger and play Puljujarvi in the top 6. He is on a 17 goal pace this season playing 10min on the 3rd and 4th line with next to no PP time. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets 25+ goals in the top 6 next year.
That would also allow you to bump Lucic to the 3rd line. If Yamamoto is ready for the show, that even gives you more depth or the ability to not sign one of Vanek or Grabner. On a deep team I believe Grabner is a 3rd liner.

We can't afford them this year. Like I said, summer 2019 Sekera and Russell provide their trade lists, then we can evaluate. Even with Carlson and a .93 goalie we are not a contender next year because we do not have the winger depth yet.

Just my opinion though.</div></div>
RNH struggles when he played with with wingers like Eberle and Lucic as a checking line against other teams top lines. While McD and Drai were teamed up against other teams top checking line. RNH hasn't played with good wingers since Hall was traded.

Definitely a valid plan. I like having RNH to be able to cover for McD or Drai if they get hurt, but Strome has shown this year he can do an okay job of it, and thats without good wingers. Plus if you switch Gallagher for Galchenyuk like I said on the other post, Galchenyuk is also capable at covering for center.

However, I would switch RNH and Draisaitl in your lines, at least for a while. i also think it might be nice to get an experienced guy to help lead the team. I am not sure who...</div></div>
We also don't have top wingers right now so if Puljujarvi and Yamamoto develop like we hope they will, and Drai/RNH play LW, we are missing 1 LW spot in the top 6. Thats why Tkachuck or Zadina in my opinion. I prefer Drai over RNH as 2C because I think Drai is better able to check big centres like Crosby Kopitar Getzlaf than McD or RNH. Think playoff series against the Ducks last year. But we haven't seen RNH as a winger yet so I don't know for sure!
Thats a good point and a thought I have also had. But for next year we do have Sekera and Russell. The following year if we trade both of them we have Talbot 32yo, Larsson/Klefbom/RNH all 26/27yo, Milan Lucic (if we keep him) 32yo, Kassian 29yo. So thats probably enough experience/age if a couple of those guys are the guys to speak up and be a leader in the dressing room. I hear Larsson is and thats why he was given the 'A'
