Very true. Could make all the difference. Just wanted to see if it could all fit, more than anything. Beef up that 3rd Line and their 5 v 5 Scoring.

Very minor details, but I think MTL has a plethora of D prospects that they'd decline this trade. I'd give them a similar value forward prospect instead.
I think Bonino easily gets claimed if sent down, and I think he's gonna be paramount in the playoffs. At the very least I'd have him on the roster over Brodz. We should have accrued enough cap space by now to make the team cap compliant with Bones over Brodz at the TDL</div></div>
Good call with Bonino. Down on him lately, but his experience in the Playoffs could be crucial.
Tarasenko and his NTC were the reason I gave him the 2nd. Less places for Ottawa to peddle him.
I figured Jones wouldn't be enough. Just left him in there, in the event people wanted to throw in their own preferences.

A realistic option, absolutely. I decided to push the Cap a little farther with him, just to show a bigger Contract could fit.
That extra $600K could definitely come in handy.

Not Tweaking
Not only does Goodrow still have an important Defensive role on this team (despite his Cap hit), but those are some major assets being dealt away for rentals.
Considering what they need, I don't think they need any Blockbuster type deals to put them over the top.
If Kakko can come back and ramp up his game, then a 3C and a middle 6 type RW are all that's needed.
They're at the top of the Standings for a reason. Don't need to give up the farm to patch the few holes they have.

I applauded the deal when it was signed. Even if he gave you about 40 points for the Season, getting him for under $1M was a bargain.
While things have worked out wonderfully with Vesey and Gustafsson at that low price tag, Wheeler just hasn't performed as expected (even to that miniscule amount).
While I won't go back now and dump all over the signing, it's past the point where they feel they need to throw him out there because he's a "bargain".
He's a detriment. End of story. For a team at the top of the Standings with Cup aspirations, they need to get someone who can perform.

I’m just curious to ask 🤔</div></div>
Besides the assets he brings to the table (physicality, point production, experience, Playoff pedigree), but his signing and Kakko's return would finally push out Wheeler out of the Lineup.
Wheeler's legs are gone. His Offensive production (on the Top Line, no less) is nonexistent. And even in his prime, he wasn't a good Defensive player, so nowhere for him in the Bottom 6.
And as I said, no assets given up. Even if an argument can be made to other players being a better "fit", it's low risk/high reward all around to me.

He's been disliked most of his Career. But not only is the recent incident something that can be overlooked (as it wasn't anywhere near what the rumors were suggesting), but his production on a lackluster Chicago team wasn't too bad. For a bottom line pest with experience, I'll take it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AEcho</b></div><div>NSH declines. The way I'm seeing this is Novak for a 1st, and Nyquist for prospect + 2nd. 2 things kill this deal for NSH.
1. The retention on Nyquist absolutely makes this not worth for NSH, as they only have one spot left, and I'd rather not have that retention on the books through the rest his contract unless the return is really worth it. 2. Robertson is not the prospect I'd want in return for this. NSH already has a massive stockpile of defenseman who are just waiting to be called up, on both right and left sides. NSH is looking to likely move on from defenseman rather than bring more in. NSH is going to look for a forward as part of that return, and I'd lean toward center or LW. I wouldn't ask for Perreault, as much as I'd love to have him, but I'd be looking at someone like Othmann instead.</div></div>
Would eliminating the retention therefore eliminate the need for a Prospect to be included?

No problem with Wheeler as a healthy scratch, but Chytil's issues are troublesome. Can't really trust him, at this point.

More of a need for a Top Line RW and a 3C.

Vesey has been excellent. Along with Quick and Gustafsson, they've been the biggest financial bargains for this team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>I had Wheeler for less than 40 points and a complimentary player. People shouldn’t have expected much from him
The problem is that goodrow and Bonino are the same exact played. If you play 1 of them, you need to bench the other. It’s awesome that Bonino can win faceoffs and block shots, but that usually means he’s always playing defense, can’t hold possession and can’t create offense</div></div>
They're primarily a Defensive Line. Correct. That's their primary role.
If the FO beefs up the Top 9 with moves such as this to improve 5 on 5 play, I don't think people will mind as much about a Defensively sound 4th Line.
While and Goodrow and Bonino don't provide Offense, they at least fit that 4th Line structure well.
Wheeler was never a great Defensive player, and now his Offense has dried up. He's relatively useless everywhere.

For a 4th Line Center, I'm OK with that. Sure, you would like a little more Offense. But I think Bonino has performed more in line with the role that he was brought in for, more so than Wheeler has. People hoped Wheeler would at least give you 40 Points this Season, playing anywhere in the Top 9. He's now on the #1 Line, and still nowhere close to that expected production.

Pitlick, perhaps. Wheeler is getting Top Line minutes, and still only has 4 Goals this year at 5 on 5 play. Playing with Kreider and Zibenejad has sort of hid what a detriment he has been. Once he gets moved down after they bring in a more talented option to play RW, I literally can't think of any positive role he would bring to the Bottom 6.

Goodrow might not be around for the future, but they need his Defensive game now. Plus, his Contract works beautifully for a Buyout. Much better route to take than dumping numerous assets.

Tarasenko might not even get a 1st by himself, according to some Sens fans. Especially with his NTC determining his preferred location.
But even then, I would offer that before we offered Schneider. He's too important to them right. More than acquiring Tarasenko.
If need be, we would just pivot towards Duclair or Novak.

Taking a Risk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Coachchippy</b></div><div>The thing about trading Chytil is that it cuts the Youth Core into nothing, and sends us right back into rebuild mode in 5 years. If the Rangers trade a winger like Kakko, it's not the end of the world because we have people in the cupboard to replace him like Perrault, Othmann, Sykora. But the Rangers don't really have a high-end centre prospect to replace Chytil. Unless they were to draft one this year of course.</div></div>
Excellent point, but it depends on whether you think he'll be available at all.
If Chytil were healthy, it would make all the sense in the world not to trade him. He would not only be performing as expected, but you would be more reliant on him since you have no one to replace him.
But on the other hand, if the Rangers FO is of the belief that these concussion issues could ultimately compromise him further, then it makes no difference. Yeah, you're still in a hard spot with no one to replace him. But if he's not going to be out there at all, you're forced to throw something out there anyway.
And at the very least, Sissons gives you a stopgap while you search for more options.

I didn't go too crazy at first, considering I figured people from either side would have strong opinions. That's why I posted it as 1 for 1.
But in the back of mind, I thought about throwing in a Pick for either side. Which makes me think something like this could be possible.
Chytil is the Wild Card here. His potential is greater, but his injury history could be more detrimental. Both sides are taking a risk that might only pay off for one of them.
I'd hate to see Chytil go, personally. Really broke out nicely last Season. But the way this current Contender is built with the 1-2 Punch of Zibenejad and Trocheck up top, Sissons just makes too much sense. Rounds out the 3rd Line beautifully on Offense and Defense (as you noted). Not a rental. Cap savings. To the point where even if Chytil regains his form, the Rangers still walk away with a solid asset.

I think that's why the Monahan proposals are still going strong. And if Chytil doesn't show progress soon, it would be fair to keep them coming.
Other than needing that potential depth at C, I feel like low budget RW adds are the way to go. No need for Tarasenko 2.0 or anything else of that nature.
