Krakies
Why would the Avs pay a 3rd to get Seattle to pick Graves? Either Graves or Donskoi will probably be the pick anyway. I don't see them giving up anything to get it to go either way.

Why am I not seeing offer sheets
Because in general, teams shy away from offer sheets. They are few and far between. It's almost an unspoken rule. Even when teams do use them, it is very rare that they aren't matched. The last was 14 years ago.

In this situation, yes. Grub has outperformed Gibson over the last few years. If it was just a simple choice between the two, it would be a toss up. I might lean Gibson since he's a little younger. But I'm not giving up Girard, Ranta, and a first for that little bit of difference.

His 10 playoff games in 2018-19 make him offer sheet eligible. They are also the reason he has to be protected in the expansion draft.

Are we talking about the Jones from 4 or 5 years ago or the one currently playing?
Jones has been in a steady decline and is actually a below average player now. The best part of his game is the power play and he would never see the ice there with the Avs behind Makar and Girard.
The 1st rounder by itself is an overpay.

One of the best D cores ever possibly
You let Landeskog, Grubauer, and Saad all walk and gave away Kadri, a first rounder, and two thirds. Everything you brought in isn't worth half of that. You've got the team battling in the middle of the pack instead of going for the President's Cup again.

It's already reported that EJ is waiving his NMC, so with the trade of Graves it won't leave a D-man that I think Seattle would take.

Just to be clear WAIVERS
Once a player is no longer waivers exempt (based on length of time since signing first contract, age, and NHL experience), they must be placed on waivers before they can be sent down. Any team can claim a player off waivers. If more than one team claims a player, he is awarded to the team with the higher priority. Once a team is awarded a player, he must remain on their roster or be returned to waivers. He can then be claimed by another team. If not claimed, he can then be sent to the minors.

matthews arrested
I don't know if he was actually arrested, but he was charged with disorderly conduct back in May. It seems he was drunk and tried to get into someone's car. Then walked away and pulled down his pants and grabbed his butt cheeks.
Possibly some fines and community service, but I really doubt he does any jail time.

EJ had shoulder surgery, not expected to start the season.
They will have issues on their 3rd pairing. So please come back to reality.</div></div>
All reports are that Cole will be back by December, so you are overstating his situation.
Not sure about your information on EJ. Latest reports are he will be ready for opening day.
Girard-EJ and Zadorov-Makar are set for the top 2 lines.
They can easily make a serviceable 3rd line from Barberio, Graves, Connauton, Timmins, Byram, Rosen, and Meloche until Cole comes back.
Byram will most likely suit up for the first 9 games. If he shows he's ready he will stay, otherwise he'll go back to juniors.
Timmins will most likely start in the AHL until he's in game shape and could then be called up.
The last thing they need is an aging LD (they have LD galore. It's RD they are a little short on) with 4 more years on his contract.

Resigning and Trading
This is by far the stupidest moves I have ever seen. I don't know if you just hate Kadri or what, but why essentially give him away for nothing after we just traded for him?
And no, shorter term does not mean more money. It is just the opposite. Shorter term means less money in the NHL. This isn't MLB. And you don't want Mack and Mikko coming off the books the same year. It should be staggered so you only worry about negotiating with one each year.
The Brassard experiment was a failure. He isn't coming back.

Marner Three Year Term
Since Panarin is a winger, it would take over $11,642,857 AAV to make Marner the highest paid winger. Personally I don't think he should get that much, but Aho signed for below market value. It's doubtful you'll see Marner or the other top RFAs signing that low. Marner, Rantanen, and Point will most likely all be in the 9.5 to 10.5 million range.

I doubt the Canes would take the deal. Marner would take up the salary of both Teravainen and Pesce plus what little cap space they have. Then they'd also have to fill Pesce's roster spot. Marner isn't a big enough upgrade over Teravainen to justify that. Especially with Teravainen and Pesce on nice contracts for the next 5 years.

Marner and Gardiner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Buds4Life</b></div><div>Leafs can exceed cap limit by 1.5M because of LTIR cap relief after Clarkson deal and Marner signing in season.
</div></div>
I don't know where you got this idea, but you are wrong. The cap formula on here is a best case scenario assuming they get the max relief possible, so you cannot exceed the cap number by 1.5 million. And Marner signing in season would make it even more complicated and would not be beneficial capwise.
The cap figure is calculated on a daily basis. The later he signs, the fewer days his salary is spread across resulting in a larger cap hit. If he signed 30 days into the season with a 10.5 million AAV , his cap hit for the year would be about 12.5 million. And since they will not be accruing cap space during that time he isn't signed, they won't be able to cover that unless they trade some other higher salary players to make room.

If we had Buffalos luck
I think if I'm going to take another team's luck it would be Jersey. Twice in the last three years the Avalanche have had the best odds in the lottery and the Devils jumped to the top.
That's fine though. Hischier is good, but I don't think he will have a much better career than Makar. We'll see what Hughes becomes, but I'm fine with Byram.
The one time Buffalo got the top pick, they had the best odds. The year they got Mittlestadt they didn't even move up.
