Realistic Move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>The point is do you think the Habs old GM is going to suggest overpaying for a player who has been one of their worst defensemen on a team full of rookies and near the bottom of the standings. Someone can overpay for Edmundson, but Blake’s trade history does not reflect it will be him, especially with such little cap space for next season after they sign Vilardi and a goalie.</div></div>
Do you know anything about the “Habs old GM”. The dude spent 10 years collecting depth dmen. He values them more than anything else and they don’t have to be good. How much influence he would have on Blake in this scenario is to be determined, however. But would he be interested? Absolutely. And he knows it would cost more than a 3rd I’m sure.

Welcome to the days leading up to the trade deadline where players are often traded for far more than you feel they are worth. There is precedent that makes the Edmundson proposal quite plausible.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Edmunson has been particularly awful this season, the Kings have the old Habs GM as part of staff who was able to get the rights to Edmundson for a much lower price. The most I'd want to pay is a 3rd for Edmundson (50% retained)
I'm not sure Edmundson could even get the job from Edler as the 3LD.</div></div>
Trading for the rights to a dman days away from becoming a UFA is not the same as trading for a dman at the deadline lol

I don’t think NJ would pay that price but they are going to get absolutely WALKED in the playoffs. They need to seriously consider adding some muscle. You think Tom Fitzgerald didn’t ponder that when he saw Anderson drop the mitts after the hit on Suzuki last night? Anderson stock rising. 📈📈📈

I think they would be open to moving Duclair but the issue may be I don’t think players can be traded while on IR? And they may need to make a move to activate him.

Not sure how I feel about moving him to forward but skating is one of his biggest strengths, often scoring end to end goals. Worth a Twitter search to watch some clips, he’s pretty good

I think it’s a little early to be declaring it either or. The returns have been underwhelming, no doubt, but it’s also 3 weeks out from the deadline. As it gets closer, it could take a turn In favour of the sellers

The Missing Pieces

Sometimes players with long-term injuries can be placed on the LTIR to free up salary cap space for their team. So just because Quick isn't visibly injured doesn't mean he couldn't be on LTIR.</div></div>
False. The league does regular checks and medical testing on players moved to LTIR, especially those moved there indefinitely.

Is that a rule? I know they could investigate it. Not the same thing but eerily similar as when Orpik was traded from Wsh to COL, bought out by Colorado then signed in Wsh for much less. That was investigated and deemed ok.

I wouldn’t want my team trading for Anderson so I agree with that. But usually where there’s smoke there’s fire.

Rumors abroad
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>What Montreal fans blissfully ignore are the stipulations put on that first. I think we can say with 100% certainty that no GM offered a 1st for Anderson without retention. It was probably something like Anderson 50% retained plus a good prospect for a protected first in 24 or 25.
Hughes is just trying to hopefully drive the price up slightly by hoping someone falls for his fake "first and top prospect" ask.
Standing his ground on not trading Anderson is probably pretty easy. Without significant retention he won't be traded.</div></div>
Zero chance Hughes retains on Anderson or anybody else for 4 years.

Trade Deadline - Possibility
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>cherry picking a hand full of games doesnt set a players value, players go on 20 game heaters and fall back to earth all the time. He was awful in Calgary for multiple years, he had a bolt of energy to start the season, then had a 10 game stretch of something like 3 points, then picked up some more points before getting hurt.
Monahan went from no value to some value, that is a win for montreal, let's stop pretending like hes now a 2C bc he picked up a few early season points. His same issues remain, consistency, staying healthy, his poor skating, and lack lustre defence. Those did not go away over night</div></div>
There’s also his cap hit. Have to believe he would’ve had value at 50% in the offseason… and now.

What team in the league is giving up a 1st rd pick for a guy like that? I’ll answer it for you nobody.</div></div>

I don’t think it’s farfetched to expect a 1st if monahan comes back and plays well and is healthy. That is still significantly cheaper than Horvat and Meier will cost and likely cheaper than ROR also. It’ll be interesting to watch how it develops
