Trading for Chris Tanev because Elliotte Friedman said so on HNIC

But just to clarify, Vegas doesn’t actually get Ottawas forfeited first, right?</div></div>
That's right.
Much like Arizona in 2021, Ottawa loses their own 1st round pick for either 2024, 2025 or 2026.
Vegas doesn't receive anything.
I only picked Vegas here because there's no better option in AGM.

Another idea
MTL would be looking for a younger and higher upside asset for Monahan, who is their biggest trade chip this season.
The ask is likely around a 1st round pick value or equivalent prospect or young player. Olofsson and Comrie aren't what MTL is looking for.

Anderson for Huberdeau straight up would be a bad trade adding a first would be horrendous.

Cue the blaming of Habs fans - instead of players who suck.

Aw, c'mon, you can't tell me Habs fans have bad feelings for him after his run in Montreal! 28 goals in the bubble season, 14 points in the run to the Cup final, and when things fell apart you were able to cash him in for a package featuring Emil Heineman and a 1st! I'd think it'd be good memories all around with him.

Montreal only takes that deal if there is a condition where the pick pugrades to a 2023 1st if the Avs making it out of the first round and Monahan plays at least 50% of the Avs remaining games

Yes. Its cap circumvention. Pretty sure the buyout rule has been changed as well. I am 100% sure retention isn't allowed for 1 Callender year; but not sure about the buyout thing

Oh, I can see some GM possibly trading for him, but it isn't going to be for a 1st and top prospect like so many Montreal fans believe it will be. It will be something that makes sense with Montreal taking back bad contracts or something to that affect.

ANDERSON TO WSH DADONOV MONAHAN TO NYR HOFFMAN TO WPG DROUIN TO NJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>-Depends how the Caps feel going forward but I think I would take this deal. Anderson and Mantha are very similar players, and while most teams might not love the term on Anderson, the Caps have a ton of contracts falling off over the next 2-3 years and will have plenty of room to play with under the cap. Getting the 1st with him in 2025, when Ovechkin is probably getting ready to move on to the next phase of his career, is exactly what I'd want as a Caps fan. I think Montreal passes on this if the reports of their Anderson demands are true, but personally? I think it makes sense for them - neither Anderson nor Mantha is going to be part of whatever the next contending Habs team will be, so might as well ditch that cap hit sooner than later.
-Rangers pass. Dadonov is dead weight, Monahan doesn't fill a need for them (C is probably their strongest position: Mika - Trocheck - Chytil - Goodrow), and while the younger players & picks are certainly interesting, I don't see them moving on from Laf yet.
-Doesn't make sense for Winnipeg, especially without retention. Hoffman has rebuilt *some* value this year but I just don't see Winnipeg taking him at full freight. I'd hang on to him through the summer (when all of your retention slots you've used here will open back up) and retain him down to $2.25M and send him out to a contender looking for a PP specialist - I honestly think he'll bring back positive value in that type of situation, if he stays healthy and keeps up his level of play.
-Stop me if you've heard this one before: Drouin is hurt and out of the lineup. I can't see any team giving positive value to a guy that is this unreliable. I think the only way you get back any sort of positive return on Drouin would be by paying a 3rd team to retain him down to $1.375M - i.e., the Habs send a 4th & Drouin 50% retained to Team A, Team A sends Drouin with the extra 25% retention to Team B, Team B sends a 3rd to Montreal to get Drouin at a very cheap hit.</div></div>
And with all of that said, probably one of the most reasonable Montreal acgm teams I've seen

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Suggestions709</b></div><div>No doubt a great deal depends on when Monahan returns, what he does and whether he’s still healthy at the deadline.
To spin the conversation a little, do you think they add a 2C before the deadline?</div></div>
I wouldn't say it's impossible and there are always surprises but I do think it's highly unlikely. A "true" 2C - someone like Horvat - is going to cost way too much and is likely to be a rental which the Avs simply will not pay the price for. To me, one of the best ideas floated is Henrique; he'd be worth giving up that 2024 first if the Ducks retained. The second-best option is probably Toews but I doubt that works out. If I had to lay odds on the Avs picking up someone that could plug-and-play at 2C, I'd say it's 85/15 that it doesn't happen.

Last year, Coga16 and many other Avs fans said Lehkonen was a 3rd liner worth at most a 3rd round Pick. Since then, i believe all Avs fans know nothing about players value.
