TDL with NCAA signings

Created by: Romanov4Norris
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2023
Published: Feb. 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Extensions:
Caufield: 78750000. Same as Suzuki. Given recent signings I think this is reasonable and he’d probably accept
Monahan: 3.5 million. While he hasn’t played much in a habs jersey, while he has played he’s been great. I think he’d take a low amount given his injury history. This is more to try again to get better value for him at next years deadline

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2023 1st round pick (CGY)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
The third can be switched out to a B level prospect.
CGY
  1. Anderson, Josh
Additional Details:
While Andy obviously isn't worth this much old hockey men love big power forwards so I doubt he would get any less then this.
2.
MTL
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  2. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Puju would be a good fit for the habs. It seems he has negative value at the moment and rumour is he’ll be put on waivers. While he doesn’t put up points he’s a amazing defensive player who would be a good fit with Suzuki and Caufield
EDM
  1. Edmundson, Joel
  2. 2023 4th round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Once again Eddy isn’t worth this but this is his perceived market value. If Chariot could get more then this I think this is possible

Ain't no way Calgary trades a 1st + for Anderson without salary retention

We have been told the price for Anderson is a 1st plus for over a year. Wonder why he is still in Montreal?

Calgary a team with negative cap space next season is not paying a 1st for a 5.5M 3rd liner

The Flames literally cannot afford Josh Anderson's deal on their 2023-24 cap. They have $1.3M in cap space available on next year's team, meaning they'd have to clear $4.2M just to be cap-compliant - the equivalent of just making Tyler Toffoli disappear.

Tyler Toffoli's scored 20+ goals the past 3 seasons and is sitting at 19 in 51 GP this year - so barring injury, he's a lock to make it 4 in a row. Josh Anderson hasn't broken 20 goals since 2018-19. Would *you* pay a 1st+ for Anderson and then force yourself to sell a guy like Toffoli for pennies on the dollar?

I would rather have Anderson without shoulders than Toffoli tbh 😆

Aw, c'mon, you can't tell me Habs fans have bad feelings for him after his run in Montreal! 28 goals in the bubble season, 14 points in the run to the Cup final, and when things fell apart you were able to cash him in for a package featuring Emil Heineman and a 1st! I'd think it'd be good memories all around with him.

Never liked Toffoli in MTL … nothing against the guy, he just couldn’t skate at all and was more than dog**** during the Semi finale and finale (I know he was injured but still)

Why is Chychrun still in Arizona? Not comparing players, but both have been available for over a year.

If i remember correctly, it also took over a year for the Avs to trade Duchene.

I think you're underestimating the 200 hockey men that would sell their moms for a 20-goal power forward that can skate

Some of these detractors arguments are nothing but false equivalencies to deny reality of a player that is in hot demand according to every source worth their salt.

His argument is the equivalent of saying how come you know the Earth isnt flat when 2,000 people in some village without running water say so.

OK, go look at Calgary's salary cap situation for next season then and tell me where exactly they would fit Anderson without any retention. Show me a 23 man roster for next year's Flames team where they're not forced to trade or dump any contracts to fit Josh Anderson into their top 6. I'll wait.

Who cares. The Isles also had too many centres to trade for Horvat yet they did! You make it work. The point being that Anderson confirmed price is a 1st and an A prospect. Believe it or not, there are GMs out there that think in the right environment he's a premier force in the top 6. Lebrun has said this over and over!

I don't care what the rest of the league does. You responding to a Flames fan who wouldn't give up that 1st for Anderson without retention by saying "200 hockey men would sell their moms [for him]" just shows that you fundamentally misunderstand the situation.

There's a major difference between an Islanders team with plenty of available cap space to add Horvat and figure out the lineup around that move, versus a team with $1.3M in cap space for next year giving up a 1st for a player making $5.5M. But hey, if you want to go around calling apples oranges, I can't stop you from making yourself look like you have no idea what you're talking about.
