Where do they go now
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Classic_Devil</b></div><div>The Devils' defense is going to be:
LHD: Siegenthaler, Bahl, L. Hughes, Smith
RHD: Hamilton, Marino, Miller, <strong>Nemec</strong>
And we're going to trade for a RHD who's going to cost us $4M to be a moderate upgrade on our <em>third pairing</em> for the next two years? Are you nuts?</div></div>
If you're good with numbers you'll see that a 2.3 M$ retention is here making him a 2.38M$ player, good job on reading! Also he's far better than both Smith and Miller while, for the best of the player, Nemec would be much better playing as a number 1 in the AHL all year than a third pairing role in the NHL.

Correction: he’s playing on the top pairing of an awful team while he should be playing on a second or third pair like he did with TBL

Depending on how training camp goes with regard to Laine, I could see Roslovic for Gryz working for both sides. The cap hits are nearly identical, Roslovic would get the opportunity to play center which he prefers (which is starting to look unlikely in Columbus with Fantilli on board and if Laine can in fact play center). Jackets need a stable 3LD who can play higher if Werenski gets hurt again who doesn't have term that will block the prospects next season.

A lot of Ducks fans would be happy to have Forbort at the cost of like a 4th or 5th round pick. The Bruins cap situation doesn't give them a lot of leverage in a Forbort trade.
Henrique 50% retained should get a 2nd round pick plus a decent but not great prospect. That makes it really hard for the Bruins because they already traded both 2nd's from 2024 and 2025. I don't see a pick in 2026 having great appeal.

I agree the trade is missing assets from Boston but, for 1yr, considering D take more time to develop I wouldn't say Forbort would be blocking anybody, Fowler went straight to the NHL but, it won't hurt any prospects to play a season in the AHL

I'm going to ignore the other trades.
You'd need to give more up for Henrique + retention IMO but, I think he'd be a good fit in Boston and I haven't really seen people suggest him before, congrats for thinking outside the box!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Taz</b></div><div>You better trade Harris while he has value than wait him to get passed in the lineup. When he'll play 15 games a year, his value will drops.
Xhekaj can hold that 3rd pair spot until the others developp. And when Hutson or other will be closer, the 3rd pair spot playing limited minutes is good for development too.</div></div>
I hope they play Harris on the PP this season and ship him at the TDL. His contract is awesome and he's RFA at the end of 2024. If he shows himself to be a 3 or 4 spot player, he's gonna bring in a hefty return.

I don’t care when YOU think the others will be NHL ready, maybe they’ll take 2 years, maybe more. Maybe they’ll never make it. But until someone pushes him out of the line up, he stays IMO</div></div>
So then you plan to trade Xhekaj after drafting his brother :P? Or maybe you want to bench him even though he put up better offensive stats, hits more, hits harder, stands up for his teammates?

Dont argue about cap space value. According to genius over here. Cap space is an easy fix that is why no one is even talking about cap space being an issue this offseason or next..i mean..nobody is talking about that:shakehead

Van would pass. I believe they could have claimed Kovacevic and did not. If there were a center instead of Hoffman, that would make more sense for Van.

Then lose millions in cap space next year. You speak it like there is no downside to a buyout
Murray won’t be picked up and Mtl can’t buyout him out this year. The window was missed without an arb case.
This trade ain’t it. Keep Dvo as he’s injured the 1st month and recoup asset at the TDL

Perfect contracts hierarchy team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nathaniel</b></div><div>Kind of lame to have ELCs on here. Nylander and Draisaitl both play way above their pay grades though</div></div>
Not really. Having one ELC in your top 6 isn't egregious.
If you don't, you likely have 1 or 2 in your bottom 6.
You have to fit in some development at the NHL level to remain competitive year over year.
I don't think the specific players are the point here. It's showing how to allocate available cap space to be efficient and competitive with your roster. Like not having a $5M player in the bottom 6 or two $9M defensemen.

Awesome deal.
I think this AGM also shows just how much money the habs have to work with. Thats a full roster and only rhp and ylonen are noteworthy rfas (neither of whom will cost much.
With edmundson likely gone they will have a lot of dead contract money to throw around

Who says no
Probably both.
For Los Angeles, they already have a lot of good young forwards, so the upgrade from Hughes to Farrell probably doesn't mean much. Plus, Brandt is an elite RHD prospect who should allow a smooth transition behind Doughty, at 33.
For Montreal, Guhle is already a very valuable piece of their young core, and with Barron and Mailloux as offensive defenseman on the right side, adding Brandt to the mix could be "too much of the same flavor" for them.
