Ah well, alas. You got me. Excellent debate brother. You made some fantaStic points. I’ll be sure to remember when Tampa rolls into the season with 8/21 players making under 1M. I shall, of course, be sure not to do simple math next time and just listen to fans when they say “we don’t have to get rid of this player”, much like Minnesota, Calgary, Chicago, San Jose and Vegas fans in recent seasons. Being told that we are wrong by these fans, and we were tragically wrong ever time about the cost of Fiala, Fleury, and Neier, has never once backfired.
I will also look into the “algorithm” you said is the basis of this trade.

Whatever algorithm the reporter likely used as part of their analysis and calculation of supposed trade value. The analysts you listed and have cited from poorly, have very rarely been right about supposed moves from Tampa, since very little accurate info leaks from Tampa before any deal is basically done. Perhaps if you had done the step of seeing what Tampa actually would want in a trade, a reasonable offer could have been made, but that's quite seldom the case from N.J..fans on here with Tampa trades involving Colton.</div></div>
They didn’t use an algorithm lmfaooooo
Idc what tampas needs are in a cap squeeze trade.

Write off the opinion based on an “algorithm” (that doesn’t actually exist). Nothing like showing you have absolutely no clue what you’re talking about huh?

Restore the Shore and robbinsville
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTBF81</b></div><div>It is subpar because it is not what Tampa needs.i'm not sure how many times this can.be said on here by ppl who know Tampa's situation well. Tampa could care less about a later 2nd round pick. If they are going to move a player that is slotted to be a top 6 winger for many years to come, they will need to get back players of value that help them now. A cost controlled 3LD and bottom 6 F is what they would value.
Since they have no need to move him, the acquiring team can meet their price or the trade just doesn't happen. Brisebois should care less what some algorithm says, as he is not in a position to.toss Colton for what another team thinks.is fair,.but what Tampa actually wants(or close to it).
There's really nothing else left to discuss, as I and many Tampa fans.have already made this same position clear on literally dozens of Colton to.N.J threads where N.J..fans make a great offer for them, while not taking into account what Tampa would want and thinking Tampa has little recourse, until once again corrected by Tampa fans.</div></div>
Nothing says “I know the reality of my NHL team more than you” more than telling people your team will happily roll into an NHL season with 21 skaters on the roster
Also what algorithm?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTBF81</b></div><div>It is if the acquiring team actually considered Tampa's position and what they would be looking for if Colton was on the table. No one in Tampa cares what one reporter said, Tampa never accepts that offer. There have been at least 4 or 5 offers from other teams on here that beat that easily. More than a couple of teams would be interested, and a 2nd round pick is quickly rejected.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>While the analytics may say that a 2nd rounder is a good return for Colton, this has little to do with the reality of building an actual roster. Trading Colton for a pick makes Tampa a weaker team headed into next season. They are in full blown "win now" mode. This has been discussed at nauseam on this site, but Tampa is going to make the deal that brings them the best possible NHL roster player(s) over a pick 10 times out of 10. Regardless of what Shatna's algorithms may say.</div></div>
This is a stunning misunderstanding of what Shayna does lmfao
Man every time a team needs to dump cap on this site, the home team fans always think they’ll be able to address their team needs in the process and it just never happens

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTBF81</b></div><div>It's a very easy decline from Tampa. A 2nd round pick both does nothing for Tampa now, and it isn't enough anyway. It's great that a writer for the Athletic believes he may be worth something, and when they are an actual GM dealing with Tampa, Tampa fans might care. Tampa is very likely not trading Colton anyway, but if they were to, it would be for the deal they want, not accepting a mediocre return. If N.J. wants him, Tampa would consider it for Bahl+either Boqvist or McLeod, in exchange for Colton+Fleury+mid round pick/B prospect. If Bahl isn't available, Tampa moves on to.another team.</div></div>
Lmk how that goes :)

I mean yeah. Unless Kakko has some spectacularly rare breakout like Thompson, then yes he is a bust. Thompson breakout is an anomaly. Basically a miracle that hardly ever happens. He was also not a 2nd overall either so expectations were lower to begin with.

Some good news for Calgary
It's for the best.
Should have happened last year when Gaudreau left. Now they're forced into a rebuild. Not a bad thing.
If they kept all of these guys, when that new arena opens in 4-5 years, they'd have an old, slow and likely bad team. This at least gives them a shot at a good, young team when that billion dollar building opens.

The rangers at the very least SHOULD value KK that way. It’s hard to predict a front office that James Dolan is influencing though. Couple years ago when he was focusing more on ruining the Knicks, and I would have a lot more faith in their value assessments lol</div></div>
I definitely agree. Dolan is probably the main reason why they sped up the rebuild instead of taking the correct course like the devils did

I’m actually very high on him, and in a vaccum, or just with NY in a slightly better cap situation, I would absolutely give up more. Him and Jack Hughes (ironically) could be a dominant pair on a line.
Just can’t justify it here when those assets are going to be used to get out of the Goodrow contract, and get through this year before the cap increases</div></div>
A goodrow buy-out doesn’t affect the cap next year and the following year. It hurts 3 years down the road and by then Panarin and Trouba will be near the end of their contracts, on top of the cap suppose to be going up a lot more
Plus I think the rangers would value their only top 6 RW over a lot of other positions on the roster
