How are they in a squeeze? They have 11.2 Million to sign Dobson, Romanov, and Bellows? Unless Dobson is signing an 8x8 deal the Islanders are fine.

Why are the Islanders the ones giving up the 2nd? They need more offense not less. Stanley has played almost 100 games and only put up 17 points. Not to mention he is a penalty machine. The Islanders will just put out Robin Salo who might not be as good defensively but he will put up more points.

Maybe too much term but the AAV is spot on. Yes, he is going to be a very good RD for the Islanders for many years but also has only put up one really good season.

This makes total sense but Canuck fans need to stop thinking they will get a 1st rounder in a deep draft and a 22-year-old RD who is coming off a career year. (While carrying around 45-year-old Chara)

Would that give the Islanders cap space? Would Kylington command less than 4.2 Mill? Islanders also just acquired Romanov.

Trading for Girard A Re-Tool
Hilarious that you say Hoffman is a cap dump and then proceed to get a 3rd for him. Hoffman at this point wouldn't even make the Islanders NHL roster let alone play with Barzal. He put up his career-worst numbers, is 32, and makes 4.5 AAV for the next 2 years.

JG Pageau is in no way an overpay. He plays in all situations, face off specialists, PKs, PP. He is 29 with 4 years left on his contract the Islanders are paying him through his prime, he will be 33 at the end. JG between Rantanen and Lehkonen would deadly.

Ken Hollands pocket trick
I would love for the Islanders to do this but they won't. Matt Martin is untouchable in the sense that Lou would never trade him in a small/silly trade like this even though the Islanders would gain a little cap relief and would get a younger player and a pick, even if it is 6th.

I don't see them trading for Girard. Its going to be Pelech-Pulock, Romanov-Dobson, Salo-Mayfield. 7th D will be Aho when they need a LD and Hutton when they need a RD. If you could get rid of Bailey for free sure but the Rangers had to pay 2 2nds to get rid of Nemeth so I think it will cost the Islanders something to move him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Alfie11</b></div><div>ottawa isn't a dumping ground. not that that's enough to dump 2 bad contracts</div></div>
Is Bailey's contract really that bad? Would have been 4th on the Sens in points, 4th in assists, and 6th in goals. He is only owed 3.5 Mill in real money on his 5 mill cap hit for each of the next two years. Yes, Bailey is getting older and his production has diminished but not as much as people think. He gets a bad reputation because he has been an Islander for 14 seasons and the fans are kinda tired of his game. He would still be a productive low-end 2nd liner or average 3rd liner.
Panik can be buried and only 250k of his salary would count against the cap.
So essentially the Islanders would pay a 3rd to get rid of Bailey.

Balancing optimism with realism
I would be more inclined to sign Claude Giroux to a 2 or 3-year deal and save 2/3 mill. I love Forsberg but realistically he ain't coming here and to a 7-year x 8.5 Mill deal and I can just see it turn sour toward the end.
Giroux still put up 65 points last season (21 g 44 A) and I feel like that is the type of move Lou makes.

I don't think the price for Chychrun is that steep. I think Arizona could get something like Beau, this year 2nd, Holmstrom, and another pick (2nd/3rd) or B prospect
