Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>Agreed. That's why all I want to see out of Murph for the rest of the summer is to pick up a veteran D on the cheap. This year should be about letting this kids make this their team and build toward the future. We can a big swing when Getzlaf's contract is up. (and after the expansion draft happens)</div></div>
Luckily the Penguins have a summer deal for you! For a limited time, you can acquire yourself a Jack Johnson of the low price of $FREE.99! All it will take is your soul. Don't let this summer deal pass you by!

Faulk to ANA
I think its a good trade for both teams. Carolina gets a veteran center and we get a young veteran RD.
I dont like the idea of Sam Steel taking second line duties quite yet though. I'd let shore or grant take that on for now and let Steel play 3rd for a bit longer and see if he can make the transition over the season.

Zegras lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>I'd be very surprised if he played more than one year at BU. I think one year at BU, one year in San Diego and then he gets his feet wet after Getzy retires.</div></div>
Agreed. My point was that this trade is premature, and in fact may never be a good idea for the Ducks. Meanwhile, why are we stiffing Zegras $25,000 x 3 if we think he can play in the NHL in September?

Oh Sharks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>What's the logic behind trading away Henrique for a more expensive and much older Marleau just to plug him in as the fourth-line center? I mean I guess you can plug him in anywhere between 2-4 but would just keeping Rico in that spot not be preferable? It's not like we need ALL of those second round picks that badly. And I think San Jose matches that pretty easily. It's not like 22 year old forwards who put up over 50 points grow on trees. There has only been one case of an offer sheet that wasn't matched and the return was way more than just a second. There's a reason those never work. I mean Doug Wilson has some tough decisions to make but letting one of his best players walk for a second (for a contract well-below his value) isn't one of them.</div></div>
Hey, I was gonna say all that, right down to the offer-sheet stuff.

Ducks Wishful Thinking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>I don't disagree. I guess I just struggle to understand why the season Rico just had changes his potential value considering it was right on par with how he's performed in the past. For a team looking for a solid 2-3 center you can do a lot worse than Rico. But I'm with you that the Canes probably would want more than him and Ritchie for Hamilton.</div></div>
I don't know, I guess I was just a bit down on him because of how the season went. He is who he is, but I figured he'd step up a bit more when the opportunity to put up more offense was there.
You're right though. I'm quite happy to have him as our 2nd/3rd line C, especially since he should help ease Steel in.

Going for PK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>If Nash is game I'd make that deal. I fear they won't be crazy about Mahura which is too bad because I think he has a lot of potential. Not crazy about Grant filling in for Rico. I think we'd be better off shifting Shore to the middle and maybe giving Comtois a shot in his place on the left side. Hate to see Rico go but it might be the only way could fit someone like Subban in the lineup. I'm on board.</div></div>
I'm a huge fan of Rico honestly. I still think he could the next captain and is critical to our team. But he is still the one that makes sense, especially if nashville doesnt manage to sign Duchene. I think Mahura is a piece they can try out and move later if needed. I think they would be more interested in Larsson, but I don't see the ducks giving up their best D prospect for a 30 y/o. And I agree, the line up would change and possibly see one of the kids or shore promote to 2nd C over time.

Ideal 2019-2020 Ducks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div> Yes, I understand Ristolainen is a young d-man but the price for him creates more holes than it fills. If he were a truly transcendent player and we had assurances that we'd have him for more than three years, okay pull the trigger. But I just don't think he's worth it, not with the way this team is heading.</div></div>
I'll agree to disagree with you here, but definitely understand the hesitation in dealing away Comtois. I'm confident that Ristolainen will be fantastic if he can ever make it out of Buffalo, but people said the same for Tyler Myers, so oh well. Can't fault you at all here.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div> For a rebuilding team it just seems crazy to me to give up on these players when we should be focusing and adding more young players around them. </div></div>
I think there's a goldilocks to this; you can't have too many young guys and you can't have too many old guys. Obviously we need to get younger, so there's no argument from me about that. However, there needs to be established vets in place, otherwise the young guys get baptized by fire (and look how that's gone for Edmonton/Arizona/Buffalo the past 5 or so years). It doesn't necessarily have to be Ristolainen, but I think we should also be looking for another young, established player to add to the core and take pressure off the prospects coming up to the show.

DUCKS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>All three of those trades make the Ducks worse. We don't need to get rid of Kesler so badly that we'd have to trade away a first rounder, nor would that be worth it to Vancouver to carry that cap hit for six years. And Vancouver is just going to give us Tanev and Markstrom on top of that? Yikes.
I keep seeing so many trades with Shore and/or Rowney for a low-level draft pick. Why? These two are quality, value players. I mean if we HAVE to move them, which we don't, we better get better value for them. Rowney was one of the few bright spots this season. Shore was solid too. Good PKer, provided decent offense and makes less than 3 mil.
And I wouldn't trade Terry for Fox straight up, especially without a contract, let alone with Sherwood thrown in. And who's to say he'd even sign here? He's clearly a player who wants to choose where he goes and we are never a team that these players want to sign with.</div></div>
Agree 100%. With all the new additions of rookies on ELCs, the Ducks aren't in a cap crunch and don't need to dump Kesler, especially if it will cost them that much. Devin Shore is a consistent, versatile 30 point player, and could earn a 3rd by himself at the trade deadline. Giving him up for a full season with an RFA expiry should command more than that. And lastly, DO NOT TOUCH TERRY! Especially in this case. I know Fox is a highly touted prospect, but he's never played in the NHL, whereas Terry has shown real promise and looks to be a cornerstone of the rebuild.

Tweaks and Tinkering
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>I think Myers would be a great addition but that's way too low a number on him, by like 3 mil. He's for sure not going to take a pay cut, especially to come to the Ducks. And if Kesler some how is fit enough to play he won't be bought out I think. That's a hell of a cap burden for six years but a team that rarely takes that option. But I think it's safe to assume him and Eaves will be on IR for the rest of their careers, Eaves for sure so that could give this team more cap room to sign someone like Myers to a realistic contract. But as I've made the point in other threads, that would be a huge departure from how Murray operates in the summer.
As for Ritchie, he drives me crazy a lot of the time but we shouldn't just be giving away a young player who can put up a decent amount of points while making peanuts the next two years. His contract might the best Murray and McNab have squeezed out of a player yet and that's saying something.
I'm also not comfortable running with Boyle as our backup. He had a good stretch of games but that's a big risk considering Gibson's injury history. I'd rather invest in a quality backup again.</div></div>
I agree for the most part. My thoughts with Myers is adding other incentives like games played or performance bonuses. On top of that, I wanted to factor in contract time. I think getting 4.5 x 5 vs maybe 6.5 x 3 makes sense. He's 29 now, so figuring he'll be under contract till 34 isn't bad for him. But I can definitely see him signing 6 x 5 which to me is a bit overpaid.
As far as Kesler goes, it's really muddy because how much comes in to play. If he can play, but won't play as well as he can like he as this season then he's going to. He won't go on LTIR without his consent and medical staff clearing it. So a buyout is possible but 100% not ideal. Eaves is a given on LTIR or buried. He won't see the NHL again either way. And Murray will have to make a lot of departures this year from his norm to make this team work. His bargain signings of guys like Street, Rowney, Gibbons, etc cant keep going if the youth is ready to move up.
Ritchie has always been a sore spot for me. He's never going to be a top 6 guy and really fits a role spot. His contract is definitely the silver lining there, but I think at some point you have to move on from him while he as value. BM gets impatient with prospects and role players who eventually will want more money, and Ritchie is comparable to Maroon and Belesky in a lot of ways. I think the part I really start to think about is, who are the people I have to play and who do I play Ritchie over? Getz, Perry, Rakell, Henrique, Silf, Kase, Steel, Jones, Terry, Sprong are all players I want to see play every possible game. You have Shore, Rowney, Ritchie plus guys like Comtois, Lundestrom, Roy, Kopacka, etc all wanting to make the jump too. At a certain point, people have to go. Perry would be a great guy to move but it won't happen. Ritchie and Shore are the guys who make sense, but Ritchie has the return.
And same, but honestly back up goalies are to speculate on who wants to go where. Miller may stay, but if not the goalie market is saturated this off season. Lehner, Talbot, Elliot, Mrazek are just a few UFAs. Throw any of those guys in there at 2 mil or less.
Definitely appreciate the feedback and love the perspective.

My Take on 2019-2020 Ducks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>I'm a Ducks fan and I'm totally with you. We have a lot of promising, young, offensive talent but as long as Getzlaf and Perry are still on this team, we're going to be stagnant at best. They make up a huge chunk on the salary cap and their play is in total decline (well Perry's more than Getzlaf's but Getz's days as PPG player are over). And the worst part is we really can't do anything about it. They both have full NMC and have been icons on this team for over a decade. I fear we're going to take a couple more years like this one before we dig ourselves out. Unless our next coach is the next Jon Cooper or we miraculously win the first or second pick.</div></div>
I appreciate your unbiased opinion dude +1.
