Away from Markstrom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>So I wanted to give Markstrom a fair shake so I looked up his WAR 5v5 for the last 11 years. You won't like it.
2023: 1.83
2022: -1.15
2021: 1.73
2020: -0.80
2019: 0.29
2018: -0.18
2017: -0.25
2016: 0.25
2015: 0.30
2014: -0.19
2013: -1.58
Total WAR 5v5 from 2013 to 2023: 0.25
So I overestimated how good he was...</div></div>
That’s a very useless stat.

Away from Markstrom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>Markstrom has had a better career than who? Jarry?
5v5 WAR for the last 4 years and ranking among goalies with 30+ games (20 for this year and the shortened season)
Jarry:
2023: 2.29 (94th%)
2022: 0 (37th%)
2021: 0.67 (59th)
2020: -0.20 (49th%)
Total: 2.76
Markstrom:
2023: 1.83 (84th%)
2022: -1.20 (21st%)
2021: 1.76 (75th%)
2020: -0.80 (36th%)
Total: 1.59
They aren't far off but Jarry has been better.
Also it is rare for a goalie to play at a high level so late in their career. Quick and Fleury are exceptions, not the rule.</div></div>
If you ignore what Markstrom in Vancouver you can paint that picture. If Jarry continues to look like he has this season he will be the better goalie. Time is on his side but you cherry picked some nice data.

The Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JoeROFLCOPTER</b></div><div>That can be done without paying a 2nd to dump lol.</div></div>
You save an additional two million up front and don’t have 3 more years of buyouts. If Detroit wasn’t full of prospects that 2nd would be important, but with one of the deepest prospect polls and your team moving into contention, cap space is much more important than a draft pick.

Away from Markstrom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>The other thing I'd like to point out regarding Jarry is that there are no actual rumors that he's available, not even speculation and I'd say it's a real long-shot that he'd get moved in the next year.
This all stems from an article a Pens' hockey writer wrote simply musing that the Pens should consider moving Jarry. That's it, so there's no real substance to this.</div></div>
Jarry being moved would scream rebuild and teams just don’t rebuild often now. Also, I see no reason for Pittsburgh to abandon Crosby just yet even though I’m sure they’ll move Guentzel.

Away from Markstrom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Jarry is 28 Markstrom is 34</div></div>
Understandable but for one why would Pittsburgh trade him considering he’s playing well and was just resigned? Two, Markstrom has had a better career with the exception of last year’s mess. As Quick has shown us a goalie can be pushing 40 and still play at a high level.

To save money so you can pay Raymond and Seider. Then you have to give a pay rise to Kane and Sprong if you keep him.
