The Deadline

Created by: The_Lanny
Team: 2023-24 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2024
Published: Feb. 25, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
You can rebuild and stay competitive. That is the approach here, to “rebuild” without using that word since owners hate it while still having a team that can win. The forward group is getting young and the goals will be coming soon. Once Wolf is ready this team will be right back in the playoffs.

Why would you want to eat that buyout for 4 more years?

To save money so you can pay Raymond and Seider. Then you have to give a pay rise to Kane and Sprong if you keep him.

I like Greer but not for a 3rd and he’s injured.

Maybe for a 6th, but I just don’t think he moves the needle other than as a 13th forward better than Lemeiux.

Not going to pay to dump cap until we know who is all coming back. I can see Sprong pricing himself out of Detroit.

You save an additional two million up front and don’t have 3 more years of buyouts. If Detroit wasn’t full of prospects that 2nd would be important, but with one of the deepest prospect polls and your team moving into contention, cap space is much more important than a draft pick.

Can make those extensions without throwing away picks.

Personal preference is to clear around $3M by calling up Berggren and trading Fabbri, though.

I'd argue you'd have to retain for that return from NJD
