Some controversial moves
Ah, there is nothing controversial here.
Controversial would be Patrik Laine for Leon Draisaitl and Edmonton's 2018 top 5 pick.

Should have accounted for future UFA status, you're 100% right there. As for Trouba, we might have to agree to disagree. I definitely overpaid Lowry looking back at this now haha.
Thanks,

Definitely agree with what you're saying! There are a lot of better options than Bollig that the Jets would consider first. I think I overpaid Lowry looking at this now too haha, thanks for the comment!

Jets can get better value with that $4.75M on Bozak and keep their draft pick. I could argue that Roslovic or Petan would make a better third line centre in the long term. I like all of the other signing values although I fear Trouba will need more to agree to stay long term.

Building in the 2018 draft
Why would we ever trade Brendan Lemieux for Chad Ruhwedel though? Also, Green & Stanley will be playing in the AHL, and where is Kulikov? Comrie will be in the AHL for at least another year, plus signing Stastny for 5 years for that money doesn't make any cap sense. Good try.

Even if Mantha gets a bridge deal? I figured it would be best for both parties that Mantha and AA get bridge deals. I think signing Larkin long term is worth doing. I think we have a good idea of what kind of player he is and is going to be.

Totally agree Larkin probably gets in the neighborhood of 8 years around $6.5 million per Mantha a 2 year bridge maybe in the $4 million per range and AA 2 year bridge around $2.5 million to $3 million per give or take.

So Tatar got from Vegas a 2018 1st round pick+2019 2nd round pick+2021 3rd round pick that's far more then we can dream of, Sucks that we didn't move Green for a 1st but oh well. What can you do.

Lemieux is a prospect and higher end one, Matthias has been a scratch player and is only included to dump cap. His contracts done at the end of the year. Armia is super underrated and is caught behind the talent in Winnipeg. With the rangers in a fire sale he would probably get a better shot at showcasing his talents in a higher role.
Really when I break it down. It’s Armia, Lemieux and a 1st for zucccarello. The 5th is to take Matthias as a cap dump.

Hopefully not, they seem like the one team that would take a goalie off our hands.

Thread:
Detroit Red Wings; a rebuilding team with cap / contract issues, possible solutions?
Many put Detroit at the bottom of the standings when predicting this upcoming season. And for teams trending downwards, "rebuilding" is a term used quite often. In DET case, rebuilding is definitely is something we've seen happening with the team over the past couple seasons. The issue however is all of the Wings long term contracts that their veteran players own. It's really hindering this rebuild.
Frans Neilsen, 33 years old, $5.25mil cap hit for another 5 years
Justin Abdelkader, 30 years old, $4.25mil cap hit for another 6 years
Darren Helm, 30 years old, $3.85mil cap hit for another 3 years
Jonathan Ericsson, 33 years old, $4.25 cap hit for another 3 years
Tevor Daley, 33 years old, $3.16mil for another 3 years
Not counting the contracts still left to vets like Zetterberg (36yo, $6mil X4), Franzen (37yo, $4mil X 3) <- he's on IR but still costing the team $$$, and Kronwall (36yo, $4.75 X 2).
While most of these vets a still good NHLers, their contracts aren't exactly movable ones.
Detroit does have a solid prospect pool building up (Larkin, Mantha, Frk, Rasmussen, Cholowski to name a few) but when it gets to the point that they can't even sign their guys to bridge deals (see A.Athanasiou), somethings gotta give...
Usually moving bad contracts requires giving up picks or young assets, but for a rebuilding team this isn't really an option.
Anyone have any thought s on how to fix Detroit's messy situation?
