I have found no article by him saying that. He actually mostly states the Pens are would be a destination for MAx Domi and in an interview on august 31st he said the Pens acquiring Kapanen shows they are still in win now mode.....

I don't see how honka helps or gets into the top 6 off the bat when he couldn't cut it in Dallas and they couldn't give him away. Plus i don't think he'd want to come back to North America when he is playing 20 plus min in Finland. He won't get that on any NHL team.
Haula wouldn't be a bad 3rd line center but he has durability issues. Of course the Bleuger line is really our shutdown line and HAula would add some offense over keeping Bjugstad

And you even stated Letang is better defesnively after saying LEtang makes Carlson look like Lidtstrom. So you even contradict yourself. Stick to Caps boards. Maybe they love the nonsense you say.

Staying competitive
If Murray is making more than 4.25 mil I don't see a situation where both of them are in a Pens uniform next season. Even with the Current numbers you have one of them will need to go especially before the expansion draft. The Pens aren't built to put a lot of money into goalies.
I think CRaig smith could be a good addition but don't see how he has earned a raise over his current contract

M real question about this one is in what world does Sheary get a 4 yr 4.5 mil contract??? How can that be justified in anything that borders on reality.

Next Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yojimbo</b></div><div>Understandable.
Now to the trade. I don't like it :awesome HA!
$5.5M RFA compensation would be a 1st and a 3rd.
Fleury is Riikola/Ruhwedel level, blah.
Reimer is near cap dump level. I get the vet backup aspect, but at $3.4M it's a bad get for a team flirting with the cap ceiling. That cap hit puts him in negative value to the Pens for me.
Geekie is very interesting, but barely even top 5 forward prospects for Carolina, maybe 4th-6th forward wise. Good but not great.
3rd matches the 3rd
So, vs offer-sheet compensation, you are passing on Carolina's 1st (#20ish) for an okay prospect, a #7D and a cap dump goalie. With Rutherford's poor recent trading this wouldn't necessarily surprise me, but I would hope for more. A better prospect plus certainly retention on Reimer.</div></div>
I was looking more at Pens need the offer sheet value which lets face it isn't real value because how often are there offer sheets so the 1st and 3rd comparison is kinda out the window. Carolina probably could be squeezed for more. Definitely a higher draft pick, suzuki instead of geekie. I think Fleury would be a diamond in the rough and solid shutdown guy. But Bean is the better flashier D prospect.
I wanted to err on the side of not making it too lopsided for the Pens but probably didn't go far enough.

Next Year with Prospects
SJ isn't trading for Murray unless they can fin a taker for Martin Jones who makes 5.75mil for the next 4 years. That won't be easy the way he played.
I chuckle at Simon getting over 2 mil and having ZAR benched with simon and rodrigues in the line up.
Bjugstad in't getting a 2nd unless he come back and is ungodly good.
But at least you didn't resign Sheary

Next year
I agree with about Sheary not being worth resigning. Even though he scored against Ottawa it wasn't a great play it was a pass thrown behind sid that bounce off a defender and in. He was largely ineffective and will continue to be. He doesn't kill penalties and wasn't even out there on the second PP most of the time.
I think it is a big leap to think that JPO will be ready for a regular NHL role or that Stephen Johns is an upgrade. He just came back after missing 22 months with post concussion syndrome and bad post traumatic headaches. seems a big risk.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jimmmyg</b></div><div>I agree with your logic on the goalie tandem, and Jarry might be the cheaper option moving forward. I just don't really know if Murray/Jarry would be the definitive selection for Seattle, but it would make sense to not take a chance. They can get a much better player for Murray though. I like Haydn Fleury, always have. The value of the Carolina package isn't much better than getting another year of Murray and losing him for nothing though. And I would 100% rather have Bjugstad for another year than Kyle Turris for 4 years. I love your contracts here though</div></div>
Yeah I thought about getting a better player but also didn't want to over inflate Murray's value. But don't sleep on Morgan Geekie. Complete package center with size, and is a good faceoff guy. Fleury just seemed to fit the need. Big, skates well solid defensively. Jake bean would probably have been an easy replacement as he is a better prospect. Could probably increase the draft choice as well.

Well aware it is rare but he is an RFA and I wanted to ballpark the kinda contract he'd be asking for reinforcing that he probably would have to moved as the Pens aren't really built to dedicate a lot of money to the goalie position. Especially paying both Murray and Jarry raises.

Sheary Stinks
I have no idea what GMJR was thinking getting Sheary back at the expense of Kahun. Kahun was such a better all around player. I wonder of Sid had any input on getting Sheary back.
Namestikov would have been much better add. Versatile, can play on any line and PK. Also he doesn't fall over all the time.
I would add jimmy Vesey to that list as I would have been happy if we got him instead off of buffalo.
But really the Pens got smaller and easier to push off the puck, picked up no defensive depth, and didn't improve on faceoffs. Big lose in my book.

Next years unstoppable team after these signings or moves if needed
Murray is gonna make a heck of a lot more than that and ottawa is gonna wan higher picks to take both JJ and rodrigues. That alone kinda tanks any realistic nature of this team.
Also that is spending 27 mil on Defense which is a lot. Especially when you look at the money spent on the bottom 6 forward lines.
Sheary shouldn't be brought back under any circumstance. Granlund isn't really a 3rd line center or a center in general.
Bengtsson returned to sweden unsigned by the Pens and is staying there. Idk why he was signed at all as he didn't do anything here.

Pens have more forwards but i don't think the quality went up. Kahun is better than both forwards acquired. There wasn't any defensive depth added at least not reported yet and the Pens didn't add any size(as of yet). Also no faceoff improvement
I was hoping for maybe a Marcus Foligno or if getting someone from Buf Zemgus Girgenons. Bigger forwards who can skate forecheck and hit.

He just traded Kahun
I'm not sure what you think Kahun could have asked for he is an RFA coming off an entry level deal without arbitration rights. Those usually end up team friendly.
Rodriguez could have been had for a late round pick and If Kahun was gonna want more than he's worth trade him for a pick. He's better than Sheary.
Acquiring two tiny forwards doesn't really help survive the grind of the playoffs

There aren't really an UFA centers that are decent at Faceoffs left. Grant and Thompson both went to Philly. How the Pens let that happen IDK.
Glendening in DET probably best bet signed for 2 years at 1.8mil

Stecher is always played liked that every season till they realize they need him. They've already increased his minutes recently at 17 on average playing him with Edler. Stecher is faster than Tanev and definetly Myers and he's better than Myers defensively, it's tanev, you'd have a tough time with, trying to convince canucks fans stechers better than him but he is and he's younger. Beagle being more defensive than offensive doesn't make him bad. One of our best line combinations this year has been Reese, bleuger and Tanev for their defense not offense. And motte is better defensively than the comparables I gave and he's really fast. But his offense isn't as good but he always plays 3rd or 4th line minutes so who knows. I think he could do really great with Crosby or Malkin offensively like Rust, Simon, or McCann.</div></div>
You are still giving up a top 4 d a 1st and a 2nd for cast away players.
And they are only increasing Stecher's minutes to try to trade him. He also a midget on ond fed 5"10 180lbs
