VAN Gains cap space for the offseason and We get cup winning assets
Stecther is averaging 15min a night he is not a pair defesnseman. That is on par with a 5/6 dman which is what he would be here.
Beagle is useless as a 3rd line center. Yeah he is physical and good faceoff guy but there is no offensive ability to him whatsoever and he is injury prone. With a contract for 2 more after this one no thanks.
Motte is a spare parts depth player. not bad but we have plenty of forwards like him. Wouldn't be bad for WBS though.
Basically a bunch of spare parts for Schultz and 1st and 2nd rounder is ridiculously slanted to VAN.
Bjugstad has no value right now and won't get moved till off season. Hopefully he can come back and look halfway decent so it easier to move him.

Trading Schultz and deadline deal with Buffalo
Miller would be a good add especially earlier in the season but i don't see how the Pens get him in a Bjugstad trade now that it doesn't look like he will be ready to play anytime soon. Bjugstad at this point would be a cap dump that will likely be made during the off season if he can come back and start playing somewhat decent. He has no value now unfortunately. Def not enought to take on his salary and retain on a Miller.
The KNights are trading for Martinez so i think they are done bolstering their defense. But vegas may need to move a contract to fit Martinez in. if so Cody Eakins would be a decent 3rd line center and probably come pretty cheap.
Larsson or Girgensons wouldn't be bad depth pickups since they will be cheap and add grit. Bogosian could be a very cheap depth D add since it is very obvious he wants out of Buffalo.

Two Moves
I like these moves. Delzotto decent fill in depth guy who can move the puck and has playoff experience.
I wish Bjugstad would have worked out but injuries and his salary have made him a must go. I doubt we could do a 1 for 1 for Bennet but i'd take it.
McCann and Blueger both need to attend a CRosby faceoff class to improve like he did after his first few seasons.

agreed. I wouldn't mind seeing the Pens get Jimmy Vesey either. I just think for depth you need bigger players that can skate and forecheck over undersized forwards who at one point had some scoring touch.

For depth ok. But he isn't a Bjugstad or ZAR replacement. He isn't close to the same type of player.
Get him for a 5th.
Pens should look to add a winger with like ZAR as well. a PK guy who has some physicality.

Looking At Possible Jack Johnson Replacements
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MikeyThePensFan</b></div><div>You can’t argue that his linemates are the reason why he gets so heavily outplayed. Letang gives up just over 3 high danger chances per 60 minutes. Without Johnson he spends 59% of the time in the offensive zone. With him, he is only there for 44% of the time. That’s not on Letang, that’s on Johnson. Schultz has not had a great season at all, but he only gives up 8 high danger chances per 60 minutes. Still fewer than JJ. Without JJ, he’s spent 53% of his ice time this season in the offensive zone. With him, only 30%. When you’re pinned inside your own zone for that much time you can’t expect to win. So the criticism is more than justified. What’s unjustified is apologists like you defending him when he clearly doesn’t fit the team!</div></div>
and yet the Pens are a top team and he is a plus 7. Clearly one of us doesn't know what they are talking about(hint it is you) and since every actual paid NHL analyst has said Johnson as been better and agrees the criticism is overblown i'm fine with you clinging to your irrational hate with your head in the sand. Also News flash he will be a penguin after the trade deadline. So have fun chewing on that.
I feel the coach and GM have a far better grasp of who fits the team than you.

Daily Jack Johnson trade 3-Detroit
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chigurrhh</b></div><div>Daley is indeed bad and past his best by date. So is JJ. The idea is that neither of them plays and the team actually gives Riikola a shot. Then Daley expires and we are rid of the contract for bad, aging LD.
DeSmith isn't exactly worth much at this point. He's not having the best year In WBS and his buried cap hit impacts the NHL team. A third an an AHL goalie seems pretty reasonable to get rid of three years of a bad contract. This opens up room for Riikola and POJ. 3.25 for a below average 3rd pairing guy is not ideal, especially with all the RFAs coming up.</div></div>
Desmith is needed as a security blanket as no other goalie in the system is reliable enough to play on the NHL if Murray or Jarry goes down.
I would love to see Riikola get more time but the fact that Sullivan would rather have played Ruhwedl on his off side than put Riikola in is a pretty damning indictment of what the coaching staff thinks about him.
Hopefully Riikola has some strong games coming up.

But I’ll be honest I don’t think they’ll be able to sustain the Johnson contract past this season as they have several RFAs to sign including both goalies. If they break camp next year with Johnson and Bjugstad I’ll be extremely surprised.</div></div>
I agree that they will be fine. Which is why I don't know why the other guy was whining. I'd be surprised if bjugstad lasts here past the trade deadline. he is the likely one to go to fix cap for next season. Of course I don't see the Pens having 3 goalies on NHL contracts next season either.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MikeyThePensFan</b></div><div>Whenever JJ is on the ice the team gives up so many shots and scoring chances against. He concedes 13 high danger chances per 60 minutes. How is that acceptable? You cannot be getting outplayed like this on a nightly basis and expect to keep winning games. It’s simply not sustainable. JJ does not fit the Pens & is a black hole on this team. All the other defensemen are capable of exiting the zone & moving the puck to the other side of the ice whereas JJ is not. Due to the fact that he’s always defending, that’s why he has so many blocks and hits.</div></div>
He has because he is physical and he is really the only defenseman on the team you can say that about. He also plays with defenseman who take risks. Being on the ice for a high% scoring chance against doesn't mean it resulted from his play. He is caught in a lot of Odd man breaks that do count against him as a scoring chance against but are they his fault? The Pens are one of the top teams in the east and JJ has been playing on a top pair or in the top 4 pretty much all season. If he is so inept i don't know how this would have happened with the Pens being without so many star players for long stretches. So the criticism here is far overblown and unjustified.

Well aren't you the debbie downer might want to take Pens fan off your name.
Replacing JJ isn't the problem. Getting rid of the injury bug is. When healthy JJ will be in a lesser role that is honestly better for him.
Johnson leads Pens dmen in hits and blocks, he gets blamed for so many goals against but is a plus 9, and also has the most starts in the defensive zone of any Pens defenseman.
Now JJ is no all-star far from it and you can throw some negative analytics at him and this and that but I'd rather have him than almost all the crap Dmen mentioned above with the exception of Edmundson(who isn't worth a first)

With Zucker now on the team getting AA isn't needed. There are also better depth options on D than Daley.
Yzerman may not want to sell low on AA but with the contract negotiations in the past and the fact he followd up a 30 goal season with a season that is basically a warm turd not sure how the contract talks would go any better. Arbitration may give him a # the Wings don't want to pay anyway. So will be interesting to see if the He i a redwing after the draft. I can't see them paying him much more than he makes now

I actualy think Del Zotto would be good to get just as a depth defenseman since Riikola doesn't get playing time unless all other defenseman lose a leg.
JJ has been better this year and if you really want the cap space finding a taker for Bjugstad is the better way to go.

I think Marino's injury killed any chance of trading schultz. But if getting grit was the goal this does it. Bjugstad should have his bags packed because he's as good as gone when he's healthy. No way they can keep him next season with the addition of Zucker.
I also didn't think Zucker looked as lightning fast as advertised. Maybe he'll be more comfortable by the canadiens game friday. Still was a lot to give up for him but Rutherford had a target on him for some reason.

1. Calgary says no
2. Thornton again really. This isn't the Joe thornton everyone remembers from 5,4 or even 3 years ago.The Pens say no.
3. I can't see why Nashville would take that much term back for Granlund. Pens would also say no. GRanlund can be had much cheaper if they fall out of playoffs.
4. Namestikov would be good add but Ottawa won't need Desmith unless Anderson is traded.
5. Carolina laughs and hangs up phone. They are looking for a defenseman to replace hamilton not a bottom 6 forward.

The wild dont need Desmith. Stalock is a better than average back signd very cheaply for 3 years and they have Dubnyk under contract for another year.
The only team that could have used Desmith was Toronto and now that they got Campbell Desmith isn't going anywhere unless an injury happens on a contending team.

Desmith and Larmi are also in the minors and as long as they have Desmith they are fine with Goalie depth. They also have Dustin Tokarski who has nhl experience.
Also Dallas does need scoring help. Do you read any NHL articles at all? It is their #1 need. It doesn't matter that they have a lot of money invested in their forwards. They aren't scoring. The are one of the lowest goal scoring teams. They are 27th in goals scored averaging 2.7 gpg. They are hanging on because of their defense and goaltending because they are only allowing 2.5 gpg which is 9th.
So What about all this make a defenseman their top priority.......

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MikeyThePensFan</b></div><div>Hodgson was a top 10 pick who had the potential to be a number 1 center early on his career so falling to him is no shame. All the linemates you've listed, none of them were anywhere good enough compared to the players Sheary played with. Considering he played on Buffalo putting up 45 points is pretty good. My point stands, Sheary is a trash hockey player. At least you can agree on that.</div></div>
None of his linemates were good enough because he wasn't good enough to play with any better. Hodgson was soooo talented he was out of the NHL by age 26 with 1 40+ point season. Just face it Ennis is an underachiever plain and simple. First round draft pick who couldn't stay consistent or healthy. On a deeper team Ennis disappears. Sheary was an undrafted college free agent who pretty much beat all his expectations.

Why is no one talking about Tyler Ennis
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MikeyThePensFan</b></div><div>You are incorrect. Ennis suffered a major hip injury during his 2nd last season with Buffalo that didn’t allow him to recover his form for the next 3 seasons. That’s why he got put on the fourth line with limited ice time. The talent is there but he’s injury prone. Last season he missed 2 months with a broken ankle otherwise he would’ve hit 19 goals. When he was healthy, he played on a line with Cody Hogson & Drew Stafford on the 2nd line. Not exactly top players compared to what Sheary got. Just because he’s small doesn’t mean he’s at a similar level to Sheary. Sheary is one of the worst players I’ve ever seen, if not the worst. He was lucky to win 2 Stanley Cups.</div></div>
Be careful your bias is showing and you're wrong. Ennis centered a second line with Foligno and Stafford from his return in 2011-12 season till the end of the 2013 season. Hodgson centered the top line with Vanek and Pominville in 2012-13 and was the #1 center the year after. in 2015 Ennis was the top center and played with Matt Moulson.
So he wasn't good enough to beat out Cody Hodgson.......

Why is no one talking about Tyler Ennis
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MikeyThePensFan</b></div><div>I never said the Penguins should trade for Ennis, but he is definitely a far better player than Sheary. Ennis has 3 20 goal seasons and 5 seasons in which he would've hit 45+ points before falling off a cliff in 2015-16. Sheary on the other hand has only 1 20 goal 50 point season and he had the luxury of playing with Crosby. Ennis if not for signfiicant injury impacting his play would've established himself as a full-time top 6 winger. This isn't even a close comparison.</div></div>
He has three 20 goal seasons forever ago when he was a top line player. Saying he would have hit 45+ points in 5 seasons before falling off a cliff only supports the argument that he isn't overall that good or consistent. What prevented him from breaking 45+ points those years? he had the ice time, the power play time and talent on his line. You blame injury but he wasn't injured with the Wild or the Maple leafs, he just wasn't good enough to be a regular player that made an impact. Now on Ottawa where the amount of legit NHL forwards is low he can find a way to get playing time.
To say they aren't at least equal at this point in their careers you've got to be kidding yourself. To rave about a guy who last scored 20 goals 5 years ago is just plain funny.
