Some Habs reporters (Basu and Godin in particular) have started to downplay the potential return for Monahan. I think they may have gotten wind of what other teams have been saying they'd offer for him. Expectations should probably be tempered accordingly.

Nicely outside the box. Is it possible Carolina trades Raanta after he clears waivers to save the money though? Or do you think they'd still want him as a 3rd goalie over Perets?

Habs don't need a RHD, a goalie, or a forward in a DeSmith swap either, but they're probably gonna need to take back a player in that trade anyway.

I think the framework of the deal makes sense, just not sure Fortier is enough to help a division rival out of a cap jam/goaltending issue.

No. It's pretty ridiculous to see him on the 4th line on so many Habs AGMs.

I do see those as our first two lines though</div></div>
Dvorak is recovering from offseason surgery and it is being reported that he won't be ready for training camp/start of season. Beck could get a few games while Dvorak is out.
Only thing I doubt in this lineup is Hoffman being buried in the AHL.

Just leave Monahan on IR which is probably the more plausible start of season outlook.
Then you need to move Ylonen to the 4th left side; Pezz Barron and Wideman to the scratches.</div></div>
Dvorak is injured. Currently rehabbing. Habs reporter Arpon Basu has him unlikely to be ready for start of the season.

Cap Compliant with Price
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>Now I got to challenge you on this now.
I though you were right because I read on Puckpedia:
"Buyouts can start either on June 15 or 48 hours after the Playoffs finish - whichever comes later. The buyout period wraps up on June 30th at 5pm Eastern Standard Time.
In some instances, teams may receive an additional buyout window. <strong>If a team has a player who goes to arbitration and it is either settled or awarded, the team will receive a new, 48-hour buyout window that starts 3 days after arbitration has been settled or awarded.</strong>
As part of the buyout process, the team must notify the player and place them on unconditional waivers. Once the waivers have been cleared, the buyout is complete. "
But now Philly is buying out DeAngelo without meeting that condition (Cates signed a deal before arbitration)....
So IMO, until explained otherwise, if DeAngelo can be bought out, So is Hoffman.
Thoughts?</div></div>
"settled or awarded"
Cates and Philly settled. Hence the buyout window.
But if you reeeeeeeally want to buyout Hoffman, I think the Habs could trade for someone going to arbitration, sign the player, then get that second buyout window.

Not a necessity at this point, but more a nice to have wiggle room.</div></div>
The Habs can't buyout Hoffman anymore. They don't get a second buyout window because none of their players went to arbitration. Hoffman is either on the roster, buried, or traded.

Imagine having defence and a goalie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FiveYearWin</b></div><div>What would be a better offer for toffoli
Who is a UFA at the end of the season?</div></div>
Toffoli costs a lot more than a UFA contract dump, a kinda-bad AHL goalie, and a 3rd round pick. He's on a great contract and can slot in anywhere between the 1st and 3rd lines on either wing. He's honestly one of Montreal's better assets for a trade, so the appropriate value for him is a trade offer that should hurt you a bit to type out as an Oilers fan.
In that 3rd or 4th round pick range Mathieu Perreault is probably more fitting. He's better than his cheap contract, and can play center or wing, and he's UFA this summer. He'd definitely fix your Kyle Turris problem.

Habs
I think Pleks at 50% retention is worth a 2nd round pick, and De La Rose would be lucky to net us a 6th right now. The Benn and Galchenyuk deals are probably pretty close to current value. Edmonton deal, man, I have no idea about value, but I don't think that the Oilers can add any salary for next year.

Trades by the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>epo</b></div><div>I doubt Dallas gives up Heskainen + a 1st and a 3rd for one year of Patches and a goalie prospect.</div></div>
I based Heiskanen and a 1st off of value I'd seen by some Dallas fans, but I can see where some would find it too much. Personally I find it on par with the Duchene deal. The 3rd and the prospect are for Lindgren and taking the negative-value contract of Lehtonen, which allows the Stars a bit more breathing room on the cap to further bolster their team for a playoff run.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Starsfan98</b></div><div>Way too much for one year of Patches. I hope Dallas never gives up Heiskanen, he is so good.</div></div>
It's 2 playoffs worth of Patches, not one year.
