How does that trade make any sense? Stl laughs and hangs up the phone - and this is coming from a leafs fan. Terrible trade for STL.

Something big with the Oilers
There is no way they (or anyone for that matter) will take on Lucic's deal - even at $4.5. Puljujarvi can barely crack Edmonton's lineup and they are thin on the wing. I don't see a team taking Lucic at a 50% retention by EDM - He cant keep up anymore.

Agreed. I don't love the idea of getting Hamilton. Solid offensive D-man, but not very defensive minded - which the leafs really need.

If you are trolling, bravo.....if you are being serious, Lucic and Nylander are not even on the same planet as players. Lucic can barely get from one end of the ice to another. EDM would likely trade Lucic for a bag of old pucks if they could.

Absolute Best Case Offer Sheet Scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Since Shanahan has arrived, Toronto has put more effort into player development than any other team. I'd wager that player development is even more important than scouting. Really any player that gets drafted will have a tonne of skills and talents, but unless they are taught how to maximize their potential they can just flop. Look at Edmonton as an example of the opposite. They can't develop a player to save their lives.</div></div>
Absolutely. For as much time and effort that a player puts into their career to get drafted (which is a tonne of work), they need to put even more time and effort to improve and earn their shot to crack an NHL lineup. Even the AHL is a very skilled league, and does not get the respect that it deserves. As a leaf fan, its nice to see they are finally on the right path as it related to player development. And as for Edmonton, I agree 100% - its a joke lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I am actually very surprised Bracco gets no hype yet. My buddy and I have a hockey podcast and we mentioned Bracco the one day and totally submarined him until we checked his stats, (While Live, always fact check before you open your mouth lol) he's lighting it up for the Marlies. He's now leading the AHL in assists and I thought he looked really good in the preseason as well. He's taken a little longer to progress than some of the others but the kid is very good.</div></div>
He is a hell of a player. I watch a lot of Junior hockey and saw a lot of him when he was in Kitchener - the kid has some great hands and is smart. Mason Marchment is another guy to watch for also. His numbers in Junior were not outstanding, but hes looking like hes a bit of a late bloomer. He has some size and he can put the puck in the net. Its nice that these guys can develop under the radar a bit as they aren't getting the attention that the 1st rounders are.

Agree it would be quite the haul for the leafs. Top 2 lines speak for themselves, I like the looks of your bottom 6 as well. Could see Brown getting traded at some point as well to make some cap room to upgrade the D. Good work.

Still lots of hockey left to play this year and you can’t say for sure what their contracts will look like, even my mind has changed in season. Mathews looked dominant at the beginning of the season but has tapered off a bit and marner has been looking better each game. I would put them in at 11-12m and 9-10m but my opinion could change as the season wears on.</div></div>
Yes, I understand. I'm saying that in my opinion Marner will be around 10 and Matthews will be around 13. And of course opinions are subject to change. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

The only TDL trade we should make
I like your trade. Kronwall is another guy I would look at for a rental. Wouldn't cost much, lots of experience, and would be an upgrade on D. Not a big Hamilton fan personally, He has been traded twice now in his career and there have been some red flags raised about him. If an impact D is on the table, id be looking at guys like Slavin, Pesce, one of Philly's D, Tanev, something like that. But I like your Jensen trade, cheap, effective D-man.

Will be tight for sure but if someone like brown is moved we will need Moore so sorry, maybe in 2021....
Not sure if you noticed but they are on 6 year deals. Mathews avv on an 8 year deal buying two extra ufa years would be around 13.3m and marner around 9.9m. Is that what you would expect on an 8 year deal?</div></div>
I actually didn't notice that, my bad. That being said, i'd be shocked if both aren't signed to 8 year deals (Especially Matthews). I agree with you that Matthews will be around 13 and Marner around 10 though in terms of AAV

Trouba and Willy
I think that Trouba trade it close, the Canes may have to add a little bit to it (I'm assuming that the trade involved Trouba resigning). As for the Nylander trade, I think it is way off. TVR is an OK D-man but its a 3rd pairing at best. The leafs are in win now mode, so the draft pick does not address their needs. Ferland is a fine winger, but not a world beater, and I don't know a lot about Saarela but his numbers are decent. This is a bad trade for TOR. To me its just quantity over quality and its way off. Just my opinion.

Deadline Deals PHI and DET
Like the DET deal. The Simmonds deal is a rip off for the leafs though. Like Simmonds as a player, but hes on the wrong side of 30 now and has had major hip problems. I'm fine with him as a rental and maybe on a shorter term deal, but trading Nylander for him is a very bad trade for TOR. Also, signing him long term scares me due to the style he plays and his injury history.

Thanks! I agree on Simmonds. Id be kind of surprised if they got him. As for Kronwall, hes not what he used to be but I think he could be had pretty cheap and he adds some experience and some grit ont he back end. As for Tanev, not sure what it would take to get him so I eventually just settled on that. Thanks for the feedback.

Canes trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FanBoy</b></div><div>I think CAR needs new forwards cus they're lacking in offense. Puljujarvi for Faulk 1 for 1 is fair except you'd need to add salary from EDM side. Rask is way overpaid and is border line 4C (not solid) and Spooner is a marginal upgrade on Rask. Lucic is the type of player rebuilding teams need on their roster for leadership. Lucic also has a higher PPG than Rask does with atleast twice as much games played 0.57 > 0.47 PPG. So if you think Lucic is junk, Rask is worst. In this whole deal, Puljujarvi has the highest potential to explode alongside Aho, which is why its way more appealing to CAR. CAR is losing with these players, the Oilers are barely above .500.
Lucic > Rask, Foegele + Faulk = Spooner + Puljujarvi = . Not based on skill, based on team needs.</div></div>
Lucic has scored 11 goals in his last 124 games and is making $6 Million. Spooner has 3 goals and 5 points in 36 games this season and his cap hit is $3.1 Mill. That's $9.1 Million for a combined 4 goals this year. Not to mention, Lucic cannot keep up any more. You are correct that Rask is struggling this year with only 3 points in 21 games. Lucic is not better than Rask though - not any more. Lucic cannot skate or score anymore, he is a liability and his contract is absolutely awful. I don't see EDM being able to trade him unless they either take back another bad contract or retain a good portion of Lucic's deal. I just don't see how EDM can trade 2 4th liners who eat up over $9 Million and a good prospect for a top pairing D-man, Rask (who is a depth player with some upside), and Foegele who is a solid young player. To me, EDM is getting the best player in this deal (Faulk) and is giving up the 2 worst players in Lucic and Spooner. I agree that Puljujarvi has the most potential, but that's all it is, potential. He could potentially be a top 6 guy with some offence, or he could potentially be a bust considering his draft position (I like him as a player though) - keep in mind he only has 17 goals in 124 career games. I just think that trade is nowhere close to a good deal from Carolina's perspective. And to be clear, I do not have strong feelings either way about either team so this isn't coming from a biased perspective.
