With the Reinbacher selection and Mailloux turning pro this year, I don’t think the Habs need to make this trade. Also, Kovacevic has proven to be a serviceable, cost-effective option on the back end, so I’d rather just keep him and wait for the other young guys

I guess we’ll know soon enough ! He is asking for 4.8 M$ in arbitration. But yeah they will probably start the year like this and make a move at the TDL if they’re in a good position.

It all depends on Swayman’s contract. If he ends up signing North of 4M$ (which is very likely considering Samsonov’s 3.5 M$ arbitration settlement), then BOS is in trouble cap wise…and still needs a 1C…

When you're trading star, impact players you want similar or similar potential in return, not filler to pad the bottom of the lineup. Of course those offers aren't considered. Bottom of the lineup depth can be had for much cheaper.
Late firsts and bottom of the lineup depth doesn't get 2 star players, retained for an entire year.</div></div>
A former vezina winner who’s now 30, potentially a rental (and/or who will likely command a 9M+ contract with too much term) does not get you the moon.
Especially when there is virtually no market for a goalie.
There are literally 2 teams that could use Hellebuyck AND afford him cap wise: NJ and BUF. Unfortunately for the jets, it affects Hellebuyck’s value big time

They would be better paying a 2nd or 3rd round pick to get rid of his contract than being stuck with 6 years of dead cap hit (as small as it is)

I'd guess it's either NJ wants to keep Vanacek, the Jets want a piece NJ is reluctant to part with or Helle's wanted contract is ridiculous and Fitz is asking himself if its even worth it. Also I doubt the Jets are willing to retain so that could be an issue too.</div></div>
I think it’s of combination of both a) the Jets want a piece NJ is reluctant to part with and b) Hellebuyck’s contract demands are ludicrous (which makes a deal more complicated than it looks like).

So I’m guessing getting a 24-year old starting goalie, a young depth RHD, a depth forward with term , 2 first round picks + a second (and more) for Scheifele and Hellebuyck does not garner any interest? Come on…

I don't know if Boston fans are gonna like that trade, but I also think it would be more shrewd to just offer sheet Swayman and trade Scheifele elsewhere.</div></div>
Given that it’s highly unlikely to see an offer sheet, and that Boston needs a C, I think it makes sense for both teams.
The first would most likely have some kind of protection on it since it’s the 2025 one and it could be conditional to Scheifele signing an extension (didn’t specify it, but would be very logic)

It’s not like if Beauvillier was a star player either… scored 20 goals only once early in his career. So in terms of value they are close and would be a better fit on these new teams

Dvorak has 2 years left not 3. Similar cap hit and he is a center which is harder to find. I think both players fit a need for the other team. Maybe MTL adds a little bit (the could swap picks) but with a rising cap next year, Dvorak at 4.45 M$ would not be an issue for the Canucks.

No need to pay anything to move them since cap space is not an issue this year.
Let Hoffman’s contract expire and reassess at the TDL or next year if Armia has any value on the trade market. If not, seriously consider buying him out next year

If Habs accept this, Kent Hughes would lose his job instantly. They wouldn’t even do Kovacevic for Myers 1 vs 1 considering Kovacevic has better advanced stats than Myers for 7x less money..

Boqvist has been in the NHL for 4 years and has never played more than 52 games.. better offensively than Harris, sure enough, but Harris is more reliable. CBJ has a surplus of RHD while MTL has too many LHD.

+ if Chevy waits until the TDL to trade Helly, he’s risking losing him for nothing in case of injury which would be terrible asset management

Marchessault makes sense to be a UFA pick up since they'll be a playoff team (although I can't imagine VGK losing a bidding war for him, especially since they have no state taxes and MTL is in, well, Montreal), but the other two likely will not be UFA pick ups</div></div>
I’d be also surprised to see them hit the market, but since it’s July 2023 and nothing’s confirmed as of today, I figured I’d give it a shot. That team would be very competitive (although very unlikely it happens).

That said we're not giving up on Monty a younger goalie in a good position with Price signed on to be his Conditioning coach full time after preparing him for the World Championships where he won Gold. It makes literally no sense to overpay an old goalie who said outright he wouldnt sign with WPG cause they're Rebuilding and they're still better off then we are as far as being closer to a playoff return.
I just dont see world where he signs here given how blunt he's been about playing for a team contending today</div></div>
For Hellebuyck to sign, MTL’s young core needs to have a great season statistically and make a push for the playoffs. If none of this happens, I agree he won’t even consider MTL.

Obviously this is made with the assumption that if he does hit the market, then he becomes a very interesting add for MTL. I agree that as of today it’s more likely to see him re-sign but as of today nothing’s done so I figured I might as well give it a shot
