Sharks are notoriously stingy with trades. Apparently it really annoys other teams but they almost always get what they want in that aspect.

Funny side note. This is the pick SJ traded to Minny to get Dubnyk two years back lol

Kahkonen got a great career in front of him. Im still not over Seattle picking Soucy over him. Good SJ pick.

San Jose swaps a 6th/7th defenceman for a solid NHL goalie with the same cap hit and that is capable of being a starter on any team.
And they also get a 5th round pick as a souvenir from the trade.
Sharks win.

Middleton was a ECHL defenseman, 7th round pick. SJ signed him and took 5 years to develop him into an NHL staple. Not a bad return for all that work.

Fair deal - Middleton is awesome I wish him the best but I’m so excited for Kaapo in teal.

This could be one of the steals of the deadline. KK has been the better goalie in Minnesota for the better part of the season, is young, and will get lots of playing time in San Jose.
Middleton is a 7th D-Man with bottom-6 ceiling. Nothing special and certainly not worth a starting goalie.
The Wild had to clear out cap space for next season when the cap crunch to end all cap crunches hits. I think their strategy must be to just do away with goalies! Brilliant!

Deadline v 1001
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Ah the patented bs answer that unless you are trading for an elite 1C is a joke. Meier is a good player but let’s not pretend he is some super star, .66ppg in his career. And getting the equivalent of 3 1st rd picks and 4/5 dman is a haul. But hey SJ can keep him, keep Hertl, keep Vlasic, EK, Burns, Couture and HOPE something changes next year.</div></div>
Yep they can thanks 👍
The only real value here is Barron and that 1st. That’s barely enough to get Hertl let alone Meier who has an extra year and expires an RFA. You have to give quality to get quality. It’s really no more complicated than that.
And by that same logic Meier is way better than Newhook (at a measly 0.45 PPG) and Byram (just 0.35 PPG)

Is a Seth Jones trade even possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Thats site is full of people like that. A bunch of meat heads that just like to talk down to everyone with their bad unfounded opinions instead of discussing anything. Especially when it comes to the Hawks. Everyone has a lot of spite for CHI, it seems. Probably has something to do with all the years CHI was really good.</div></div>
Definitely not everything's great but saying the site's full of people like that is a bit of an overstatement imo. Have encountered a lot of people with whom you can just talk Hockey with and it's enjoyable most of the time. But ofc some discussions get out of hand, especially when it comes to favourite players, teams, etc., but that's normal and doesn't have anything to with CapFriendly in general imo.

Longman and Eagle is great! Food in CHI is great in general. I live in New Hampshire now and food in New England is pretty bad. And most of the time the things people recommend out here are garbage. I miss Chicago if only for the food.

Keefe gave the top 6min to Thornton and Vesey. Barabanov never got a chance outside of a game or two in the top 6. Was primarily 4th line 5-6min. Tough to showcase anything there.
Happy to see him succeeding, like the player

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vladislav_Agaev</b></div><div>this is maybe right. but Will shark temporaery gm say they want to push forward with reset and be competitive next year starting. big trade for Keller, Laine type has to happen if he serious</div></div>
Yotes wouldn't consider it. Keller is 23 (so he fits the rebuild timeline), playing at an 35 goal 82 point pace (something the Yotes haven't had since Roenick), he's absolutely BELOVED in AZ and will likely be the next captain. It just isn't a fit, even if the value from Sjs is good.

Welcome to CapFriendly! I think you've got a lot of great stuff here, but I'm not sure about the Keller trade. I think the coyotes would consider that trade. But for the Sharks, players on their ELC's like Weatherby and Bordeleau, and whoever they pick with the 2023 first round pick are going to step in and play with the older players on expensive contracts. I like Keller and your thinking but cheap young players are the way the sharks will stay competitive in the future, in my opinion.
