It's not about the bad team part it's about securing a long term deal with a good cap hit when you are 30 vs 32. He's not Pavelski

Lindholm is turning 30 before the end of the year, he's not going to take a 2 year deal at 8.5M when he can get a 7 year deal at 7.5M elsewhere

Why would you pay to dump Vlasic with that much cap space? Also why would Chicago agree to take on that much salary for that little?

A first is the extremely low end of the price just to dump Campbell's contract, you're definitely not getting anything of value along with that.

I dont think this is worth it for the sharks.
Hertl prolly falls in a grey area where sharks wont get a good enough offer to move him, but he’s not worth a ton at the moment.

IMO Hertl is a min 1st plus a high prospect, way more if we wind up retaining.
But yea sharks should not move him he’s the next captain and leader of this club.
That being said if Kuzmenko is only going for a 2nd sharks might jump on that!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Waffelz</b></div><div>I don't see as much in Zadina yet, and Rutta doesn't really like up with any of the Sharks future plans. There will be some RD available in free agency in the next year or two though.
If they can't get a 2nd for him, I expect them to keep him. They traded a 3rd for him so the optics of moving him at neutral/a loss are too bad for anything less than a 2nd to make sense.</div></div>
Not saying Zadina is a high level player but he has far more potential and has actually produced as all this season, unlike Lavoie. Rutta I'd be ok with moving on from but I just think it would be easier to do that in his UFA season. And I'm looking at the pending RD UFAs and the one's that are likely to go the Free Agency aren't too impressive. I'd like to see DeMelo back, but other than that no one thrills me
As for your other point, I think getting back what you gave, or even less, is fine. They took a chance and it didn't work out great, it happens. And if he does improve over the season and can fetch more/fits in our future middle six, then I'm all for it.

Back on track with Mack Black
Absolutely terrible for SJ. Why would SJ do this? Genuinely curious.
- They can just ride out vlasic no problem. they can even waive him now that his NMC is over
- Retaining on Vlasic eliminates their last retention slot for this year and next, and then only one 3 years from now
- They're taking on a contract that's worse than Vlasics, considering the length of Campbell
- They only get one very mediocre asset back, in a position that's already logjammed with Thrun, Shakir, Okhotiuk, Ferraro, Gagnoni. Most of whom I'd take over Broberg.
- No Picks coming back
Just makes zero sense for SJ

Shockingly, I have to say the Sharks would decline a Vlasic trade haha.
Broberg doesn’t have really any stock value, and we already are invested in :
Shakir Muk (Meier)
Thrun (traded picks)
Ferraro (eehhh he’s shown a lot of good and some struggles)
Plus we have Pulli Cicek (probably solid 3rd pair bodies in the near future) and Knyzhov (potential) and that’s just a few of our LD.
Taking on a 8.5m Campbell (Vlasics retention plus the term use on the ret. slot) just make it an easy pass.
Sharks can easily fit Campbell fully, now and for the foreseeable future. No need for Vlasic to bog down a deal.

Sharks shouldn’t do this deal. taking on Campbell for picks and a prospect? sure! Moving Vlasic and our final retention slot for multiple years + Blackwood (who has played much better than his numbers suggest) for Campbell and a bust is not smart.

Grier collects another first PT2 - EDM
Earlier there appeared to be a consensus on this site that the price to dump Campbell would be two 1sts and a prospect. That's without sending any positive value players to Edmonton. There was also an earlier consensus that Barabanov is worth a 2nd, assuming he was as good or better than he was last year. Given that, this return seems too light for the Sharks. Especially since Kahkonen and Benning also have positive value.
However perhaps this return is more realistic at this time.
Regardless, the idea of the Sharks taking on Campbell in exchange for picks and prospects is a good one. And both Blackwood and Kahkonen have had better starts to the season than Campbell so either is an upgrade for the Oilers.
I might take Lavoie over Petrov to add more size to the Shark's pool of forward prospects.
