The Difinitive Leafs Cap Chart - Under Construction
Your numbers are reasonable if M & M were signed before the season but not likely after this season. The Leafs and both those players are greatly improved offensively and I believe both will end up in the top 20 in scoring with Matthews winning the Rocket Richard and Marner getting 80-90 points which means mucho dinero based upon thier play and a higher cap. We need to project another season to be realistic about what they will be worth.

Well if he is as good or better than Tavares and I also believe that he will be as good as Kutcherov this season then he will be paid accordingly. Matthews and Marner can drive a line themselves and Nylander can’t. Do you really believe that Marner at the end of this season will not have outperformed Nylander? I want to sign these guys for the
least amount possible but given the talent that M and M play with, the PP they are on and their improved skiils and play so far this season, they will not come cheap and unless the Leafs management can convince them to take a home town discount which is not a given, they will get paid what their comparables from other teams have signed for.

It’s actually less than McDavid Money because the cap will be about 10% higher than when McDavid sogned so it’s actually a little over $11,000,000 in McDavid dollars and Matthews and other agents will definitely be using the cap percentage as the comparable.

If Matthews scores 50 and 100 which I expect he will, he will get McDavid money. Nylander is not worth $7M and he won’t be getting it from the Leafs. Maybe after a bridge deal. You have undervalued Marner who is arguably the second best player on the team.

Look. We don’t know who the Leafs will draft, who will be available in a trade, how their young players will perform etc. etc. We are going two seasons out here so the important factor was to see if their most important players could be signed and kept on the roster without exceeding the cap. The secondary players on the roster are interchangeable with either draftees or other UFA’s or trade pieces.

I didn’t know how to put Horton on LTIR so the only way to stay under the cap was to trade him for a fifth round pick which is inconsequential to the roster anyway. I cant’t see them being able to brdge Nylander for less than $5M and Matthews is getting Mcdavid money or more and Marner similar to Kucherov given the increased cap and what I see them doing this year.

Realistically, most of the better players showing as being available two years from now will already be under contract. Looking for cheaper veterans who have some offense and will add some size and grit to the team and come cheap. Given this reality, who would you sign?

Yeah, I noticed that glitch. Keep in mind I only signed Nylander on a two year bridge deal. What do you think he would he would get paid? Check out my 20-21 roster too.

Like the roster but Nylander is a lot to give up if you can’t re-sign OEL. Why not wait for him to UFA and try and sign him for nothing?

Can’t see Doughty getting more than $10m since Burns is paid $8M. I bumped him up to $10M and Carlson to $7.5M. Still room to pay them with the LTIR.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Grentthealien</b></div><div>Why would jumbo Joe get 10 mil? I know it is only for one year , but don’t you think that is a huge overpayment at this stage of his career?</div></div>
Probably. He got $9m this year and I was surprised but what I’ve come to understand is that for cap teams like the Leafs, term is more important than salary. If they have the cap space for Jumbo for one year and he helps them win a cup, it is worth the investment. Kinda like the scenario thrown around for Tavares where they could pay him $15M on a one year deal next year to go all in for a cup. Can’t see that happening though since he’s in his prime earning years and he could get injured whereas Jumbo is near the end of his career.

Ok a 4th. Not really an important part of the roster I created. Just want to show how the team will be able to resign their RFA’s and add to the team next year and for 2019-2020. Check out my roster for the next year and please comment.

Isn’t the roster size 23 players? Need to sign three more and fit them under the cap.

Trade him anywhere you want but they will need to trade him and to a team that needs his cap hit to get to the floor. Given the salary structure in his contract he may even be expecting it. The Coyotes will not be able to keep OEL anyway and the two transactions would not be related.
