Thoughts On Mitch Marner Last Night
I agree. Frustrating loss last night, but I think the Leafs are going to start playing better with a healthy group

Can A Healthy Leafs Team Beat The Bruins
If it comes down to a single game, like it has the last two years, then there’s absolutely no reason why they can’t. They’ve just gotten outplayed. I know that isn’t very nuanced, but at the end of the day, anyone can beat anyone on any given day in this league.

If they can slow down the first line they can win a series. I'm interested in seeing if Keefe can pull something out of his ass to accomplish that, it's something Babcock has never been able to do. Because Keefe is everything Babcock isn't then maybe he's exactly what the doctor ordered.
Put the new Mik/JT/Hyman line out against Bergeron and co. as much as possible and stay out of the box and I like their chances.

I would be interested to see what some lineups moves look like to help stop the B's.
Match Mikheyev-Tavares-Hyman against the top line as much as possible. You can't shut them down fully, but those guys are defensively responsible and will make it tough for them to get extended zone time. The ideal D pairing here is maybe Muzzin-Holl?
Have Johnsson-Matthews-Nylander up next with Reilly and Ceci. Should be able to overpower Boston's 2nd line and gain an advantage.
Then Marner-Kerfoot-Kappy with Derms and Barrie. Lots of offence for a third group would hopefully be able to take advantage of their slower/heavier third group.
I would play my fourth line as little as possible,.
Does that do the job? Who knows, lots can change, injuries on either side could change things. Would be another very tight fun series, too bad it won't be in the conference final.

IMO, the only trait that other (reasonable) coaches admire in Babcock is how he suckered the Leafs into a eight year, front loaded, expensive contract.
Bill Peters. Yep, he seems to be a jerk. But years ago when Hawks and Rockford executives knew about the "slur" situation, their solution was to send the player to the ECHL. To me the lack of corrective action and "defending your own" is the most repulsive aspect of the situation.

Trades Dubus will make this season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>blowing_the_zone</b></div><div>It's hard not to like what Hyman brings. 20 goal 40 point forechecker pk guy who never slows down. I especially like the look of him on his strong side with JT and Mikheyev. Im hoping they keep that line together. It gives the leafs a new look with a line that can cycle and could also be a legitimate match up line.</div></div>
I was thinking the same thing.
If I'm Keefe I'd be tempted to try one of Nylander or Marner on the left when Marner comes back and put Matthews in the middle of them. Keep the JT match-up line together, had the youngsters as a potent scoring line, and bounce Johnsson down the lineup to help with depth scoring. Worst case scenario it doesn't work and you try something else

Hyman is, in my opinion, the teams best PK forward. If they want to improve in that department they need more guys like him, not less.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newballcoach</b></div><div>I think you could Hyman moved at some point. He's definitely a Babcock type player and Keefe may not have as much use for him. It will be interesting to see who moves where when Marner comes back.
I like Hyman, and he brings a bit of toughness and grit that everyone tells us our team lacks, but it seems like you have 10 or 11 forwards (depending on how you feel about Spezza and Petan) for those top 9 spots. Can Hyman bring you more then say, a Korshkov can in a callup from the AHL?
If Hyman moves what do the Leafs get for him? Either cap relief or try to get back another d-man for the stretch run at a retained salary. I bet Mike Green at 50% retained would be a nice addition beside Muzzin.</div></div>
It's really silly talk saying Hyman can only play for Babcock. Hyman can play for any team in the league. And trading him doesn't bring much cap relief as he cap hit is only 2.25m.
Green, is on LTIR and really isn't that good any more, except as the RHD on the PP, which the Leafs don't need

I have no clue why people are always trading Hyman. He is the hardest worker on this team and it isn't even close. Hyman is the least of this teams problems.

I can live with that. And with the Leafs cap situation maybe that's all they can do. Besides the Leafs have already the best trade possible this season. Keefe for Babcock.

Diabolical Plan LOL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>On top of that, I don't even think I'd do any of it. Ceci has been fine and the only way I'd trade him would be if Sandin absolutely has to be in the NHL and Dermot earns top pair minutes with Rielly. Then ship out Ceci. Hall is going to cost so much and then walk. Its a waste of assets.</div></div>
If you have a good shot, you take it. If the biggest asset out the door is a conditional 1st based on winning the cup (or an extension) to acquire an elite talent like that you make that deal in a heartbeat. Kapanen and Bracco will be missed but I'd get over it pretty quick once you see line 1 of Hall - Matthews - Nylander hop over the boards
Won't comment on Ceci as I still have no idea what he is, He's looked a lot better since the coaching change but that's a real small sample size to go off of. He's a mystery box...that occupies 4.5 million in cap space...

Nah man, certain things are wrong, we've evolved beyond what was okay to our grandparents. We're smart enough to know that racism, bigotry and chauvinism are very real and if that makes people uncomfortable, that's there problem not the people who are different. Peters needs to be fired, there is no question. Babs needs to evolve from the old school and demanding respect doesn't make you a ****y it makes you brave. They doesn't take away from the game, it makes it better. It makes it more colourful and pure, because it's what it's supposed to be, an amazing game anyone can play and love. Everyone needs to mean everyone.

Keefe certainly has an impact on Tyson and the entire roster. Yes Detroit is a weak team but this is a clinic they are putting on. This new system certainly fits this roster much better than Babs.
