Todays training camp lines

How would you rate your defense overall? Looks pretty weak but I don’t know everyone that well. I’m just trying to evaluate the North division to see how the leafs will fare. Would it be accurate to say that this Jets team is about average to above average or a border line playoff team...bad defense core, very good top 6 forwards, bad bottom 6 forwards, amazing goaltending?
I hope Maurice just gives Niku a legit chance to sink or swim.</div></div>

I like these lines. I heard they also may be thinking about going with 11 forwards and 7 D men with the bottom two forwards rotating into the top 3 lines throughout the game. Then they can be more selective with how the defensemens ice time will be allocated such as keeping bogosian in defensive zone and P.K. situations or reducing a defensemens ice time if he is having an off night.

How to win the cup
This is almost exactly the way I see it. Very realistic but also a lot of potential.
They have 2 proven #1 forward lines. Not too many teams can say that.
Their bottom 6 forward group all have a lot to prove but they added grit & good depth scoring in Thornton, Simmons, Vesey & Barabanov. Kerfoot also needs a bounce back year. This might be a wildcard for the leafs. a good thing is they have engvall, robertson, anderson pushing for ice time.
Brodie & Reily form a good #1 unit.
Muzzin fits well at #3 while they have a bunch of guys battling for that #4 spot inchluding Letonen, Holl, Dermott, Sandin, Bogosian. I think that's enough competition to confidently say they will have a good top 4 next season.
They also have good depth in the bottom pairing. The addition of bogosian, hoping letonen can make an impact but not sure, dermott should have a bounce back year, sandin is a great player but small and getting better / stronger and will definately push for minutes, holl looked great at times last year and should be getting better but might look great in a bottom pairing
addding campbell & dell in goal gives them some decent depth in goal and anderson will most definatley have a good bounce back year in his contract season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Laudan</b></div><div>Its not about will they want him or not, 2 Forwards must be exposed and he and Kerfoot are only ones that will meet requirements.

Again...Robertson is far from ready

Dermott before Holl on 2nd Pair</div></div>
I think vesey makes the team and they could expose him in the expansion draft along with kerfoot. but if vesey doesnt make it, envall would have to get his games in for exposure or else who are you going to expose on forward?
Mikheyev is definately a top 4 PK guy instead of maybe spezza.
Dermott might push holl in that top 4 spot but it will be a training camp battle.
How many D do they need to expose in the expansion draft 2? if so, dermott or holl. We need to open up a top 6 role for sandin by end of the year or year after.

A Weegar move that Florida can afford
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>crankshaft</b></div><div>Whats up with TO fans constantly trading Holl, Dermott and Engvall as if they we're actually worth something.</div></div>
Engvall can be sent down I believe. Moving Holl and Dermott would simply open up a bit of cap space and opportunity for Lehtonen, Sandin, Bogosian. you could put them on waivers but i think you can get pick's for them.

Decent top 6 forward group. Poor bottom 6. Lacking defensive depth. Burns and Karlsson must be healthy and log a lot of minutes. Not sure about goaltending. They will be lucky to make playoffs.

Definately a competitive team. They got a lot better this offseason. Good up the wings. Very good top 6. Amazing goaltending. Light on depth and high end scoring up the middle. 4th in the east.

I dont think he is. he's been in the league like over 5 or 7 years.

ya way too much for engvall and holl. Engvall to the minors. Holl i get moving as he makes a bit too much for a #5 / #6. He's gone if dermott, lehtonen, sandin can squeeze him out of being muzzin's partner.

because they have a very expensive D core right now. almost as expesnive as there forward group. I thought they had an internal cap of close to $70M but Kosterjy_ says this is not the case so not too sure.

ya definately a third pairing guy on a cup team. hoping one of lettonen, dermott or sanding step up their games into the second paring with muzzin. ya envall third liner at best. where's the soup man? mikheyev needs to be on the second line. he did well when not injured. now the leafs d looks to have some depth which they could have used when muzzin got injured in the play in series against columbus. holl in over his head when having to play top minutes against top lines.

this is probably close to what's its going to be next year except Mikheyev probably makes more than $1M/yr which brings them right up to the cap and you still need to account for another spare player most likely.. maybe kerfoot has to go?
