I'm not saying they would go unclaimed, just that I don't want them on the roster and I didn't want to make imaginary trades for Frolik, like I'm sure Treliving is doing RIGHT NOW.

2019-20 lineup my way
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CN10</b></div><div>I agree that it's time to try Lindholm as the #2C and have been wanting to see it since the playoffs last season. I feel like Lindholm does bring some battle to that top line that would be missed, so I personally would try Bennett at RW there. I also think Jankowski could benefit from a move to LW (he has been floating a bit as a center in his own end lately and already likes to leak out of the zone on the PK like a winger would at ES). He could go on a new 3M checking line to give that line two guys who are decent on face offs.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Bennett
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Jankowski - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Ryan - Rieder
x- Czarnik</div></div>
Yours works as well. Anything to get Chucky away from Backlund,

Taking Advantage of Cap
LTIR isn't a get out of jail free card. Horton's Cap hit is still part of the overall Team Cap until the day after the Season starts.
If the Leafs had $5M of space and wanted to sign Marner to a $10M deal they could only sign the Deal on the 2nd day of the Season as they would then be able to put Horton on LTIR for Cap relief at that time.
No player may be on LTIR if the team has Cap space available. Otherwise nobody would need to trade these Contracts away, would they?

Putting Mike Smith out of MY Misery
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brenfox31</b></div><div>You tried to Cap Dump Smith as a rental and ended up retaining exactly what you needed to get rid of.. You retain 4 million to "save" space???? also Smith is (despite his early struggles) probably better than Mrazek, and you just traded Frolik for literally nothing. if you wanna trade Smith because he hasn't played well, at least get something in return.... Also, you need picks and decided to give them a 4th just to make it worse.
I really hope this was a joke or just a way to trash on Smith, because if you're even slightly serious this is sad...</div></div>
Yes, IT IS SAD that it has come to the point where Smith needs to be wiped from the Whole Organization. It is an indictment on Mike Smith.
I'm NOT dumping Smith for Cap reasons. I'm getting him the Hell out of my dressing room, and nobody is taking our problem, so I need to give something to get something.
So I'm trading Frolik and swapping a 4th for a 6th in order to remove the stench and bad attitude of Smith from my whole Organization.
I wouldn't waive him because nobody will take him and then he will pout even more than he already is, and I can't send him to Stockton, because I don't want him exposed to my up and comers.
It's a shame that it has come to this, but maybe Mrazek will be happy to buddy up with Rittich, or if not then bringing in McBackup to partner with Rittich won't be any worse than Smith ON-ICE.
So, no, there's not $4M of cap space gained, but the way it's structured we would gain about $1.4M, LEAVING us with $4M of space after the trade to do something else.
AGAIN, NOBODY WILL CLAIM SMITH ON WAIVERS, AND I DON'T WANT HIM POISONING MY GUYS IN THE MINORS, SO I HAVE TO GIVE SOMETHING TO GET SOMETHING AND THE SOMETHING I'M GETTING IS RID OF SMITH.

We are sat the point where 2nd round picks dont benefit us now.</div></div>
So then play Andersson with Hanifin and Valimaki with Hamonic.
Could probably distribute the minutes like:
Gio/Brodie 22 mins
Hanifin/Ando 20 mins
Vali/Hammer 18 mins

It also doesn't make sense to move one Stone for the other. There's more appeal to getting them both and letting them play on the same team.
Not to mention the only valuable pieces you're giving up to get Mark Stone are essentially Valimaki and the 1st....just not enough for Dorion to accept, no matter how loopy he is.</div></div>
But it's a Hell of a lot more than he got for Karlsson.

Moving Weber, Price + rebuild

MTL is unlikely to make the playoffs soon, they tanked too hard for it to be a fluke. But with Price/Weber, you'll be trapped around 20th in the standings.
Why not do the obvious and retain the maximum of Weber's salary, widen the market, and get a better return?</div></div>
It's Nashville that gets the majority of the Recapture penalties isn't it? Pretty sure it's very minor for everyone else.
I thinks the cap hits and also the trade balance would work better if it was Drysaddle instead of Nuge.

Why are you trying to clear Cap space?
It's fine for this season.
No need to get rid of Bennett, just to create Cap space of 5.5 Mill to have it just sitting there.
Tkachuk doesn't get a raise until next season. Worry about it then.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SmugTkachuk</b></div><div>Creative idea, I like the thought that being said I don't see it happening. Parayko is key to St. Louis being competitive, if they went into a rebuild I still don't know if he would be available at his age and if it was a rebuild then they wouldn't be looking at Brodie it would start at Valimaki I think. That line up you made sure looks good though! I couldn't imagine Parayko and Hanifin playing together for a decade in Calgary!!</div></div>
I think that Valimaki will be a beast in a couple of years. and I think he is untouchable, whereas Andersson is touchable, but if we keep him will turn into a very nice PP guy on the 2nd pair. Andersson is a weaker skater than either Parayko or Valimaki and that is what seems to be separating the players nowadays.

Parayko? Craaaazyyy? Maybe not.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>They'll be improved but I think they are overrated a tad now. They have some really good pieces but their are also overvaluing some guys upfront. I think Schen is a good 2nd line centre, O'Reilly is one of the best 2nd line centres in the game (For 2-3 years still) but Bozak isn't very good.
What they are is a team that has a bunch of guys who if they all play to the absolute peak of their abilities they will be a very good team but if they play at a reasonable level for their abilities, they will be a step behind a lot of teams. What I mean by that is they have a bunch of guys who are likely best suited for lower spots in the lineup but can play higher up. So if everything breaks right and they play at an okay rate higher than where they should be, they'll be good. What I think is more likely though is that over a full season, Bozak will look like an overpriced 3rd line centre. Schenn will look like a 2nd line centre that would be better suited in sheltered minutes on a lower team. O'Reilly will be a good addition but he'll have trouble against the best centres in the game that he'll have to face since he's also the best defensive centre on the Blues. They effectively went all in with a lineup that has a short window and isn't likely a true contender.</div></div>
Agreed

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Okay I'll take another run at this, here is my example of most fans. (I'll use the Leafs as the example)
Nylander would be the most talented player on 75% of the teams in the NHL (That is a stretch for sure), so if you want him you'll have to send a lot our way. Think your best defenceman, best prospect and a 1st rounder.
Calgary fans, instead only talk about guys they want to trade and then talk up those guys like they are superstars.
Brodie isn't a superstar or really anything beyond a decent 2nd pairing player, maybe an above average 2nd pairing guy. But you guys talk him up like he's Subban or Karlsson but still always are wanting him gone? I just don't get it, is he really good? Or are you just pumping his tires so others start thinking more highly of him?</div></div>
I do not think Brodie is anything more than an average second pair guy.

Parayko? Craaaazyyy? Maybe not.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I'm from Western Canada, but not Alberta. Alberta sucks.
Calgary fans are just an interesting breed, I don't understand them. They always go nuts and gush about guys they want to trade. If they are so amazing and valuable, why do you all seem to want to trade them? Hamilton is the best defenceman in the league a future norris winner, also how quickly can we trade him? Most fans overvalue their own players big time, we are all guilty of that to various degrees but I haven't seen anyone on here mention any of the Flames core players at all but they'll go nuts on role guys and build them up into superstars. If I went off only things said on here, the best player in the history of the flames is Brodie! Girodano never is even mentioned and he's the Flames best defenceman by a longshot. He's the real reason why Hamilton looked so good.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Straight up, of course I'd take that trade. But that just won't ever happen. My point is, all Flames fans are very insistant that Brodie is one of the best defenceman in the game and yet they are always trading him. Ususally for players who are a lot better than Brodie.
For example, I've seen several Brodie for the rights to Nylander and a 1st rounder. Which is an insane price for a guy who would likely be a 2nd pairing guy in TO. But according to Flames fans Brodie will win the Norris because he's that good. Its just a really funny thing I've noticed on here. Its the exact opposite of what Edmonton fans do on here, which is to make trades where they always lose and lose bad. Draisaitl for a collection of garbage and a right handed defenceman or something stupid like that.</div></div>
Dude, I don't think Brodie is going to win the Norris. I just really love Prayko and I'd love to have him on my team, which is why I would trade Brodie, who I think needs a fresh start somewhere, and to facilitate the trade I am also offering up Rasmus Andersson, Jon Gillies who is a 6'6" monster in the crease and a 2nd round pick.
It's not a horrible offer by the way if you believe that Andersson has 1st pairing upside and Gillies only 2 years ago looked like a star in the making.
Should St. Louis do the deal? No. But mostly because they traded for O'Reilly and signed Bozak, so they must feel like they can make the Playoffs, but I actually don't think they will.
