Thinking outside the box
I edited the Calgary trade. Maybe this makes it slightly more palatable for the canes in the long run.

8 x 9.5 for Huberdeau, pass. Canes don’t carry guys until they are 38 at that high of a cap hit for good reasons. We aren’t about to start</div></div>
Fair, and I do agree it is a very Not-Canes-Like move, but IF we WERE to do something like that, I could see it happening for someone like Huberdeau who is at a "buy low" point given the last season. If Huberdeau had hit even 85 points last season, I doubt the flames would even entertain an offer like this. If the canes are in "win now" mode, I think this is a good way to try to get a proven effective offensive player now while giving up the least amount of assets in return even if it does spell doom for the last few years of his contract. All that being said, I definitely understand where you are coming from.

I didn't say it was likely. I was just trying to think outside the box. I think us taking on his contract is unlikely too, but Waddell has also been known for wanting to buy low, sell high. This may be the best "buy low" opportunity we'll ever have at Huberdeau given what everyone knows he is still capable of doing under the right circumstances.

Gee buy the trade you haven't given Jets that much more for three years of Connor, then you want for one year of Pesce.</div></div>
Sabres comment is fair. It would probably require Pesce getting an extension at or before arrival. As for the Connor trade, I changed it based on feedback. Are your thoughts still the same?

The Turbo comment is fair, and so is the comment about Olofsson; however, he is still good for around at least 20+ goals a season, and if we can get Buffalo to retain some, he'd be a fine depth piece for our team.

Lol I know it probably won't, but I've gotten bored with all the Nylander trade ideas, and I wanted to rock the boat a bit, and see what else we could poke around at.

I guess, it would be contingent upon them being able to resign Pesce. If they could do that, then I think it's a maybe.

Based on feedback. I sweetened the deal for Connor. Just curious what it would take to at least make Winnipeg think.

Wild New Ideas Comments Wanted
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>You're not getting Karlsson for a 7th. He just won his second Norris trophy. Yes, bad money is hard to move, but EK is not bad money, he has value.
Then you're turning around and flipping him, suggesting he has enough value to bring in Draisaitl, so it's just completely contradictory.</div></div>
EK may be able to bring in a bit more, but part of the issue is no one can afford him at full price. Furthermore, EK still has 4 more years on that contract. Moving it at full value is pretty close to impossible in today's cap market in my opinion. However, he has tremendous value as a sub $6Mil player. So the idea of the flip is partially in eating a total of $22 Million in dead cap over the next 4 years while giving a team the game changing player they want at a contract that is now below market value. I feel like the idea is not as outlandish as it sounds. The issue is if it would be enough to play in a deal for draisaitl. That is why I included the sweetner of Necas and took away their other bad contract of Yamamoto.

Sabres Playoff Push Defense Heavy
I can tell you now, the canes are not going to accept any deal for Pesce that doesn't make them better right now. The canes cup window is now, and I believe that they would keep Pesce for this season if only as a "rental". That being said, we'd definitely move him, but it may be part of a 3 team deal that incorporates us moving Pesce and maybe other pieces to get us the top tier scorer the canes desperately need.

Forsberg and offer sheet
I made this deal because canes want to win now and need more scoring and physicality while I believe the preds would like to get younger while still retaining talent. Right now Forsberg>Necas which benefits canes. 3-4 years from now when the preds start finding their footing again Necas>Forsberg. Based on the discussion I feel like it's actually pretty close to a good fair hockey deal.

no real reason to pay JP 1.5 mil to ride the pine.</div></div>
Curious what your thoughts on Forsberg are? This is one I haven't heard any talk of, but in some ways I feel like it could be a good move for us to get more physical scoring.

Somebody is going to offer sheet Laf before he signs that low for 2 years. He's easily worth the risk as a 2nd round pick to pay the price of $4.1 Mil for 1 year.

That's more along the lines of what I was thinking. I'm not crazy about giving the 1st, 2nd, and Morrow in this trade. But I would do the 1st, Morrow, and another oddball piece like a Gunler, or a later round pick any day.
I think next year could be Carolina's chance to get the cup. (I would say this year, but our forward core is skating on crutches right now). So I don't mind mortgaging some future pieces for talent that has impact right now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYRxLundqvist</b></div><div>You and Montreal keep that toxicity between you two</div></div>
I've been watching the NYR threads, and I think it could definitely be in the canes best interest to offer sheet Laf. NYR is going to have a hard time keeping the band together next year, and making a play like that for Laf given that for 2023-24 the canes won't have cap trouble could cause chaos for a division rival at little price to the canes. Point is, we could make you pay a lot more than $2.1 Mil to keep Laf next year.

I wanted to get both Schmaltz and a serviceable 3rd pairing D for under $5 Mil. That was a price that I felt they couldn't say no to. What would is the least you think we could pay to land them in this situation?
