You're not getting Karlsson for a 7th. He just won his second Norris trophy. Yes, bad money is hard to move, but EK is not bad money, he has value.

Then you're turning around and flipping him, suggesting he has enough value to bring in Draisaitl, so it's just completely contradictory.

Not sure the Blues are interested in moving Vrana. Got him for dirt cheap. If something happens like it did in Detroit, we've pretty much lost nothing. Maybe at the deadline, but would expect a much better return to be honest.

EK may be able to bring in a bit more, but part of the issue is no one can afford him at full price. Furthermore, EK still has 4 more years on that contract. Moving it at full value is pretty close to impossible in today's cap market in my opinion. However, he has tremendous value as a sub $6Mil player. So the idea of the flip is partially in eating a total of $22 Million in dead cap over the next 4 years while giving a team the game changing player they want at a contract that is now below market value. I feel like the idea is not as outlandish as it sounds. The issue is if it would be enough to play in a deal for draisaitl. That is why I included the sweetner of Necas and took away their other bad contract of Yamamoto.

1. add a lot to the SJ deal
2. subtract Drai from the Edmonton deal. They arent trading a top 5 C for older RHD when they are tying to win a cup.
3. how are we even going to afford everyone trying to retain 5.5 million for 4 years?

The blues don't have any incentive to move Vrana before the season starts. He was good for us at the end of last year and hopefully he can continue that trend

At the deadline probably if the Blues don't plan on re-signing him. We aren't going into this next season with expectations to stink though. Can't see Vrana moved this offseason especially with our cap crunch.

Seems like Doug has hedged his bets with almost every move since the tdl.

1. Vrana low cost high ceiling move. Could very easily be a 30G scorer on a bargain bin contract, or could completely bust and not play most of the games this coming season.
2. Kapanen waiver claim, guy with good pedigree, honestly a pretty good middle 6er for us last year very reliable. Also a very movable contract at the deadline if we stink.
3. Hayes - Super low cost. With retention again can't imagine there wouldn't be strong interest this coming deadline or next offseason for Hayes at 1.6m for 2 years if that's the route we need to go.

Sorry but that makes no sense for san jose, they get a seventh, and canes get a top player in the world? Edmonton declines either way
