(MTL/CGY) - Toffoli for Heineman, Pitlick, 2022 1st, 2023 5th
That one Habs guy will go the grave screaming and shaking about how "It should've been a first and Pelletier!". Solid trade for the Flames.
Edit: Oh nice he's right below me.

Vegas Golden Knights signed Dylan Coghlan (2 Years / $762,500 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Unbelievably cheap. The Golden Knights have only three righties capable of playing defense at the NHL level (although Shea Theodore has been playing there), so this is a steal. I thought that he'd get from $1 million to $1.25 million.</div></div>
I mean, they're alright considering Whitecloud's emergence from UDFA status and considering that both Theodore AND Martinez both have a history of playing off-hand with teams that they've played on. Coghlan certainly gives them other good options, however, in case of injury or if Martinez needs a rest day. He's a really good defenseman but also on the older side, so some minutes restriction in the regular season may be a smart strategy for Vegas.

Carolina Hurricanes signed Jesperi Kotkaniemi (1 Year / $6,100,035 AAV)
So I think we can all agree
Waddell is the most un-readable gm in the NHL
He reminds me of 2-face in the batman universe.
One minute he can have a meh free agency gambling on a bunch of bad apples and injury prone players to...
Signing Svechnikov to a nice team friendly deal...
Then go ahead and screw over another team via offersheet as revenge for the Aho attempt in 2019. But what makes this revenge scary is even if MTL matches they got an even bigger problem next year with Suzuki. As Waddell will have the space and resources to offersheet him for even more money to the point where it could make it very difficult for Bergevin to match
All I got to say rn is Waddell is either drunkenly gambling or galaxy braining this ****.
In other words

(VAN/VGK) - 2022 3rd round pick for Schmidt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>The cap hit is great but AP will be 31 when the season starts and 38 when this deal ends. It’s a terrible deal overall but great for the next 3-4 years but anytime you need to move a really good player to afford a different player makes me question roster management. Normal circumstances Schmidt could easily get a 1st now look what happened.</div></div>
Yeah but if you view it like a trade, VGK basically flipped Schmidt and a 3rd for Pietrangelo.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>It was a fleecing bc Vegas has terrible roster management</div></div>
People fail to understand that opportunity cost and cap space are also a form of compensation in trades. Because Nate Schmidt was traded for "only a third round pick", Vegas was able to sign Alex Pietrangelo. Undoubtedly, Vegas will be icing a more talented team next season.
In a trade market that isn't determined by other incentives, this trade would favor Vancouver, but incentives matter and scarcity drives this trade market.

I agree, he should have saw the pandemic coming and guessed how the financial market would be affected, then convinced Lehner that both were going to happen and that he should sign for way under market value.

An amazing deal for a PPG defender :squinty
A low cost option for the bottom pairing. He has perhaps second pairing upside as early as this year. I think he and Engelland or Holden could be a good fit as a D pair.
McNabb - Schmidt
Theodore - Engelland/Holden
Merrill/Schuldt - Engelland/Holden

Awesome signing for Vegas, the deepest team offensively in the West right now. Karlsson is far more valuable than Kevin Hayes both offensively and defensively. A+
