I included Kidney to satisfy the “every Montreal Canadiens fan is delusional.., their players don’t even know how to skate” critics out there!! Ha!

PRICE RETIRES HABS DRAFT SLAFKVOSKY PLUS TRADES FOR DUBOIS GEORGIEV AND GURIANOV
If you think that Pierre-Luc DuBois is worth paying $8.5 million per year, why do you think that the 26th overall pick in this year's draft and two modest prospects are sufficient to acquire him? I doubt that would be enough to re-acquire Max Pacioretty.

true, but a situation where larkin says in advance he would not sign with the team he is traded to would lower his value for sure. and i agree they could get a better offer that would satisfy more the teams needs, but i think value wise it is close though. (as a pure rental for anyone).
and i think lundkist first and second is something the wings would be interested too.

Dylan Larkin at trade deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kap97</b></div><div>I'm not sure if this can be done (or has ever been done) but I wonder if Larkin and the Wings agreed on an extension during the season, could he be traded at the deadline still? Technically the extension does not go into effect until July 1, so would he still be considered a UFA in February? If that's the case, yeah the Wings should 100% do this. And the Rangers too.</div></div>
I don't think it is actually allowed but it would have to be a handshake agreement that is under the table.

No. That becomes his new contract and follows him through trades. He wouldn’t become a UFA because he has a new SPC. FA’s lack a SPC.

Dylan Larkin at trade deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kap97</b></div><div>True. I'd think it would be different here though, since Larkin is captain and hometown guy and seems happy in Detroit. Could go on a quick run with the Rangers and get right back to it.
Foligno choosing not to go back to CBJ I think is because of the mass exodus from Columbus the past few years. I think Larkin is very likely to return to Detroit but I agree it's risky.</div></div>
Yea definitely don't think its impossible to happen, but if I was Yzerman no matter what discussions I had behind the scenes I would only trade Larkin if the return is like he wouldn't be coming back. I don't think Lundkvist + late 1st + a bunch of mediocre stuff would fit that.

He would be on the team that he is traded to with the extension. Can't be a UFA

Wings could do this but every year fans of a team think someone will do this and the player never resigns. Think about foligno with the leafs. Would be extremely dangerous for the red wings to make this move, as no matter what handshake agreement they have (that larkin would be stupid to make) he could always just test FA and see if he gets something better

Depth and a Goalie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kap97</b></div><div>I'm objectively looking at the values of these players. Sorokin is great, but has a limited showing so far. Pelech is excellent. but he's no Makar. Draisaitl is a top 5 player in the league.
Makar is the best player on his team. Draisaitl would be the best player on his team if it weren't for McDavid. Pelech and Sorokin are not the best players on their teams.</div></div>
I think this is a fair assessment - Draisaitl is probably the best player on the team for 3/4 of the league if you move him out of Edmonton. In a vacuum, trading a guy like that for a young goalie with great stats in fairly limited run (73 regular season starts + 5 more in the playoffs) and a shutdown defensive D (extremely necessary if unsexy part of every contender) is probably fair value; I think in this particular case, though, there's not enough currently in the Islanders org to replace the players you're sending out. You're upgrading the offense by a ton but kneecapping your D & goalie depth charts to do it.

man half the people here dont read what you are writing. its 100 % legal and have happened in the past. not with supterstar talent but more older players ( keith tkachuk was one, plekanec to some extent).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kap97</b></div><div>Personally I think Vatrano should not be a priority for the Rangers. He's good but not a difference maker. I'm not sure about the center position (Strome has got to go for sure but I'm also mixed on whether to re-sign Copp) but I think the wings shake out like this:
1st line wings: Lafreniere and Kreider - Kreider is a deflection machine and scores goals closer to the net, I don't think he needs to be on the left side to succeed and a lot of his goals come on the powerplay. Lafreniere on the other hand is stronger on the left side and given that he had like 20 goals or whatever at even strength, he should be on the left.
2nd line wings: Panarin and Kakko - Panarin will drive the offense of this line no matter who the center is. Kakko played well opposite Panarin earlier this year before the kid line took off. Maybe Chytil is here if they don't re-sign Copp?
3rd line wings: Blais and Kravtsov - but of a hot take, I know, but I do think Krav and the Rangers make amends (a la Puljujarvi and the Oilers a couple years back). Blais mostly plays the right side but given Krav's skill and need to develop in the NHL, I think the priority is for Krav to be on the right. Blais is a mix of skill and grit, so I think having him with an offensively skilled guy like Krav would be smart.
4th line wings: Motte and Reaves - centered likely by Goodrow, this line is one of the best fourth lines in the league imo. Defensively savvy, hard to play against. Kind of a dream fourth line if you ask me. And Hunt can sub in for Reaves if they need an offensive spark.
Really no need for Vatrano imo.</div></div>
That’s all dependent on Kravtsov and the Rangers making amends tho. Obviously if Krav is back then there’s no need for Vatrano to be back. Also will be interesting to see how Cuylle and Othmann factor into this and if the team feels like one of them can make the jump to the NHL at some point next year. Center is still the issue with this team tho, even if you get rid of the Vatrano and Rooney signings that would leave us with $5,871,031 in cap. Is Copp worth committing 5-5.5 aav to for the next 5-6 years? And if we do again that leaves us with no room to maneuver at the deadline
