They have their core Centers of the future in Fantilli, Sillinger, Johnson, and Voronkov that can play up and down the lineup an on each other's wings. A transitional #1 center like Lindholm might be their answer, but I would think they would rather upgrade in net.</div></div>
Fantilli is the 1C of the future for sure, but I don't think the front office envisions Johnson playing C in the NHL. Voronkov has been a nice addition and has continued to get better over the course of the year so maybe he could be the future 2C, In the description I also mentioned building a trade package around Necas instead of KK so maybe that'd be a better fit if Voronkov does solidify himself over the remainder of the season as the 2C. I don't see any team eating Elvis' contract so you may be stuck with him in net and his cap hit unless they buy him out.

if we werent a contender, sure KK could be in the deal for a flip but we are trying to contend.</div></div>
I'd argue this proposed team will be just as likely to win a cup in 24-25 as they are this year in 23-24. Jiricek only adds to the "contender" status not just in this year but in the long term future of the team as well and the emergence of Drury as a budding 2C with offensive production while still being defensively responsible has made KK an expendable asset when Ponomarev or a veteran center on a cheaper 1-year deal could play effectively the same role that KK is playing right now. KK is not a bad player by any means, he's just played his way down the lineup while other guys have increased their own stock.

Keep the gang together
Drury is missing on this roster and I think FUS may need one more year of development before jumping up to the NHL. Skjei and Pesce will make more and there's a good chance only one of them will be back next year. Also Martinook will get more as well.

Bunting and Noesen could be swapped to maintain that duo and then have Necas providing playmaking and speed on the line. Drury and Noesen have had great chemistry together dating back to Chicago when they won the Calder.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Letsgosharks</b></div><div>if you are getting him retained we are getting more than a 4th</div></div>
You get a prospect putting up respectable KHL numbers as well as the 4th. Goalie returns usually aren't super high in trades so anything more than a 3rd straight up or a 4th+ for a 1B goalie on an expiring contract is likely what you can expect a return to be.

Yeah the front office could've been planning a trade with Anaheim for Gibson+ (maybe Henrique half retained or something along those lines) and then move Freddie to LTIR to make the money work.

I don't think Tony or Freddie are worth much on the trade market outside late draft picks if even that. Freddie could always go on LTIR if they wanted to add even more space.

Stop the Bleeding
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ecupirate07</b></div><div>Lyon will fall off. Detroit would be silly to sell reimer at this point</div></div>
Yes Lyon's success isn't sustainable at this level for the remainder of the season but even if he drops to league average ~.903 from here on out, he's still likely cemented himself as a backup. Reimer hasn't played since mid-Nov and his last 3 out of 5 games weren't great showings (3ga, 3ga, 5ga; also not all on him, team in front of him didn't play great either in those games) for him so in CAR-fashion, he could be a buy low option that could give the Canes somewhat of a reset on the backend and hopefully get either Raanta or Kochetkov some time to figure it out for the rest of this year.

Finishing Touches

It'd likely be either Jarvis or Teravainen that gets shifted down the lineup if the Canes sign Kane, in my example I just shifted Jarvis to create a 3rd/4th line that could effectively score while also being great at wearing down opponents on the forecheck with a top-6 that'd be more skill oriented. I think the Canes are the most likely dark horse in the race to sign him as he wants to be on a legit contending team, even Friedman noted this a week ago on 32 Thoughts that Kane values a shot at a cup most, and teams like COL, FLA and CAR would be the closest thing to legit SC contenders at this point who could fit him in. They wouldn't get the media coverage that a team like TOR or BUF will get in the "rumor" mill but I think they're definitely involved in talks with Kane.

Pesce To CBJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BoomerTheHero</b></div><div>So we would have one of Gudbranson or Peeke scratched? thats alot of money for them not to play. What happens when Jiricek is ready? if we have Pesce for 6 years, Peeke for 3 more, and Gudbranson for 3 more? What about when Ceulemans is ready in a couple years?
We have already addressed our needs at RD, we arent trading for another one, especially not with a 6 year contract.</div></div>
I'm pretty sure Peeke has been shopped around this offseason and in the event of a trade like this, would likely be moved out to a team with minimal NHL-caliber defensemen (ie chicago or anaheim). For Gudbranson, that contract was rough from the moment it was signed and he's either scratched, traded, or bought out in the next year or two would be my guess, whether Columbus trades for another dman or not. CBJ had been in the trade market for another top-4 guy even after they acquired Severson so I'm just looking at a potential marriage between team needs/wants. Especially considering Sillinger would likely start this year in the AHL due to CBJ's lineup currently.

To pair Pesce with Werenski. D-pairs would look as follows:
Werenski - Pesce
Provorov - Severson
Bean - Gudbranson/Peeke

Defensemen Swap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>InRodWeTrust</b></div><div>I don't think DeAngelo is "Plan B" for Karlsson. However, I do agree that a target of around $4M of retention between SJ and a 3rd team is spot on. That would make the money work. Now the exact pieces and parts for all of that can be debated, but EK at about $7.5M is where I think it should land.</div></div>
I don't think the Deangelo trade happens unless a Karlsson trade falls through as they both serve the same role on a team and bringing in both makes the defensive core worse defensively cause Chatty's probably pushed down the DC, so that's why I look at it as a Plan B.

Turbo might bounce back, but are you signing him to an extension? I’m not, time to move on if it bring more goal scoring. It’s a shame because if TT was more aggressive with his shot he could be a 25-30 goal scorer. The book is written at this point.</div></div>
Then why follow through with a trade for a guy who you don't even plan to play and takes up 2.5m in cap space? You could put that money towards a TDL acquisition or a current free agent like Tarasenko instead of slotting 2.5m in the press box.

I know it can happen, but that doesn't necessarily mean it should happen. You'd expect Turbo to bounce back, especially when surrounding him with better quality players/opportunities this season, and I don't think TDA would be an issue to bring back, apart from the fact that by bringing in both Karlsson & TDA, you're now pushing Chatfield out of the lineup. I'm all for competition and making guys earn spots but if it comes at the cost of hindering a promising young(ish) player's development, then are you losing more in the long term than you're gaining in the short term? Especially when TDA would be the 3rd or 4th best puck moving D-man on the team behind Karlsson, Burns, and Orlov.
