Karlsson In Pesce Out

Created by: gaz
Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 5, 2023
Published: Jul. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'd imagine the Tarasenko (alleged) deal has since fallen through now that he's switched agents to Brisson. Was probably looking at a 1y x ~4m deal for CAR vs likely 2-3 years and more money from OTT and maybe he wasn't satisfied with the money he felt he wasn't getting by those offers. Also hopefully the deal with PHI doesn't come to fruition if we're trying to get Karlsson as we'd be super pressed for cap space and DeAngelo would probably be the 3rd or 4th best puck mover on the D-side behind Karlsson, Burns, & Orlov.

I love DeAngelo, and forgor is a meme.

By "ruin it" I meant the EK69 trade

Waddell said that there was a deal in principle but maybe if the Karlsson trade can be pulled off before then, the Canes would then subsequently pass on following through with the DeAngelo trade come July 8th.

What futures package would you trade for Pesce? Can't see the Canes trading him away only to take on more cap unless it's a clear top-6 forward.

Tarasenko EK65 and TDA can all happen. Turbo and one of Pesce/Skjei would have to be moved out. TDA isn’t really the cog messing any of this up.

Anything we gain from moving Pesce will need to be used to acquire Karlsson

I know it can happen, but that doesn't necessarily mean it should happen. You'd expect Turbo to bounce back, especially when surrounding him with better quality players/opportunities this season, and I don't think TDA would be an issue to bring back, apart from the fact that by bringing in both Karlsson & TDA, you're now pushing Chatfield out of the lineup. I'm all for competition and making guys earn spots but if it comes at the cost of hindering a promising young(ish) player's development, then are you losing more in the long term than you're gaining in the short term? Especially when TDA would be the 3rd or 4th best puck moving D-man on the team behind Karlsson, Burns, and Orlov.

You assume that TDA would play over Chatfield, which I do not.

Turbo might bounce back, but are you signing him to an extension? I’m not, time to move on if it bring more goal scoring. It’s a shame because if TT was more aggressive with his shot he could be a 25-30 goal scorer. The book is written at this point.

Then why follow through with a trade for a guy who you don't even plan to play and takes up 2.5m in cap space? You could put that money towards a TDL acquisition or a current free agent like Tarasenko instead of slotting 2.5m in the press box.

Past actions predict future actions - Canes don’t do a lot at the TDL

I wouldn’t trade no top forward prospects. I’d do 25 1st and 24 2nd and fabbro. I’d add a pick if needed. Nashville is in no position to lose a forward for a defenseman.
