Have Mercer sign an extension as part of the deal, pull out Siegenthaler, and upgrade the pick to a conditional 2025 2nd-round pick that turns into a 2025 1st-round pick if NJD makes the playoffs. Nothing against Siegenthaler, NSH's left side is already over capacity as NSH already has 3 players fighting for the bottom pair on the left side behind Josi - McDonagh, with a 4th player not far behind. Siegenthaler just complicates that for NSH.

Can't see the Preds going for that; Konecny is very very nice, but the Preds don't have enough quality futures to be able to afford giving them up.

Maybe chychrun and Josi could pair up and chychrun long term replaces josi but outside of that? We have too much tied up in LHD at the moment and it isnt a place in dire need of an upgrade like other areas of the team.
Lauzon wont be traded either. Brings too much that management/coach likes in grit/hits especially to be traded out for a guy that doesnt hit at all.</div></div>
Yeah, without McDonagh in NSH, it's more realistic for the Preds. It's hard to imagine him willing to be traded there though. Then when you think about how willing would OTT be to trade Chychrun for a more expensive, much older replacement, not to mention how do they make room for McDonagh's cap hit without a lot of other moves - I think it's too unrealistic for the Sens now.
Maybe the Devils would be interested in Chychrun? Their left side isn't the strongest.

I don't get why so many OTT proposals involve sending Chychrun to NSH, but the Preds are deeper with LDs than they are at any other position. He's not a fit for them.

Not really big on Chych tbh, we also have too much money tied into our LD. If he was RD maybe

2024 Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>herzausstein</b></div><div>Agreed. Swayman's size would also help too. Even though saros has excelled over the years at 5'11" people still worry about his size and as he ages and loses speed that actually might begin to become more of an issue. 3 years younger and 6'2" Swayman would probably get a bigger haul but i doubt Boston would ever consider trading him.</div></div>
Which is why I expect NJD to simply pay a standard 2025 1st+sweetener package for Ullmark.
The hope with swayman comes from the history of guys who go through the arbitration process. They rarely stay long term if they don't have a long term contract done that offseason. (80% are gone within 2 years)
One of the rare exceptions comes from Nashville in Weber, but he signed an offer sheet with another team, so I wouldn't exactly count him as "staying"

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>herzausstein</b></div><div>It is what Trotz' wants and i think it is too much. Casey and a 1st should be the high end of what we get in my opinion unless there is a bidding war for Saros. Even then Mercer being included would be all sorts of overpay.
Stamkos isnt going anywhere.
Too much per year on March but right contract length.</div></div>
Yeah Mercer would only be on the market for Swayman. As good as Saros has been, the goalie aging curve is not kind to goalies into their mid 30s

If NSH doesn’t see a future with Tomasino, I could see this working. Feels like a slight overpay honestly. A 1 for 1 for RHD or C in a similar situation makes the most sense imo. But ultimately just want the most value they can get if they put him on the block.

So OTT is giving up a late round 1st an injury prone young center and the worst starting goalie in the league in exchange for 2 high end prospect and a top 7 goalie in the league? Yeah keep dreaming and I'm not even a Preds fan so GL to you when they see this.

A Ferrari with no engine maybe? I like laine and wish all the best for him but his head is not in the game I truely don’t think he even cares that much about hockey anymore.
I think between playing for 2 poor franchise like Columbus and Winnipeg and then after all the stuff torts put him through I don’t think he has the will or drive anymore

I think that's too much for Hronek, but NSH isn't the right team for him anyway. Why spend whatever assets to acquire him plus whatever his new contract will be, when you already have an elite offensive defenseman in Josi?
No thanks on Laine.
Wood just transferred to a new college. He's not turning pro just yet.

Preds pass. No need for Chabot with Molendyk coming up in a few years. As it stands, we already have 5 NHL LD and I personally would hang onto the 1st and go for Skjei in FA if we were looking around.

Offseason ideas
This is an easy pass for NSH. Boucher has not looked good this year in the AHL, so why would NSH take a strict downgrade on all fronts by giving up more assets not only in prospects but in current NHL quality for a late 1st, an uninspiring prospect, and a 3rd next year? Tomasino is outpacing Boucher in PPG by a wide margin while also putting up nearly half a point per game at the NHL level.
This is also not to mention that NSH already has several top-tier RW prospects and young players like Evangelista, Kemell, and Wood in addition to Tomasino.

I think that Necas offer gets matched, and the Addison offer isn't good value. I'd rather bring back Carrier, than give up assets for Addison.
Why re-sign Beauvillier though? He hasn't been a great fit so far, and definitely hasn't justified getting a raise. Zucker's been better, and could probably be re-signed for a season or two, for much less.
