A big swing for next year

Jospeh is a good 3LD/7thD but Nieto would be redundant with the depth Ottawa already has on the left. Smith without retention is basically a cap dump and the fact one of the 2nds isnt for another two drafts after this one... definitely a no go. I know in this scenario you sent the 1st for Swayman but I dont think there is a deal to be had with Ottawa if that 1st isnt going their way.</div></div>
One of the 2nds I sent technically could be a first, we just don’t know yet lol

JR just feels like a guy that signs the guys that just seem like he would, ya know? Like he signs awful deals too, but with no Geno in this thought experiment, feels like his pivot would be Trocheck, the Pittsburgh kid

It’s already been said the Pens would need at least a 1, NHLer and A prospect, so you’re looking at like Nils, top prospect, and 1 to start for Jake, now if you wanna do straight up Kuz for Smith I’d be willing to talk cause we need a guy we can try to turn into another scorer

I’m saying it like that to prove why Jake most likely won’t be moved, Kane is there just for cap basically, Broberg has flamed out for the oilers, the 1st is gonna be late, so one of those names is like the biggest value the pens get and why it’ll cost so much

That’s fine cause it’d be a hard no from the Pens anyway, they need a better player than Holloway, wouldn’t wanna move Ned unless it nets them a 2 alone, and aren’t giving up a 3rd, EDM would be looking at havoto give up like Broberg, Kane, a 1 and one of Lavoie, Tullio, Petrov or Bourgault for just Jake alone

What’s the no here? I’m not doing assets or anything, it’s all purely speculation on what I think the team could look like if GMJR was still the GM, and there was a time everyone thought Boeser was for sure gone and I’d have thought JR would jump on that if he was pens GM at the time

No way the pens accept this, you’d have to have the prospect be Raty, Willander, or Lekkerimaki. Maybe Brzustewicz works but you’d have to add another prospect/player like Bains or Petterson the defender. Plus even with a top prospect the pens are still gonna ask for another NHL player back like Nils, especially if you’re taking Smith from them as well, and that’s all IF they move Jake, and that’s a huge if rn

Tbh, idk that it’s so much better, I think Zucker and smith are pretty equal, no Geno or EK hurts the star power and offense tbh, but the team is more balanced and has depth so idk

I don’t think they’re desperate to get out of it, but it seems like them, and all the fans would like to as well. Rust is a good 2 way player that can help in a lot of areas. He’s still on a 30 G, 67 pt pace in 82 games. He’s a better player than Kuz rn and that’s pretty clear. His game should age fairly gracefully too the way he plays. And I think Rust would fit way better into how Van plays than Pitt tbh, Ik they’re looking for a star, but he’d do great there, be able to play on the PK and PP1. IK it wouldn’t happen, but neither would Raty, Kuz and a 1 for Jake, Kuz is closer to a cap dump than an asset to any other team in the NHL rn. Nils value is low since he can’t get off the 4th line and is on pace for like 30 points, he needs a new home to see if he can actually do something. Raty is the only one from the nuks with pretty decent value

I mean, go up on the picks maybe, he’s a 5th rounder who’s played ok, not great, he’s a 7th d or in the AHL for most teams. Ruds just evens out the players but also gives them a RHD to play, Nieto is another body, but really it’s just for them to get some picks back, Megna is virtually worthless rn, so yea I mean I don’t think anyone in the deal has a lot of value, probably never will.

That's basically giving him away for nothing at all.</div></div>

They give up no conditional picks, they get a couple, guess my wording was bad, and some picks go to Ari to pick up additional retention, Petry isn’t a pure cap dump and he could be moved for other picks, Sharks are only retaining like 3-3.5 mil here I just can’t really show that. This most likely ends up being Petry, POJ, a young already top 4 LHD, 2 1sts and a third to SJ.

It’s solid, but tbh just take the conditions out to make it easier for a deal, straight up SJ gets a 24 1 and 25 2 add in POJ and take a little more retention and throw a 3rd or 2 back to pit instead of Mac if you’re taking Granlund too maybe make the 25 picks a 2nd and 3rd that have conditions to bump up a pick each like of the pens make the playoffs in 2025 then the 2nd is a 1st, if they make it to the ECF then the 3rd is a 2nd that helps them have insurance for moving a 2 off Granlund and some more retention as well

I saw someone do a flames one that the pens got Ruzicka, a prospect and a 2, can’t remember the other player. His contract isn’t bad either. He’s a 50 point top 6 guy that plays in all situations for about 5 mil, it’s not necessarily a steal, but it’s not like Granlund who’s getting paid about the same to be a traffic cone.
