Description
This is about the best case for the pens, they don’t completely strip their picks away and build good depth for this year, if things go well they have pieces and cap to trade for someone, but it banks on Nylander or Boqvist working with Geno and is hoping a Zadina can turn it around because they are still losing a top 6 guy in rust, while the bottom 6 has better players and balance, the scoring touch may still need a boost, that would have to come from Ruzicka, DOC or Poulin or Zadina coming up and being good, overall tho it puts them in a good spot to be competitive and see where the team is come Jan/Feb. a deadline deal for a scorer could push them into contention, but having the score dcore here could be enough to facilitate their 5v5 scoring and keep them out of their own zone, they have better forecheckers as last year basically only Zucker was a consistent forechecker, Nylander showed flashes but wasn’t in enough, but this lineup has Boqvist, Acciari, Suter and Nylander. The D should be much better at breaking the neutral zone as any of Letang, EK, Smith, or Petts can carry the puck out, and Bear, EK, Letang, and Smith should make good zone breaking passes to the FWs. They missed guys that made good zone breaking passes outside of Letang mostly last year. Hopefully the threat of both helps the transition and opens up the ice for the pens. If you take the Rust deal out he slots into the Middle 6 but you lose Suter and Ruzicka. Would mean a lineup more like
Jake-Sid-Rak
Smith-Geno-Nylander
Boqvist-Eller-Rust
DOC-Acciari-Carter
Nieto-Zadina/Hinostroza
Still a solid lineup, may even be better than what I have, but would mean it’s a little bit older as well since you switch Suter(27) and Ruzicka(24) for Rust(31) and lose a couple picks

Additional Details:
Saw a SJ fan throw something like this out there, gonna piggyback on it but imma give them more then they did cause I think they sold short a bit, 3 team deal with Ari and them. The 2nd and 3rd from pit are conditional so if Pitt makes the playoffs in 25 the 2nd is a first, if they make it to the ECF the 3rd is a second, so could be a 2nd and 3rd or a 1st and 3rd or 1st and 2nd, since this idea also means they sacrifice a puck to shed Granlund, that gives them insurance a bit.

You honestly think San Jose will retain $20 mil and take back over $12 mil in Petry and give up a conditional 1st and 3 more picks for…another LD they already have 12 of? This is terrible as was the other trade you used to base this off of

I don't think the Sharks do that even if they kept all of their picks. That offer isn't enough for Karlsson at $5m retained (which the Sharks have come out and said that they won't do, their max is $3m).

Think SJS retains 3M and AZ 2M per his notes. Just can't really show that on ACGM.

This would be like 3.2-3.5 from the Sharks and like 1.5 from the Yotes

They give up no conditional picks, they get a couple, guess my wording was bad, and some picks go to Ari to pick up additional retention, Petry isn’t a pure cap dump and he could be moved for other picks, Sharks are only retaining like 3-3.5 mil here I just can’t really show that. This most likely ends up being Petry, POJ, a young already top 4 LHD, 2 1sts and a third to SJ.

The 2024 Devils 2nd upgrades to a 2024 1st if they make the conference finals this year. In the event that occurs, the Sharks would effectively be moving up 1 round from 3rd to 2nd and getting Petry (100% cap dump) and a LD prospect (which they already have too many of) all for the privilege of retaining money on Karlsson. That's basically giving him away for nothing at all.

Even if it was a different 2nd, the Sharks aren't trading Karlsson with retention just to move up a couple of spots in a draft 2 years from now, that's completely insane.
