Rangers Trading block
The only ones I could be seeing moved are Strome and Deangelo, and that's only if Jeff Gorton has replacements in mind (Braden Schneider comes to mind). Not sure if Chytil is ready for 2C, especially with the caliber of players rangers might have on their "2nd" line (One of Panarin, Kreider, Kakko, or Lafreniere at least). So if they move Strome, he'll need to find a solid 2C, maybe in free agency next year.
I can't see him paying a price to move Smith/Johnson with only a year left on his deal. Moving Henrik and Staal gave him the cap for this year. Johnson is a bridge to replace Staal at one fifth the cost, so he probably stays for the year as well.
Everyone else is good Seattle fodder. Gorton knows he has to meet certain exposure requirements so he'll probably play them just enough to satisfy them.

If this actually was the team, seems a lot tougher to be competitive than Vegas. but that cap space will come in handy.
would the canadiens really let toffoli go a year after signing him?

though kreider is 29, you make a good point. the team isn't particularly relevant to me, though I do like Jarnkrok's game. reminds me of Jesper Fast (rest in carolina)

I agree this price on Kreider may be high, but a "win now" team would take it. Maybe not at this price or Nashville specifically, but someone probably would.
Honestly, I don't think Smith is the worst player to have. I think he's terrible for his current price tag ($4.35 million) but he's a versatile guy who played 4th line forward and 3rd line d man in a tough year. especially with COVID running rampant, he might not be the worst guy to have as a healthy scratch at a lower price

Kreider to the Habs
not totally opposed to this but if they did move Kreider I think/hope it wouldn't be for another winger to compete for a top 6 roster spot. It's getting crowded with Panarin, Kredier, Laf, Kakko, and Buch (and potentially Kravtsov). if they found a longer term solution for 2C that would be neat

again, my gripe isn't with the trade value, it's valuing Zibanejad as a 2C to play under Matthews. he says get a 2C like Kadri and then puts in Zibanejad. trade value aside, he's not

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchMarnerElite </b></div><div>No offence, but Mika isn’t anywhere near Tavares‘ level as a player. Only decency bias will favour Mika because of Tavares’ down year but Tavares averaged 35 goals and 78 points every 82 games for the Islanders. Considering he played with weak linemates like Moulson & Okposo, that is extremely impressive. Zibanejad hasn’t played with elite wingers either but his career average is 60 points per 82 games. Tell me who’s better?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Read the description, its not about the trade value</div></div>
I wouldn't go as far to say Mika is a better player than Tavares right now, but it is much closer than you think. Career points/season isn't as impressive to me because Zibanejad is just entering his prime. this season Mika had 41/34/75 in 57 games. Tavares's best year (2018/19) was 47/41/88 in 82 games. Again, I still wouldn't say Mika is definitely better right now, but it's a lot closer than you guys are making it seem. Mika is definitely not a 2C player. He can play 2C on a stacked team, but he is a top line center for sure. Mika went from 74 points in 82 games two years ago to 75 points in 57 games last year. That "averaging 60 points in 82 games" is kinda a bogus stat. Yea he might not be a top 10 pick that comes into the league on fire, but he is growing into an elite center

All good points. I just worry about having a soft top 6 potentially without Kreider. I miss the glory days of Rick Nash. I love Lemieux and Gauthier has potential. Even Buch has shown some grit lately.

Gauthier is a good one as well, I overlooked him. But I wouldn't be so sure about Kreider staying. I think Gorton's plans may have changed if he knew he was getting Lafreniere at the draft when he resigned Kreider in February. It's gonna be tough on LW to manage Kreider, Panarin, and Lafreniere. Even if one of them switches to their off side, you have Buch, Kakko, and potentially Kravtsov in the mix. I love all the players on the team, but logistically it seems hard to keep them all, especially with larger contracts looming for Shesterkin, Fox, Zibanejad, Kakko and Lafreniere.

the talent is there but I worry about the physicality of the team with so many skill guys. especially if kreider gets moved, the team needs more physical forwards, since just having lemieux on your fourth line probably won't cut it. I don't want them turning into the maple leafs

It's worth noting that between 2012 (Brady Skjei) and 2017, beginning the rebuild (Lias Andersson, Filip Chytil), they had no first round picks. still came away with some good players in that span like Buchnevich, Duclair, and Shesterkin

Honestly I can live with most of this list. Jeff Gorton has done a good job with the rebuild and it looks like he didn't miss too much before hand.
