They can buy out Schmidt and make other moves if need be. Cheaper than throwing away a high pick and a useful player.

Hronek for Reilly blockbuster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jakdonaghy</b></div><div>Hopefully Sharks can find a few of these sorts of deals</div></div>
The goal I would assume is grab shorter term overpriced players to reach the cap and provide some vet leadership (And obviously some more draft capitol) but try not to deals over 3 years so we have cap flexibility when this team starts competing again.

Giving UFAs extra term to sign in SJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vols94</b></div><div>Yeah probably another year before the young guys are impactful but I expect some of them will stick like Eklund this year. Grier has shown he'll give term for guys. We have plenty of bottom of the lineup guys both signed or in the AHL. this team needs a top 6 winger badly. i rather fill in the bottom next year with young guys and spend like 2x6M on a guy who can get 25 goals</div></div>
It's worth noting that it's less about the amount of time and more about when the deals end. Benning got 4 years last year and Burroughs got 3 years this year. None of the contracts GMMG has signed go beyond the 25-26 season. That's also the final year of the Vlasic contract (barring a potential buyout giving a reduced amount but extending the timeline). It seems like he's trying to have the cap table as empty as possible when it's time for the team to start to look at making the playoffs. Note that I'm not suggesting they'll be contenders in 26-27, more of a Detroit/Buffalo/Ottawa position where there's reason to believe they could compete for the playoffs. I see him making similar offers this year, potentially limiting them to 2 years unless they're someone he thinks might actually be part of the next good Sharks team (and obviously ELCs aren't included in that).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jakdonaghy</b></div><div>If a team picks up Barabonov they will be pleasantly surprised</div></div>
I think he would fit in Tampa at either 2RW or 3RW, and it seems Tampa is a team that is reported to be interested. Tampa wouldn't even need the Sharks to retain now because of Sergachev's injury, which keeps the cost a little lower for them.

Blues in the playoffs
I think Kunin to St. Louis would be a reasonable fit, but the pick will have to be higher. I'm not saying crazy high, even like a 2025 4th round pick and a 2024 5th rounder if Kapanen is coming back the other way

People may not be high on him, but San Jose isn't going to trade you Kunin for a 7th and a guy who will 100% walk at the end of the year.

Teams love his speed. It's why Duclair always gets a job.
If he's not scoring he's still drawing penalties.
You can move him up and down your lineup.
He creates mismatches against bottom 6 guys.
Teams aren't desperate to make trades right now.
Deadlines make deals.

No doubt he's had a rollercoaster of a season and is currently not performing where we need him to be at. Not saying that he's going to get anything better than a 2024 3rd round pick, but his services will bode well as a middle 6 wing.

cuz Sissons is gonna cost you.
He's on a solid contract and is arguably one of the best defensive forwards. He skates well, is pretty physical and just plays with compete every shift. He's got a lot of value to us.

Comes down to need and sharks need him, plus he’s signed next year. But as a seller if the price is right then you should always take it!

I feel like we made a commitment to him, especially since he was one of the key returns in the Meier trade, but yes I guess you are right. Personally, I would want a pretty big overpay if I was to let go of him

Maybe for a 1st plus. But even then, how often does a late first turn into a player line Zetterlund. Like 30-50% of the time?
Makes more sense to keep Zetterlund, he's only improving.
And this return doesn't come remotely close
