Most likely thing to happen
Personally I would want to see a Perreault trade to Keep Statsny and move Roslovic to the wing instead. Perreault was irrelevant in the playoffs but still has value. I like that you added Niku into the lineup. I think he will be on the opening night roster. I think you're underpaying Hellebuyck. Term isn't everything

Another Big Move — Thoughts
You kinda forgot a player. Minor detail
Also Keller is a Calder Trophy candidate this year after a great year... on the wing. Although it is indicated that he can play center, he played this year on the wing.
Even though the PIT trades helps out their cap situation, they aren't stupid. Archibald is not an NHLer and a 6th isn't either. Needs to be more realistic. No reason for EDM to accept that trade either

cup contenders?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Munk99</b></div><div>you're right. I forgot to fix the lines. making changes now</div></div>
I appreciate you changing the lines to a more realistic approach. Weal wont be 3rd line C but since Hextall has expressed interest in keeping Filpulla around for at least another year, then he could be 3rd line C until any of the C prospects are ready to make the jump (Frost, Rubtsov, Vorobyov, Vecchione)
Also, as much as I want him back in the orange and black and regret the Luke Schenn trade, signing JVR doesn't seem smart short or long term in this setup. A healthy Simmonds is a 30 goal scorer and belongs on the 2nd line at the lowest. He had so many bad injuries this past year, only missed 7 games and still had over 20 goals. He should be 2nd line and Lindblom should be 3rd line for development. If you like Weal enough to keep him on the roster (I don't and would want a bigger physical presence in bottom 6 but its personal preference) then he could be 4th line LW if JVR isn't signed. Seems like a solid lineup to me.
Also, I didn't mention it before and didn't see it in any above comments but I applaud you for the Neuvirth trade to open up a spot for Lyon. Hart is the definite starter in the AHL so Lyon wouldn't get nearly the amount of starts he got this year. With his impressive performance in the AHL playoffs, solid play in NHL play, and praise from Hextall about his consistency, this seems like a realistic option. Well done

Galchenyuk
I don't agree with the line combinations like making Dvorak 4th line center when he belongs as a 2nd line center so Strome can ease into the season as 3rd line and 2nd line PP to expand his role at his own rate. Also, why is Perlini not in the starting lineup?
The other problem I see is why would you take Wahlstrom at #5 when there's so many better options. Assuming Tkatchuk goes 4, ARI has to take one of the right handed defensemen (Bouchard, Hughes, Dobson, or Boqvist). I just don't see Wahlstrom going 5 despite his offensive awareness and NHL ready shot. There have been numerous reports about his bad work ethic and 200 foot game needing work. While those aren't deal brakers, I consider those road blocks that keep him out of the top 5 and even out of the top 10 in a draft this deep.

cup contenders?
I like this format and player evaluation. I don't think a 3rd is realistic with Stolarz's injury problems but with his NHL experience and upside (if healthy) then maybe. Only Hextall would be able to get that much for him. The only real problem I see with this is that Giroux is playing center. He should be right wing with Coots up the middle and Nolan as 2nd line center. That would force the whole lineup to look different

I appreciate the effort. What do you disagree with? Duchene is on the last year of his contract and personally I wouldn't want him as he was bad for the lockerroom in COL and probably isn't much better in OTT. Chalpik is a quality player who could make the NHL this year and the 2nd is a late 2nd rounder that still has value

Feedback? (Trades w/ CAR, CBJ, PIT, MIN)
Personally I think that Hanifin and Reinhart are worth more money. Overall I like this setup. I don't think you would have to retain any of ROR's contract in that deal because of how much you're giving CAR. I also think that you would have to give up more for Hagelin and Sheary and can get more in return for Nylander. You stated that Ennis is just a cap dump, so it's essentially Coyle for Nylander. MIN will take that all day. Nylander, while starting slow, still has a high ceiling. Use that potential to your advantage in that trade by either getting more in return, or trading him to a team that could give you a legit goalie to build around. Personally, I don't see a reason to trade Nylander but if you want to I would want a goalie in return as the forward and D depth you depicted looks really good. Maybe a Nylander for Korpisalo trade? CBJ have one year left on Bob and Korp so they will ahve to make a decision. Trading Nylander for him would make that an easy one for them imo.
Dahlin Hanifin would be a nasty pairing but realistically I see it being Dahlin Ristolainen, then probably Hanifin Bogo on the second pair, leaving Scandella Guhle as the 3rd pairing. That's just a personal preference. Overall nice setup

Fixing the D...fense... Fixing the Defense
De Haan's contract is realistic for going through FA and I feel that it is good value, however, why would you sign him and force Sergachev to be 7th D? He spent time on the 2nd powerplay for most of the year and even some time on the first. Signing De Haan doesn't make sense.
Also, Tanev, while coveted by many, is an injury liability and is not as elite as many people think. If you really want him you could give up Johnson straight up. You wouldn't have to include Koekkoek and a 3rd.
While I agree with getting rid of Coburn, I disagree with the Girardi move. He was brought in to be a defensive, shutdown guy and he has done that and then some. He's great at blocking shots and provides depth in bottom pairing. Stralman is paired with Hedman so that leaves Dotchin (I agree he will be on next year's roster) and Girardi to pair with McDonaugh.
You claim to be "Fixing the Defense" but it doesn't look broken to me.

Kessel run
Short term this looks like a legit cup contending team. Long term this could be disasterous. Doughty is due for at least $8 a year, Andreoff is worth close to a mil, Iafallo and Kempe could sign bridge deals to keep cap low but would still have to be at least $1 and $2 respectively. I like the hypothetical of this roster setup but next year would be a tank year

Goodbye Kessel
I really like the trades and signings you've made. They make next year's setup very nice and are realistic with Kessel trade talks and interest in Domi. The problem I have is in the Kessel trade. I understand why you included Hunwick to get rid of his salary but I don't think that would decrease the value of the trade as much as you might be thinking. Getting Hjalmarsson might be a nice addition but Andersson is NHL ready and if you trade Sheary for a kid who is ready to play, there's not sense in filling up his spot where he can develop and be Schultz's replacement in 2 years. Kessel is such an elite player that he requires a quality NHL player, 1st round pick, and quality prospect and the least imo. There were talks earlier in the year about OTT trading Karlsson if teams would be willing to take on Bobby Ryan's contract. Although a trade didn't go through, many teams considered it becuase of how elite EK is. I think th same is going on here. You can get Domi, maybe ARI '18 2nd becuase their 1st is so high, and a prospect like Tyler Steenbergen or Pierre Olivier-Joseph. Even including Hunwick's contract, I still think Kessel's value is still high

Building a Champion in the Desert
I see what you're trying to do here but the money and term are off for a lot of these guys. Teams can't just sign a bunch of FAs and expect to be a competitor the next year. They have to grow from within and through the draft. That's how every cup winner in the last 10 years has built their team. Yes they've made key trades and signings (Chicago getting Vermette in 2015 or LA getting Carter in 2012) but the core group of guys that help win those cups are developed through the draft, their time with the farm teams, and years of putting them in the right situations to not rush their progress. Minnesota comes to mind when I see this setup with how they signed Parise and Suter and made trades for short-term guys like Hanzal. Although what you've presented fills a lot of gaps for the Coyotes, the point made earlier about next year's setup with all the RFAs is going to be very difficult. Teams just don't win like this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Ultimate_Pielord</b></div><div>The Beagle contract's an issue for me. 3 million could probably fetch Tomas Plekanec, who's better, and you wouldn't have to give him term, allowing more flexibility when dealing with Tkachuk and Henrique's next contracts.
Grabner's also gonna run you more like 5-6 million IMO, the guy nearly scored 30 last year. (I am aware that Matt Cane has him under 4 million. I think his model underrates how valuable goals are for UFas relative to points.)
Grabner should also probably be swapped with Ferland, he scored 27G with a much worse situation than Ferland's (while Ferand potted 20)
That said, this is easily the best CGY lineup I've seen on Capfriendly, if only because you kept the 3M line together. The trades make sense and the teams big issue (the third line) has been fixed. Nice job!</div></div>
Thanks for your honesty and I appreciate the praise. I disagree that Plekanec is better than Beagle. Plekanec has more skill but cannot go into the dirty areas like Beagle can. Plekanec is signing back with MTL so I didn't even consider him. Beagle is the perfect 4th line C in my opinion. He's big, good at faceoffs, he's a leader, grinds in the corners, and now has a stanley cup on his resume. I think every team is going to go after him which is why he is worth that contract in FA.

Where is Robert Hagg?</div></div>
I respect your opinion but in Hextall's end of season statements he said that he wants to improve the PK and add depth in FA. I feel that adding Beagle and Grabner accomplishes both of those objectives and more. Plus how do you expect to win with a bunch of young guys in the bottom 6? Sorry but Weal, Leier, and Vecchione/Vorobyov isn't going to be good enough. Lack of experience killed us this year. I agree that we have one of if not the best prospect pools in the league but we need to implement those players in the proper way for that to matter. If we rush them or don't put them on a solid line then it's not worth it. That's how all the championship teams develop their players too.

That's a great point. Scheifele signed that deal before he really proved himself as a dominant force in the NHL so I feel that since WK just had 44 that he could be worth a little more than Scheifele but probably not $7 pertaining to the point you just made

I respect the balls it takes to propose a trade like this. Props to you. I would counter that you could get more for JT since he is so elite and signed for 8 years. Although bringing in Carlson and Grubauer (I would want Samsonov more but whatever) looks great for the NYI roster, why would WSH want to get JT with Kuznetsov and Backstrom being their top centers. I don't think WSH wants to put either guy on the wing to make room for JT.
I like the idea of signing and trading JT but don't think WSH would be the best fit despite their ability to give you Carlson and a promising goalie

Despite putting up average rookie stats from the blueline, Hagg was our best shutdown D this year and has a lot of room to grow. He was top 3 in the league in hits for the majority of the year. Assuming Beaulieau stays (who knows) it wouldn't work with BUF D. Dahlin, Scandella, Bealieau already on left side. However if Bealieau leaves then this could be a huge acquisition for BUF

Coots Patrick Frost is our center depth going forward. Unless ROR plays wing it wouldn't work. If he does play wing then why trade Simmonds to get him. Doesn't make sense to me. Plus with the adversity that Simmonds went through this year I don't want to lose a warrior like that. Despite the potential trade talk around Simmonds, I don't think he will get traded as Hextall has already stated that he wants to keep him and for good reason.
That being said I like the Boedker trade. I think that uses PHI cap room nicely but not sure if SJ wants to get rid of him as they are all in this year with all of the expiring contracts coming up. Hypothetically it works. However, it only would work in this scenario as we wouldn't need more wingers if we keep Simmonds.
I really like the Myers trade. He would be great here being a right handed D and with decent contract. Essentially 1st for Myers and since we have multiple 1sts it makes sense. Hope that actually happens. That would be a significant upgrade in every way from Gudas
