Current Lineup imo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>crankshaft</b></div><div>After last year in the AHL, Merkley needs another year of seasoning with the Cuda. He is not ready. I would not be surprised if Pederson took over as 4C.</div></div>
I watched nearly every 'cuda game last season. Merkley is unrefined and risky. But this is my thing:
For one, hes improved. I had three games last season where I really felt that he was an elite talents. 2/5 were at the very end of the season.
It's Merkley's D+4 Season, he should be making the league this year or his chances of ever becoming an NHL-talent are small. Especially for a first rounder.
Merkley can improve our bottom 3 NHL power play. We for some reason love rolling 2 dmen on one of the PP units, so this makes that reasonable (Sommer never gave Merkley PP1 time on the cuda which was so stupid, he was the best QB available).

Ryan Donato
Sharks fan here, I don't love Donato.
He needs the talent of second liners to have better results. He has a fair amount of skill and talent but he lacks the instinct to really put it together. There's a reason a bad team (albeit we do have a lot of wingers) are not qualifying him

A stupid idea I had
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Whiskerz</b></div><div>Would basically be the 2nd line with the bags of excrement wingers you left Cooch with 🤣</div></div>
Balcers is our third winger and Leonard is fifth in EV points/60. Of our wingers, their defensive results are only matched by Kane on the team (yes, Leonard is very good defensively despite what Bob thinks)
Hertl opened the19-20 season with Labanc and Radil, I will never have sympathy for Couture who always receives better linemates than he.
My thought process is create a first and third line of scoring and a defense first second line (like MTL)

Future with Eklund at C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Whiskerz</b></div><div>I would argue Vlasic is more key, at least Burns should still be able to eat minutes for a few more years. Hopefully EK65 van return to better health and play up to his best we have seen in SJ for extended periods on 2nd pair.
Moving Vlasic would let us bring on a cheap 3rd pair of prospects (Kniazev/Merkley is what I used in my version)
Going to he interesting couple years for franchise though, if they suck again we get another high end prospect and that makes this "retool" even more stomachable</div></div>
Burns is realistic to get rid of, Vlasic is unmovable

Maybe we can get Hertl to sign a 8yr 5.5M AAV deal like Nuge to help make cap work.</div></div>
thats the main issue yeah is the goalie.
Getting rid of Burns is the key

I would take Gambrell over Donato, 1 he's cheaper & 2 he plays a more important position. We already need to get a 3C, & if we lose Gambrell, we have to get a 4C, unless they finally roll w/ Kellman or True ect...</div></div>
The Sharks are not in a spot to be giving up more picks unless its to offload a huge contract

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wadejos123</b></div><div>1) it will be hard to find another team to do what Holland did
2) they partially did it because mcdavid wanted them to
3) Kieth is a 3 time champ, burns hasn't won once. That expierience factors in
4) just because kieth is still a servicible 2nd pair guy at 37 and 38 years old doesn't mean Burns will be. The idea that "they will be the same age at the end of their deals" is nonsense. Kieth will be 38 at the end of his, Burns will be 40 so your point isn't even correct, but that's not even the part that matters. You can't tell what burns play will be like 3-4 years. He very well could fall off a cliff that kieth hasn't fallen off yet. SO much more risk in all that term on the contract, regarless of if you retain to make it the same cap hit.
5) burns is owed double the atcual cash that kieth is owed. Burns is owed 7.5, then 6.5, then two years of 5. Kieth is owed 2.1 this year and 1.5 next year
And does it even make sense for the sharks? Recapture would be terrible if Burns was to retire and theres a much better chance he retires in the next 4 years than kieth does in the next 2</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Klara</b></div><div>He had the most TOI this year behind only Doughty, and still puts up plenty of offense while having improved defensively under Boughner</div></div>

check out Keith compared to Burns. Also for reference, Keith's last Norris vote was 2014-15, Burns was 2018-19

Labanc
Sharks would need an extra asset. 5v5 points/60: Wood-1.56, Labanc- 1.97
Labanc's rate makes him a definite top six player, Wood's rate is around players on the Sharks like John Leonard and Ryan Donato.
Also I do a fair amount of scouting, no one from this class should immediately jump into the NHL, besides maybe Beniers, but he may not even want to. Hughes is very young for this class, and really needs time in college.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>klaw2</b></div><div>I dont see the problem with any of these trades. The Sharks get for Hertl a 3rd line C who is still only 22 and is established in the NHL already, 2 picks, and a pretty good defensive prospect for a rental in Hertl. I see it being similar to the Pacioretty trade from a few years ago. Obviously its not a perfect comparison but thats my logic in this trade. For the Labanc trade, its basically a wash, as they get someone who can play 3C and is younger and has more upside, and its sort of a change of scenery swap, with Chicago giving up a 2nd to balance it out, as I would say Labanc is more established at this point. The Simek trade is a cap dump, Malgin/Donato swap is 2 guys who may not get Qualified, and I can see Malgin doing well in SJ, as he played well under Boughner in Florida and is a similar player to Barabanov.</div></div>
The Sharks didn't get a first or a high second so the prospect pool continues to middle. Hertl without a first is laughable, think Hall to Arizona or Duchene to Columbus as comparables.

He's a defensive defenseman (in retrospect maybe MTL doesn't need that) that can transition into offense decently. In the OZone, not too much there
