Addison Trade Comps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CoachCoach</b></div><div>As someone ringing the Addison bell and a fan of him, Detroit declines. The additional picks are too messy. A fair offer (assuming there still is little interest in re-signing him) is one of the early seconds this season. If an addition needs to be made, throw back on MIN's 4th from the Sunny trade.</div></div>
That’s a fair response, my point was to align with comp trades. I do think if 41 is on the table, a deal could get done.

Addison Trade Comps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stadel</b></div><div>Idk how you can argue addison has the best track record. He was a healthy scratch on more than a few occasions this year and his defensive short comings are known around the league. Sandin and lundkvist were both former 1st rounders too, that helps inflate value a bit.</div></div>
So I hear the former 1st rounder thing a bit and I don’t get it. Sandin went 29 and Lundkvist went 28 if I remember correctly. Sandin has a decent enough track record to say he’s not a black hole but I’m pretty sure Addison’s xGA rates are similar. As for the scratches, Addison played the same number of games Lundkvist did.
I’ll listen to a different rank order, but they’re very similar players in more ways than you’d expect.

Maybe the Wild send back the VGK 2nd? But I don’t think the values are off, I’m just not sold on Dvorsky >= Rossi, I think Rossi’s ceiling is higher and we can probably find a 2/3C at 21, even if they may be a longer shot than Dvorsky.
But I don’t do the trade for the same reason you’re offering it up…. :)

That’s an intriguing Rossi trade, I wouldn’t do it but it’s got legs. There’s something about the 2nd going to WSH that makes me not like it for the Wild but it’s fair value.
I just think Rossi is due for his career to get going but this is a good one.

I’m sure they’d like more but unless they take salary back (they won’t) this feels pretty in line for what top 6 scorers go for. Maybe TOR offers a better prospect but this feels good IMO.

Draft Deals for the Post-DeadCap Era
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drmantalban</b></div><div>Oh I completely agree, but that would be a departure from what they've done so far and what they've indicated they'll continue to do. I hope they play him like that, but I'm still skeptical.
Tbh I'd even go a step further and say from here on out, almost everything we do should be done in service of the post-buyout years/era. Obviously that doesn't mean start dealing everyone, but I think they should be stacking every decision against the question of: "what ramifications does this have for that era?" And that applies to extensions, trades, playing time, special teams, etc.
The goal definitely cannot be "just win."</div></div>
Absolutely the nuance we need but haven’t seen. I’ll also remain skeptical until we see it.

Draft Deals for the Post-DeadCap Era
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drmantalban</b></div><div>I'd be very surprised if they play Rossi with Kaprizov for half a season. I'd love to see him get at least 15-20 games strung together, but I'm not even convinced they'll do that.
And yeah we'll see with Addy. I do think he's gone, but I'd certainly rather play him over Merrill, Goose or any random veteran 7th D. IMO, it would be idiotic to trade him for a 2nd then run those guys on the bottom pair again all year.</div></div>
No reason not to play Rossi with 97 or 12. The goal for the next 2 years cannot be “just win.” Dean needs to put players in positions to succeed and adapt the on ice strategy to benefit those players. If he’s not gonna do that, there’s no reason he should be with this team. His W/L record shouldn’t be used to evaluate him next year.

Draft Deals for the Post-DeadCap Era
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drmantalban</b></div><div>Yeah I wouldn't make the deal myself. As for the values, I usually err on the side of lower values on CF - just don't have the patience to argue over that stuff with ppl on here anymore. The Greenway to BUF saga soured me on that lol.
You can def tweak the values up to your liking, but I agree with you. There are many very solid comps to suggest Addy's value is higher than CF would have you believe.</div></div>
I’m also not 100% sold that Addy is gone. I still think it’s likely but if the org is able to pull in a more suitable partner for him, I think it’s worth taking the risk rather than selling for less than a late 1st.
Also, let Rossi cook with 97 for the first half the season and then we can say whether or not he’s a bust. The picks this year need to supplement what we have, not replace it.

I know Russo keeps saying the org could Rossi if they got a 1st but what he means is a mid teens pick. Like 12-16. It would be tragic for the org to take this deal.
And I think we’re all undervaluing Addison.

I would agree with you. But other teams likely see him as a buy low candidate. Savoie went 9 OA, you’d need the equivalent of 2 20 OA picks to match that on value, and I think most teams would value Rossi around that.

Probably Rossi and 20 OA. Gustafsson is no where near as valuable on the trade market as people are making him out to be.

Is Dubas the GM making these moves?
Everything looks fairly realistic. Good job</div></div>
Of the trades that have revolved around moving up in the 1st round, a 10% premia on the highest pick is the average “overpay” to complete the trade.
I only brought it up with the OP b/c I’m doing some work with picks and the draft ATM. But agreed that nothing looks off, and I figured OP would like to hear the Pens could get more. ;)

My targets for a Durzi trade are teams that have multiple firsts and don't want to do a full rebuild. St Louis is at the top of my list, if they can move one of Krug or Faulk. Nashville seems like a good option as well because they simply can't move their huge salary players and Saros/Josi are too good to tank. They'd also still be getting one of those 1st RD prospects that you mention with their better pick.</div></div>
Definitely the targets I was thinking of too. But yeah, I guess we’ll see on what he goes for.

He's got his flaws, sure, which is why I think LA would need to send a lower pick back. But if a team was acquiring Durzi, they're looking for a specific set of talents that he provides very well.</div></div>
I guess where I’m at is that if you need to add a balancing pick to upgrade the return to a 1st, it’s unlikely that will materialize. Teams will probably hold the first and give away the lower picks, it’s a 2-way street.
Those 1st RD picks now have a prospect in a GM’s eye rather than a thought of lifting the cup like they did at the TDL.

I’m gonna be very interested to see what he gets. I don’t think he gets a 1st, but I’m not willing to put money on that. I do think a 2nd and 3rd is a fair offer to start things off.

So a comparable trade is the ARI 27/34/45 going to SJS for 11. The FLA pick is assumed to be 28 (and can only get less valuable) and the PIT pick is 14, that 3 spot difference is worth roughly 10%.
I think the Habs would be all over this screaming no take backs. And depending on whether the Habs think there’s a tier change, that could make it an even better deal for them and much worse for the Pens.

It’s the Johanssen move that gets me thinking tho. IDK if anybody would take him, especially if the cap stays flat.

That pick swap wouldnt be fair value going back to PIT in a draft day trade. You’d probably need another late 2nd to get the right amount of value.
