<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonnymc26</b></div><div>its really not that different to switch sides, mostly just shooting angles change. its nice to have your stick board side when on offence but not necessary.</div></div>
You are correct that many wingers like to play the off wing (especially Europeans) as their stick is more on center when they take their shot (notice where Jack and Ovi set up on the PP). It does take some time to get accustomed to it.
I would imagine Olofsson may have played a lot of RW but I am only speculating.
Housley liked to play wingers on the strong hand. Left handed on the left and right handed on the right. On the other hand, it may change with Kruger (especially since he coached many European players).
Regardless, you are correct, we need more RW than LW.
Let me add, Sheary can also play the off wing.
Finally, I like your post, We need Center more than wingers and moving Reinhart to center makes good sense.

Nice post
I like it.
I like that you are not trading any defensemen.
Ruotsalainen I believe has to stay in Buffalo or he goes back to Finland. BTW he was one of the better players during the French connection 3 on 3 competition.
Sheary is a good winger. He played very well with Rodrigues, and I think he is worth more to Buffalo than a third.
But it is a good trade to get a third in return.

I think with the style of game he plays, bottom 6 makes no sense, but at the same time neither does top 6. You need some toughness in the bottom 6 (see this years playoffs) and sheary is just so under whelming

2 year plan
Very optimistic, nice job. TBH, if Luukkonen is as good as his last year, then just small changes would make the team a playoff contender. I can think of at least 7 loses due to GK, add 14 points to 76 then that is 90, would only need to make small improvements to get to the playoffs.
Edit: I also like the draft approach to building team, most GM's do it this way. Chiarelli and Murray both failed when they tried to jump start the rebuild.

Buffalo has two top young players at their position including the best defenceman under 25 in the NHL. It's an enticing opportunity. Also you're stuck with Babbcock for at least a few more years. Keefe probably knows he'll never be hotter than he is right now. It makes sense to leave for the NHL now. He's coaching in the AHL for F's sake

(CAR/NYR) - Fox for 2019 2nd, 2020 conditional 3rd round picks

Anyone have any insights?</div></div>a) August 15th is the deadline to sign NCAA free agents.
b) Fox's rights don't technically expire until next year.
c) Given that he seems to already have proven that he's hit his ceiling at the NCAA level (120 P in 97 career games), he's probably eager to go ahead and start his pro career, but he said he would only sign with the Rangers. the Rangers obviously would want somebody like Fox, and they could have waited a year to sign him, but they'd run the (probably small) risk of some other team snatching him up, and that would also push any real evaluation of him back a year. if they want him in Hartford next year to evaluate and see whether or not he's as good as his NCAA numbers suggest, they need his rights in order to sign him. that would have given the Hurricanes some leverage in trade negotiations.

3rd pick overall
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>If you're abiding by McKenzie's list, which the top-15 was just updated for the draft lottery, Podkolzin <strong>is</strong> the BPA at 3rd overall. The kid is a legitimate talent, and given the proper time to develop, will easily be a top-line winger for whichever team drafts him. His two-way game is phenomenal, his scoring ability even more so. The fact that he's Russian is insignificant. If the Sabres' management subscribes to Don Cherry's "Russians are problematic payers" philosophies, I'd hope the Pegulas are in the market for new management.</div></div>
No, no, we have had some talented Russians here- mogilny was great for a few seasons, and zhitnik was a solid defender for several years. I think the concern is that we aren't a cosmopolitan metropolis with a large Russian presence, and we don't have a winning hockey culture currently. We aren't in a great spot to draft a kid that is gonna want out the minute he gets here. I'm sure it's been discussed internally, if we wants to play here I'm all for it.

People on this site seem to skip over term in trade values. Personally I think Risto could be very good in the right role. Sabres are rolling the dice on being able to re sign Trouba.
I think the more realistic trade would be a conditional pick going back to the jets if he re signs.

I have to agree
I have been looking for anything about AA on the market the only thing I can find is this article and if you read the whole it ends with a Darren Dreger saying AA for sure isn't on the market. Here is the link to the article.
<a href="https://oilonwhyte.com/2018/11/18/edmonton-oilers-holiday-gift-guide/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://oilonwhyte.com/2018/11/18/edmonton-oilers-holiday-gift-guide/</a>
Here is the whole Article:
Edmonton Oilers: Word has it that they’re looking into acquiring one of the best skaters in the entire league. A player who currently plays for the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings have quite a few speedsters on their team from Dylan Larkin to Darren Helm, to Tyler Bertuzzi, but the man I’m talking about is Andreas Athanasiou.
Athanasiou Later
The Edmonton Oilers used to be a team known for being one of the best skating teams in the NHL and in recent years, thanks to Sir Chiarelli, they went away from that. It was a mistake, and now it looks like the brass in Edmonton are seeking a return to a familiar organizational build.
With Athanasiou, the Oilers would be getting one of the quickest players to play the game, and I think the assumed plan would be to put him on Connor McDavid‘s line. I would caution against that line of thinking though. In my opinion, McDavid doesn’t need a player who can skate with him on his line or else Taylor Hall would’ve spent more than a brief moment on his wing. He needs wingers who know where to go to receive a pass for a scoring chance, and he needs wingers who can boss the wall.
I think a speedy winger is more something that Leon Draisaitl needs. The big German who recently won the “Best Passer” event at the 2019 NHL All-Star Competition, loves to dish the puck and he thrives playing alongside Connor McDavid because he knows where to go on the ice to get the scoring change, right? He’s might also be the only guy in the league that can make a 100ft backhand saucer pass to a streaking winger.
Athanasiou makes is in the 1st year or a two-year contract that pays him $3M per season. This is a VERY affordable contract for the Oilers IF they can send some money back Detroit’s way. There’s a rumor out there that the Oilers have offered their 2019 1st round pick and Tobias Rieder ($2M/yr) for the Detroit winger, but TSN’s Darren Dreger has since poured cold water on any notion that Athanasiou is even available.
“His name crossed my desk last week, and I did some checking with my Red Wings sources. I was told, ‘No, no, no, no.’ Unless it’s one of those can’t miss opportunities, they see Athanasiou as being part of their future, that development of a younger core.”
To Conclude
I would love for the Edmonton Oilers to go out and grab this player, but as Dreger indicated above, he doesn’t seem to be available. That shouldn’t stop the Oilers from targeting the fastest players in the league like Athanasiou, Ryan Dzingel, or Kasperi Kapanen.
It’s a new day in Edmonton, but it’s time to go back to what made it work. Speed and hard work.
