<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kdp23</b></div><div>Just wondering your idea on where the devils are at and what you want them to do. Are you of the viewpoint that we aren’t competing for years to come so just move out all the veterans worth anything for picks? And then use all of those picks And see if any hit. don’t move any for nhl caliber players.</div></div>

It's a tough situation to be in. I am of the viewpoint that this team isn't going anywhere for at least another 2 years. Clearly we're going to have to be patient with Hughes, and I think 2 years from now he will be hitting his stride and living up to expectations as an electrifying franchise C (if not, the Devils have a serious problem). This team only goes as far as Hughes takes them imo. So they should be moving some of the older guys for picks, I don't think Palmieri fits the window, if you can move Subban for anything you do it. I would also be looking at moving on from Wood, Zacha, Butcher, maybe Severson, etc. simply to move in a new direction, these guys have been okay but certainly haven't become what most people were expecting.

There simply isn't enough high end talent on the roster / in the system and the best way to acquire it is through the draft, any drafted players in the next 2 years will also fit that same window as the rest of our young core. That said if you can add a young player with top 6 (F) or top 4 (D) potential that's cost controlled without giving up a ton then you've got to look at it. You need to have some talent around the young players to help them grow and develop but no I would not be moving picks and prospects for anybody over the age of 26.
