Hard pass from Vancouver on all of those. there is ZERO chance canucks trade QH (and 2 second rounders)especially for a 1 year rental(who wold be too expensive to resign even if he wanted too). why trade the guy that is playing well and has good chemistry with Horvat. then you want to trade our top goalie prospect who is probably going to transition into the #1 next year with markstroms contract up this year.
the canucks have been building the right way no need to panic and make a trade/s that would cripple the team for years after this.
as it its a couple of the contracts going out expire just in time for extending EP and QH. plus theres a expansion draft coming up so why trade young (good )players that don't need to be protected and weaken the team at the same time.
no thanks keep improving the right way

exactly. there is way to many draw backs to a trade like this
either scenario screws the team up for years. only arty57 would think this is a good idea

first the canucks get blasted for giving up a 1st round pick for miller then you think they should trade miller(who is playing well for them) and 2 top prospects plus a 1st and a 2nd for a 1 year rental. even if they could resign hall how much are they going to have to spend. even if they were to get him signed for 8m(highly unlikely) that doesn't leave a lot to resign EP and QH when they are due. this would seriously mess them up for years.
we would be in cap h@ll for years if they did this no thanks

neither team is going to do this. montreal isn't giving up drouin for Loui and roussell(they would want a bunch of other incentives to consider this). drouin wouldn't play on the top line he is too soft. they went out and got miller and ferland to give grit to the top 2 lines . that doesn't leave any room for drouin. plus there is less than a 5% chance that leivo clears waivers to be sent down. they might as well keep loui and send him down and maybe he gets mad enough to retire or lifts his no trade clause so they can ship him anywhere they want.

preseason tweaks
i agree we don't want sam g but we also want to trade some vets. this trade allows us to keep gaudette up as well as Edmonton gets 2 wingers and a defensive centre . that leave mcdavid and draisaitl together plus RNH with 2 of neal, sven or goldobin and the other can play with top line.
the players from Edmonton are just contracts to help even out the cap plus we can send them down with no fear of them getting claimed(even if they did all the better) and both their contracts expire this year

why trade pearson(who had good chemistry with horvat) while retaining just to sign goldobin (who had a hard time getting not the lineup) to only save $750k in salary . then to trade away beagle while giving up a pick when there is a good chance that sutter is going to either be traded or injured so then we don't have anybody besides horvat to take defensive zone faceoffs. horvats play dropped while sutter and beagle were hurt as he had to take every important face off. keep Beagle and Pearson trade Goldobin and maybe Baertschi and you can still send down Schaller and Eriksson to free up cap space and playing time for gaudette and roussell .

they are better off trading goldobin's rights and sending some guys like Schaller and eriksson down than to just trade pearson for cap space.

they don't own their picks needed for this. besides you do this then what happens when EP and QH come up for resigning. then the Canucks are in the same boat Toronto is now
get our own players signed
make a trade to get rid of Louie continue to take steps forward don't try and rush it and mess up the future

difference with Marleau is that Toronto didn't take any money back let alone give up a young fast prospect and a draft pick . and Eriksson helps Ottawa hit the cap floor too

would it work to expand the Edmonton trade to include gagner and sutter(with or without the pick your thoughts). Edmonton can go mcdavid RNH and sutter down the middle SB and AA as wingers with RNH gives them solid top 2 lines and a good 3rdline /faceoff centre
if it takes a 2nd to make the Ottawa trade work we could swap out the 3rd from van and put Toronto's 2nd in

yes I am a Canucks fan .I thought it might be light on our return from Edmonton but we have too many forwards and both Edmonton's d-men's contracts run out in the next 2 years when we need to resign EP and QH. and I feel we win the Ottawa trade getting out from under the LE contract so we cant expect to win all of them

CAP TROUBLE
when pettersson and hughes are due for resigning (the end of the 20-21season) the canucks have over 20m coming off the cap from the expiring contracts of pearson, sutter, baertschi, edler, benn, spooner(buyout) goldobin (4m)is probably gone(with picks to help get rid of Eriksson's contract) they have draft picks/prospects(Podkolzin) ready to fill some of the holes created by the expiring contracts . they are not going to sign markstrom for that much so they can save another 4-5m signing a veteran back up(like Edmonton did with smith) both beagle and roussel's ntc are 5 team after that season so a lot easier to trade if needed. not as dire as you made it out to be for sure

Van city
even with the cap savings it should be a hard no from Vancouver. Lucic contract runs an extra year than LE and has to be protected for the Seattle expansion draft. so that means probably losing a young player and paying longer no thanks. only way would to be to add more assets in favour of Vancouver(like a first and another you prospect) and then maybe Vancouver buys him out just before the expansion draft
at this point Edmonton wins this trade be to much to work

Canucks team UFA edition
canucks are left with just about no cap room. not even enough to call Spooner up if there's an injury. plus how can Roussel be on LTIR there's no guarantee he is out for the season if he isn't on LTIR then we are over the cap. why bother buying LOUI out now just to save less than 500k and tie up cap space for 6 years. why not pay his signing bonus after july1st and then trade him to an Ottawa or Arizona (and yes I get we will have to give up a pick or young player ) and actually get rid of his salary. he wants out so he is going to have to accept a trade somewhere or retire and go back to Sweden. either way its a win for the canucks.
now isn't the time to spend to the cap.

OK vutures time to scorn
why would the Canucks take on an extra year for Lucic who has a NMC and would have to be protected at the expansion draft to just move up 2 spots(and risk losing a young player to expansion). If they are going to trade for Zaitsev and that term they could retain on Tanev and ask for Kapanen or Johnsson . We don't need both Edler ,and Gardiner at that $$ and term. doesn't leave a lot to resign our RFA's like Pettersson and Hughes. They are building through the draft so it doesn't make sense to over spend on 3 defenseman and take on 2 bad contracts. Plus how do you know that Roussel is going to be on LTIR if not then we would be over the cap . Do the leafs trade while retaining on Tanev(maybe even throw in Goldobin's rights). forget about Gardiner and Myers. hard no on the Edmonton trade better off dumping Eriksson to Ottawa and throwing in the 2020 2nd rd pick that we would have had to give up with the offer sheet. Now is not the time to spend all of our cap space.

Offersheet - a much different approach
talk about a brutal idea. if you pay Tkachuk that for one year what do you do when he hits rfa the next year again. what are you going to pay EP when he gets there. to give up so many draft picks for one player while putting us in cap hell is the type of move that cripples a team for a long time. if your going to throw that type of money there are cheaper options that wont cost you the draft picks as well like Duchene or pavelski.

It makes no sense to keep going after guys like panarin . especially at that cap hit. if you pay him that much how much do you pay pettersson in 2 years when his contract is due. or the fact that we only have 43m to resign him and the complete d core july 2021
we need to be patient . sign some mid level guys nothing crazy in dollar or term. as BCAPP said we are not on the cusp of contending .lets have a good draft again this year(maybe even have some luck with the pingpong balls) maybe trade a couple RFA's to clear up roster space. but now is not the time to dip into the deep end of the free agency

wow
I hope your ok with not being able to resign pettersson or hughes or juolevi since you haven't left enough room to come close to resigning them you would be lucky to have enough for pettersson.this is how we get into long term trouble with over priced long term contracts for free agents, josi would be a nice sign but the other two big ones not so much plus to have over 6m in buyouts that would be brutal

make some moves by the tdl
don't want Elliot hes just an expiring contract and reason for philly to give up the 3rd round pick( maybe should have put it as a 2nd rd) Anderson is to help ease demko in for another year than his contract expires too handing the crease to demko. helping give us more cap space to resign all the young rfa's we will have . plus if we maybe lose a couple more close games this year and get a pick inside the top 10(preferably top 5 we have to be do for some draft luck) sets us up to keep adding pieces

omg arty57 is that you
you could do this for every team in the league no team is a 100% in drafting . I mean how did every team from 3rd-14th in 2008 not take karlsson is everyone of those gm stupid or something. every team makes mistakes it just sucks that for a few years so many picks were traded for playoff help.
and there isn't anyway you can say that if we had drafted some of these players that they would have drafted in the same spot the next years. then again our gm seemed to know something what it came to drafting pettersson as he looks like he's going to be the best from that year.

no chance they do any of these trades
they are rebuilding . don't need rentals and no chance they give up their first rounder in 2019 and lose a chance at drafting jack hughes.
they will trade vets at the tdl and get more picks since they are hosting the draft and continue to stock pile the prospects for at least one more year before going for the playoffs

i never said it wasn't going to cost the oilers. but as I said on the canucks side of the trade
Edmonton is desperate for defence since sekera went down as well they are going to be in cap trouble real soon. they don't have enough room to sign nurse as it is. and after last year they are desperate to make the playoffs and hopefully have a deep run. what would you give up for 2 top 4 defensemen and a good 3rd line centre(to replace rnh) and speedy winger that can play on mcdavids wing and cap space.
