At least your team won a couple in the conference finals! And still final 4, pretty amazing to finally have that at least after years of top picks not getting anywhere yet. Trust me I would know with the team I cheer for! And your team's rebuild was much much better done. Should be a great few years for the Rangers coming up.

There’s probably 30 other fanbases that wants your situation? Tough to lose in semis and have to watch finals and not be there, but always next year.

Thread:
if I could get a do over
Realistically, the biggest thing the Rangers shouldn't have done is signed Kreider. I like him, he's a good player, but he's not an elite player, and when players like Kaapo and Lafreniere are coming into their prime he's going to be exiting his. Buchnevich's fate was pretty much sealed when they signed Kreider, cap space wise, even if they never won that draft lottery they wouldn't have had the cap space to keep both. By trading Kreider at the deadline when his last contract was up, they could have gotten an extra pick and prospect along with a first. Tons of Blues fans were pushing for Kyrou and a 1st for Kreider (a very funny proposal in hindsight). The Blues are (usually) smarter than blues fans but can you imagine Kyrou AND Buchnevich on this Rangers team?
Trouba was overpayed on day one and they fell into the classic "well we just traded for you so now we'd better give you all the money in the world" trap, but I think he's a lot better than people give him credit for and it's mostly fair to give them a mulligan not knowing that Fox and possibly Lundvist would pan out like they would.
The Georgiev thing was always weird, he clearly has starter aspirations and clearly is never going to get that opportunity in New York, they should have traded him at his highest value a few years back when the Leafs were desperate for a backup goalie and were willing to pay top dollar. Then they could have not bought out Hank like cowards.
And yeah, the Rangers should have chosen Eichel over Zib, for similar reasons to Buchnevich over Kreider- Eichel is the better player and he fits their window a lot clearer than Zibanejad. Elite players tend to age okay, which is why signing Panarin was obviously a good move and why the Zib thing will probably be fine but if it's between the two, no matter how you feel on Zib, Eichel is the better bet, even with his health in question.

Asking for Trade Value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lamar1226</b></div><div>What about a player like Buchnevich? Much younger and better point producer. Also an RFA</div></div>
I certainly would be interested in buchnevich, my concern at that point would be the cap. He’s earned a raise for sure, but foligno is locked in for 3 years. Buchnevich would be added to a top 6 that looks like kk, rossi, fiala, boldy, Zuccarello, which is pretty solid. He would likely bump zuccarello or giveboldy more time. The issue on top of the cap is foligno being a beast of a shutdown player who can also score pretty well for his supposed skill. He’s exactly what any cup contender wants in a 3rd line player, big strong, skilled smart and hard as hell to play against. That’s why the wild would be loathsome to move him. I think you’d have a much better deal looking for a greenway/buchnevich type trade. You’d still get a hulking strong player who’s younger and on a better contract but would be a good swap for the rangers and wild. Wild get a bit more skill and scoring, the rangers get a huge physical presence that can play up and down. Just my humble opinion.

Yeah- not worth the 8M cap hit which will not go away...but the last 3 years he’s owed 20M...as his contract gets to its later years NYR might become willing to retain salary- which would lower the cap hit...assuming he can play- another team might be willing to pay him 10m over 3 years- with a 4m cap hit.

(Just my opinion) Stanley will probably make 1-2M for a few years, MacEwen will probably be around 1-1.5, Foligno around 2-3M

I don't think the Chytl/1st gets it done either...and forget that Strome offer. But each of these guys (or both) in a package between TBL and NYR could benefit both...so what's your counter? And if you don't like these players- there are a bunch more to pick from...what do you think?

Trading the future for now
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shakabakes</b></div><div>Regular Season has never been the issue. We'll see how they look when the Playoffs hit.</div></div>
Lets just look at the past 4 years shall we?
First year no one even expected them to make the playoffs. It was good that they didn't get swept.
Second and third years they weren't the favourites, Boston was.
4th year was certainly inexcusable. They sucked that year. But every team that is one of the nhl's best has disappointed one year or another come playoff time. The caps constantly lost to Pittsburg before finally beating them and winning the cup. St Louis was last in the league, then they won the cup. Tampa got swept round one and next year won it all.
This year the leafs are first in the North. They will likely have to play the oilers, flames or habs in round one. They are clearly better than all those teams. They will make it past round one, just wait and see.

No shot we get both, its one or the other.
Cirelli isnt worth 6m per. At this stage in his career hes worth around 4.5m, if he gets the point output higher then yea.
Sergachev isnt worth 6m either, he will probably get a contract similar to DeAngelo.

I love serg but cirelli isn’t worth 6 mil per he’s put put 40 points on a stacked lighting team playing with star players and yes he’s great defensively but he’s a boarderline 2/3 C and I’d rather just let chytil whos 21 develop into that spot. Serg is the guy I’d go after

And every sane Oilers fan should continue to deny this request until the heat death of the universe.
Puljujarvi abdicated Edmonton because of a toxic management, and only considered returning because the environment changed. Lias just isn't good enough to play in the NHL: instead of growing through the AHL, he buggered off to Sweden.
I know the kid felt homesick and all too, and I genuinely feel for him and hope he's doing better, but that should never be a deal Edmonton considers.

Draft Trade Down
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CharlieComp88</b></div><div>rule no 1. never trade the no 1 prospect in the world. not for ur 3 and 5 and more. u take the no1 and u run with it.</div></div>
That's not always accurate.
- 2011 Nugent-Hopkins was the #1, #3 was Huberdeau and #5 was Ryan Strome. It's close, but then consider 6-10 picks were Zibanejad, Scheifele, Couterier and Hamilton.
- 2012 Yakupov was the consensus #1, Edmonton would've been better off trading that pick for Galchenyuk and Rielly.
- 2014 Ekblad was the #1, would you rather have him or Draisaitl (#3) and Dal Colle (#5)? William Nylander was 8 and Ehlers 9, that might be like Holtz and Raymond of the 2020 draft.
- 2017 Hischier at #1 pales in comparison to the #3 and 5 picks: Heiskanen and Pettersson.
- 2019 its early yet, but would you rather have Jack Hughes (#1) or Kirby Dach (#3) and Alex Turcotte (#5)? I know I'd rather the second option.
Unless there's a generational talent available, trading down from #1 could be a very sound strategy. Even an elite talent like Matthews in 2016 could be argued against PLD (#3) and Matthew Tkachuk (#6), or MacKinnon in 2013 vs Seth Jones (#4) and Monahan (#6). It's not as clear-cut as you seem to think.
