Why would you get hate for that? Andersen leaving has been anticipated for a while now for the exact reasons you mentioned.
Also, if Seattle wanted to claim Hyman they're allowed to work out a deal with him beforehand. Obviously he's not obligated to negotiate with them, but just because he's a UFA doesn't mean there's no chance of losing him to Seattle.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>leaflet</b></div><div>The only excuse I can think of to let him sit is if he's not reliable in his zone. But it's not the case according to scouts.
From the Hockey Writers: "his defensive game is very underrated. He’s a reliable defensive presence in his own end. He averages 1:11 on the penalty kill and spends 8:29 per game in the defensive zone. (...)"
Inexplicable decision to leave him off the team.</div></div>
They need him to get used to the smaller sized rinks as it can make a big difference. Should see him play by game 5

Opening Night Lines and 5 Random Predictions for the Season
This is far more than 5 predictions and good on you for making them and putting them out there:
Prediction 1a: Kerfoot becomes a very reliable, cost-effective 3C, and Leaf fans are are gonna be really happy he stayed while Johnsson and Kapanen left. (I view this as likely)
Prediction 1b: He puts up 35 points while playing really well defensively. (unlikely to hit 35 points)
Prediction 2a: The TJ Brodie contracts starts to not look very good as he struggles to fit in, ending up on the 3rd pairing. (unlikely, but plausible)
Prediction 2b: At the same time, Travis Dermott quickly becomes the team's 3rd best D-man, and plays on the top pair with Reilly. (unlikely)
Prediction 3a: The Thornton experiment doesn't work out all that great, and he becomes a Spezza-like utility piece on the 3rd/4th lines. (likely)
Prediction 3b: At the same time, Barbanov is Mikheyev 2.0 and floats in and out of the top 6. (unlikely)
Prediction 4b: Vesey and Lehtonen are not on the team by the trade deadline. (unlikely)
Prediction 5: With a congested schedule, Jack Campbell plays about 40% of the games and puts up better numbers than Andersen, giving Keefe a really difficult decision for the playoffs. (unlikely)
Prediction 6: Leafs finish 1st in their division with final standings being: Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary, Ottawa (unlikely they finish first. I think that Montreal and Calgary finish ahead of where you have them.)

Even LEAFS fan sites admit marner is overpaid. This isn’t a debatable fact. I never said he was a bad player. He’s a very good player and probably a top 10 winger in this league. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s overpaid, and leafs have 4 guys who make over $40 million. The leafs will have some tough decisions to make in the future. Sorry to bruise your ego or disappoint you over your man crush marner, but facts don’t care about your feelings

Brutal trade for the Leafs. Not much difference between the current editions Nylander and Laine. Years of control are the same. To think the Leafs have to give a 20 minute RHD and two picks?

Muzzin has a large cap hit because he is a very good hockey player. Easily our best defensive defenceman. Even if Sandin takes his spot in the top 4 somehow and we can't afford him someone would pay at least a couple picks and a prospect for him

Cody Ceci is a good defenseman. Is he a top 4 guy? No. Is he worth his previous contract? No. But as a 3rd pairing guy (or an extra) he's a useful player. 1.25M is reasonable.

Actually with the right development (still got time as he is young) Joey could become a similar player to Coleman which is something we need. TML draft class since Dubarelli in charge
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>awsomemathews</b></div><div>Neither do midgets</div></div>
You don't draft gritty players. Look at the Lightning. They drafted strictly by talent and then through free agency and trades brought in bigger and more rough players (Maroon, Goodrow, Bogosian, etc). Biggest story of the playoffs is how stupid every GM was for passing on Brayden Point at the draft. The NHL isn't about big zero-talent players that can hit; its about fast, high IQ, and skillful players that can produce. Always draft on talent, then bring in the bottom six plugs in free agency to beat up the other teams stars.

What does everyone think of the Draft
15 - Amirov (F) <-- Potential to become Kucherov with proper development and patience
59 - Hirvonen (F) <-- Potential to become Cirelli as he plays a very similar game
64 - Niemela (D) <--- Plays a very similar game to Letang as both use similar moves
106 - Akhtyamov (G) <--- This guy could very big for us and could become big like Samsonov/Shesterkin/Sorokin. Cant wait to see him in WJC
122 - Villeneuve (D) <--- Faulk like and with a defensive Dman can be similar to Klingberg
137 - Ovchinnikov (F) <-- With the right development could become a russian Hyman
168 - Miettinen (F) <--- Potential steal plays similar to Turris
177 - Rindell (D) <---- Reminds me of young morgan rielly
180 - Miller (F) <--- Small but skilled and another potential steal. Could develop similar to Conolly
189 - Fusco (D) <--- Kid plays a good 2-way game and university should help him. Potential to become similar to Parayko but needs to put on some size.
195 - Schingoethe (F) <--- Kid plays like Hyman and honestly should Hyman ever retire and this kid develops properly were set
213 - Tverberg (F) <--- A project but has the makings to be like Levio. Just needs to work on his stick handling and not take so many dumb penalties.
Also fun note
Leafs now have
KHL Dman of the year
QMJHL Dman of the year finalist
OHL Dman of the year
WJC best Dman of the tourney
Oh, Muzzin and Rielly too.

If you're asking who I think they should take, then Byfield. If you're asking who I think they will take, then Stutzle. Either would be an acceptable option. If they take someone else (unless it's Lafreniere by some miracle), I have my torch and pitchfork ready.

Before play resumed, Rob Blake was quoted as saying that the Kings might be looking for a short-term (1 or 2 years left on his contract) veteran LD to provide some stability on that side, hence all the Nick Leddy and Marc Staal trades you might have seen. Unless someone comes up with an offer we can't refuse, I doubt that we trade either Sean Walker or Matt Roy.

Canes decline. Both players are probably worth a 2nd each imo, maybe add another pick on Anderson. Don’t think Johnsson is a guy that really interests the canes. I think the canes would make a move for Anderson but not at the cost of a 1st

I bet you're right -- Askarov gets picked with the 13th overall. And I'll also bet it won't belong to you.
Roy is one of only 3 defensemen we have on the right side who's NHL-capable, and we have no one to promote from within, so trading him would just mean we'd have to go out and sign a free-agent RD. On the other side, we have Michael Anderson, Tobias Bjornfot and Kale Clague trying to break in to the League, so Dermott isn't the sort of guy we want to acquire.
