Devils get the better player for sure, but Leafs needed that cap space so a bit of a wash maybe?

I was thinking they'd trade Ny for cap instead of sacrificing depth. They didn't. They're front-forward now; if any one of Tavares, Matthews, Nylander or Marner has a bad year/gets injured, it's over.

Think the main thing Toronto got was cap space from this trade. Though I think you could’ve gotten at least a third for Johnsson.

Considering what a cap dump these days has been costing teams, this was to be expected. A win for NJ for sure, but not a bad trade for the Leafs. From what little I've read on the guy we got he's a decent prospect, likely an NHL depth player. I'm cool with this.

For NJ fans, Mango is a huge bounceback candidate. You'll love him.

You have to view this as part of the T.J. Brodie signing cost

This deal is fantastic because now we won't see Johnsson ACGMs anymore. Dermott next please!

I don't like this trade. No matter what you think of the player the leafs could have gotten more last year before his injures and probably would have gotten more next off season too. With that being said, leafs needed the cap space in a offseasonn where all teams are trying to clear cap. Is Kerfoot next?

Leafs fans, don't underestimate Joey Anderson. He's an NHL player. He brings solid all-around play to their bottom six. He's definitely limited offensively, but he does a ton of little things well and he's a leader and super competitive. TOR also gets much needed cap space. This trade is a Win-Win for both teams.

the leafs were never getting more. Not this year, not next year, not if he wasn't injured, not ever.

Again. What do the islanders have any sort of relevance to this trade and or the teams involved?

Not sure if I prefer a player return over a pick.

Still, necessary trade.
