A Most Bodacious Trade
I'd throw Johnsson or Kerfoot into that Chicago trade and then use that money and the Crawford allotment to sign Jacob Markstrom. But that, as a very highly respected colleague said today, would be in a perfect world.

Why bridge Mathews if the hit is like 500k less? I’d say 9.5 for AM and 7.5 Mitch.

what would you do with the 15th pick
if i keep the pick, hope Lundell falls to 15, if he doesnt then Quinn.
if there is a top 5ish guy who is plumeting like Barzal (see Rossi in some mocks) i try to trade up for them, and since it's a deep draft and more than a few GM's will be eyeing up trade down for asset deals that should be not too hard
if there is no falling player, and i want to trade back, i aim for the 20th or so pick and try to get Jarvis or Ghule and another 2nd or something

- 2020 1st round pick (15th overall)
- 2018 2nd round pick (Filip Hallander - who is developing nicely)
- Evan Rodrigues (expiring RFA centermen)

Fire Dubas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>You can certainly do a lot worse with GM's. Take it from a fan who saw Fenton trade Nino for Rask, Coyle for Donato and a very late pick, and while Fiala for Granlund looks like a home run trade for us, at the time Granny was a 2-time 60+ point winger and Fiala had not had a single season scoring more than 48 points and was coming off a major leg injury. Oh and he signed Zuccarello to a $30M deal over 5 years and gave him a NMC. Toronto fans of all fan bases should know it could be <em>a lot</em> worse.
Dubas managed to keep 3 supremely talented forwards and signed a #1 center in free agency which almost never happens in the NHL. Does he have more work to do? Certainly, but he's not as bad of a GM as some fans on here make him out to be.</div></div>
Dubas in general has only been gm for 3 years and while one of his trades (kadri) wasnt that great due to Babcocks interference he has done alot of good for this team. His FA signings and ability to grab overseas talent is amazing. His ability to find steals in later rounds of the draft (Robertson) is solid. Only other issue is his contracts of Matthews and Marner being bad. But he has improved as shown with the engvall and holl contracts.
I say give him a year or two and now that he knows the issue he should make moves to help improve our blue line or just help our team in general become more defensive without sacrificing to much of the offense.

Such a joke of a opinion though ....
<strong>Pittsburgh just traded this for Zucker: </strong>
- 1st round pick
- 2nd round pick
- Alex Galchenyuk
<strong>Jason Zucker is currently:</strong>
- A 28 year old borderline top-six forward
- A .53 point per game player over his career
- A 43 point per 82 game player over his career
- Signed at $5,500,000 x 4 years (after his prime)
- Not young enough to expect any improvement
<strong>Kaspari Kapanen is currently:</strong>
- A 23 year old borderline top-six forward
- A .55 point per game player over 2 full seasons
- A 45 point per 82 game player over 2 full seasons
- Signed at $3,200,000 x 3 years (entering his prime)
- Young enough to expect measurable improvement
- Already a penalty killer than Zucker (defender too)
- Still an RFA when his contract expires
<strong>I'll even digress and say Zucker slightly better today ... Kapanen:</strong>
- Is much younger (4.5 years)
- Is much cheaper ($2.3 million)
- Has much more potential to improve.
- Has much less age related regression risk.
- Should easily surpass Zucker during their deals.

Big moves incoming
As much as we all wish Marner made ~9.5M, him, Hyman and Matthews is an explosive line and he shouldn't be moved at a discount.
Dermotts been playing unbelievable and whatever the return is wont be worth it.
Kerfoot is finally playing like the centre we thought he'd be.
Personally, Kapanens been a disappointment so far this post season

Lets Have An Honest And Objective Discussion About Mitch Marner
I wouldn't mind trading Marner if the right trade came along. But your trade suggestion is horrid. Hornquist and Johnson take up about 9m in bad cap.
Leafs would trade Marner for futures....and get some cap relief or trade for a 10m quality player(s).

To Sheldon Keefe Put In Engvall Not GOAT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>A solid argument if you ask me. Not that I dislike the goat at all, but I think I would rather see Clifford spezza and engvall together.</div></div>
Gauthier should stay in the line-up as he is the superior shutdown center that the Leafs need for the playoffs. Goat is getting better and better and if he starts using his size more he can be dominant in his role. Engvall really tailed off this year after a hot start and seems to be struggling where as Goat is getting stronger. I am actually okay with shifting Spezza out of the line up and have a fourth line of Goat, Clifford and Engvall and I think this would be a great shut down fourth line.

How does DeMelo return a 3rd and Savard returns a 1st and a prospect? What?
Savard is so pumped up on this site. He's just a 2nd pairing D man with above average defense and below average offense.
When was the last time a D man got traded for a 1st and a prospect?

If Nylander ever goes (he shouldn't), a player with a similar elite potential must come back the other way. No more Kessel trades.
And there's a lot of uncertainty about whether the two prospects Boqvist and Foote will stay in the NHL. The 1st round pick is interesting, but not what the Leafs need in the short term.
Meanwhile, the Devils really need to keep these prospects more than the Leafs.</div></div>

The organization will figure things out. No-one expected a flat cap for multiple seasons but, they have the brainpower in place to adjust accordingly.
What you have here isn't good for the Leafs or the direction they have chosen and I think you are off on signing numbers anyways.</div></div>
That’s exactly what the Leafs should be pursuing. In 2 years, this team will be ridiculous and won’t be super tight on cap. Maybe instead of Demelo sign a guy for 2 years at 4-4.5 mill and you’ll be able to afford Rielly, Andersen

And that’s precisely the issue with the Leafs, they’re so stubborn with their big four it isn’t normal that 4 forwards take 38 ish millions of cap space, unless their names are Crosby, McDavid, MacKinnon and Matthews
