I think this is why Dubas wanted that pick.

Would be sort of funny if that Pens pick ended up in Minnesota.

Then they'd have both 2020 and 2021 PIT picks.

They already tried to get Dumba but didn't have a first. That's why I went back to it. Plus he's a big D who lands big hits and is more of a Muzzin than a Reilly. He's exactly what they need.

He was rumored but nothing more. Same with Manson. Same with Larsson. Dubas wasn't interested in the end. Parayko thought would be perfect and with the blues wanting to resign pitrangelo I could see a deal

Friedman touched on it a few times mentioning that he was almost positive the Leafs wanted Dumba. Hate him all you want he actually has inside info.

You obviously have not seen him play. He is like a right handed Reilly- offense first, who hits a bit. Nothing like Jake Muzzin- which is what the leafs need more of especially with Reilly. You must be thinking of Brodin who is the dman that plays defensively. Also, you literally might have not seen Dumba. He's 6feet, 180.

I have heard rumours that the Leafs are not just looking to add just one right-shot defenseman, but two. Would it be possible that they add Dumba and still add that shutdown player, too?

Personally, I like Dumba, and I think he would help (anything would help). Adding a right-shot, defensive defenseman would also help. Tough to keep Liljegren down again, but if it's best for his development than so be it.

Dumba doesn't have good underlying numbers. With the team's reliance on advanced stats, I doubt he's ever been a priority target. Probably even less after the Barrie experience.

He threw some hits for Team Canada 10 yrs ago and some Dion Phaneuf rep has followed him around ever since.

Hes both smaller and hits less than Dermott.

Dermott >>>>>> Dumba when Dermott signs for 4 times less than him as far as fit on Leafs.

And Russo has reported there were conversations on the Wild's side from Toronto regarding Dumba. No one is more plugged into the Wild than Russo. Hate Dumba all you want, the Leafs were interested.

I don't like the idea of trading Dumba or Brodin without getting a top 6 center back but this would be worth it imo. Kerfoot likely isn't more than a 3C but Dermott is useful and 15th overall could be used with the 9th overall to try to move up. I think the Wild add something though, maybe a prospect the Leafs might be able to use like Belpedio.

I really think if the Leafs want Dumba the price will be Nylander. Whether they pay that or not is up to their discretion. I'm just worried we trade Dumba for another wing when we have a glaring need at center.

I actually don't think Dumba will be traded and MN will run Brodin/Dumba as their 1st pair next year. Hooray for a $15m 2nd pair in Suter/Spurgeon. Very Angry

But then you run the risk of signing Brodin and losing Dumba to expansion or having Brodin walking in free agency. I guess we could protect 8 skaters and go with Parise, Zucc, Fiala, and Ek... Look on the bright side: at least we didn't sign Erik Karlsson or Drew Doughty for $11M (I'd gladly take Spurgeon over both).

Play the season out, what happens with the expansion draft happens. If MN is in the Playoffs at the TDL keep Brodin and if he walks after the season, he walks. If they poop the bed then trade him as a rental.

I'd rather have the one last year of Brodin rather than overpaying a Strome or Domi on their next contracts. I'm still hoping they can find a way to dump Spurgeon somewhere.

Guys on here would insist that Auston Matthews is a stay at home defenceman who can't score and McDavid is a third line D-man who's a pilon. I remember guys saying Muzzin was an offensive D who's **** in his own end.

There was no indication on specific names the Wild wanted but the indication was that they were interested in one of the third line guys, a Dman and a first. That was supposed to be the ask according to Friedman. They couldn't get it done because the Leafs didn't have their first and Minnesota wasn't budging on the ask.

I doubt the Wild make the deal but I'd 100% back it as a leaf fan. Rielly is competent enough to pair with Holl (he had a great season paired with a simple defender like Hainsey) and Muzz/Dumba pairing would be a fun shutdown unit.

IMO, Dermott and Kerfoot are likely on their way out. Kyle seems to want the bottom 6 all under $3m and the left side of the D makes more sense with Morgan, Muzz and Sandin than giving Dermott a raise and trying to push him to the right side.

Thanks, I find it interesting that both Oilers fans and Wild fans think the trade is reasonable so any hesitation is on the willingness to trade Dumba. I don't know where the wild is at but if they were willing before they might be now. I'm thinking They have a player they want from the draft that should be available around there. If that's the case I think they do the deal. Dumba out and a protected prospect in makes sense for the expansion draft. From Dubas perspective it doesn't matter if it falls through or not, he's still got a 3rd line winger and now the pick plus a prospect.
