But it's so much fun! smile

Ya fair enough, I can see both players helping them out a lot in the future. Maybe no 4th and it's closer. Detroit has a lot of work to do! That is for sure.

The problem is the expansion draft right around the corner they’d be left exposed. That second rounder is 32OV in a deep draft. Johnsson has knee issues and plays with some great players already so I’m not buying if he progresses argument. If you switch him with Kapanen I think the deal would be closer but Toronto fans won’t like that.

laugh laugh What a joke, Johnsson and Dermott aren't worth a 2nd a 3rd and a 4th round pick. Especially one that's like a late 1st Detroit declines LOL.

Nope canes do. I would say that is about the value. I don’t think canes want to move Pesce, and Toronto is definitely not moving nylander.

A trade around Kapanen for Pesce is good value for both teams, and both should accept. Nylander is out of the question - not going to happen.

Carolina aren't adding. Pesce has a better impact on the ice than Nylander does. Pesce's deal is better, and frankly Toronto's need for D is greater than Carolina's need for a 2nd line RW considering we have Necas

Kapanen for Pesce? Unless you're adding multiple 1sts to Kapanen, Canes laugh you away. Pesce is BRUTALLY underrated

Andreas Johnsson has been brittle. First it was his ankle then it was knee surgery. His value is so up in the air that I doubt any team takes on that risk. Travis Dermott is a #4,5 d-man with speed. Looking at the Wings defensive prospects you see they already have their defensive core set (Hronek, Seider, McIsaac/Cholowski, Gustav Lindstrom, possibly Drysdale, and 2 more years of Danny DeKeyser) and have recently draft d-men in the 2nd round (2019 #35 Antti Tuomisto and #60 Albert Johansson plus 2017 #71 Kasper Kotkansalo). I think they would rather look to a veteran UFA like Krug to round out that roster.

Maybe if you moved from Detroit's #32 pick to their pick from Washington or Edmonton it would strike me as better.

I think everyone looks at Detroit and doesn't realize how young their good players are. Dylan Larkin seems like he's been in the NHL forever--he's 23 (for a few more days), Hronek already playing on the top pair is 22. Zadina and Veleno are 20. Seider is 19. Mantha and Bertuzzi are 25. Fabbri is 24. That's the top 2 lines basically and the top pair. Oh and they have 35M in cap room this offseason and only have 5 contracts on the books in 21-22 (with 2 of those being aging veteran contracts that will provide more cap relief when done) so they can spend when they need to when other teams will be forced to jettison young talent (like Tampa). Add in the top 4 pick this year and probably again next year and Detroit will be much more competitive than people realize. Just like Colorado and LA will be a force for years to come out West.

Leaf fans might hail Dubas as this great GM, but I think deep down they'd even admit would trust Yzerman a hole lot more. Dubas bet on a rising cap and signed 4 players to massive contracts that will cripple the organization now that the NHL will have a flat cap for a while....it's a reality this thread all but ignores.

Brett Pesce 2nd pair RHD plays behind Hamilton - reasonable contract , dangerously overvalued by Cane fans. Did I miss anything?

Brett Pesce, 9th best RHD in the league. Dangerously underrated by dumb people, STEAL of a deal. Best defensive D man in hockey. Has a better on ice impact than Nylander.

Brittle? Had an unlucky season for sure. Got blasted with a shot and broke his leg and then had an awkward collision. Injuries happen. I certainly wouldn’t call him brittle.
