Why make a trade just to make a trade? I doubt he was being offered significant pieces for the players you mentioned and at that point why trade them. This team will belly out on its own. Let the ship sink naturally with the gaping hole it has, there's no use in shooting a couple bb's in the hull cause it's going down anyways.

So any GM that takes the Wild job just has one strike against him immediately? Would you just rather not have a GM? Or did you just want to have a catchy three strikes thing even though you couldn't think of three bad things he's done?
The Spurgeon deal is good. He's not declining yet, and he plays a style that will age well, we see tons of defensemen who can play well into their thirties as long as they don't rely heavily on speed or physicality, neither of which Spurgeon does. If you trade Staal, JEEK becomes your top line center next year. For what- a second round pick, maybe? Galchenyuk- who wants the guy who has been traded three times in the last 1.5 years and performed worse in each place?
Standing pat today was the smartest thing for him to do. Other than July 1st, this is the day teams screw themselves up the most. The fact that there's any hope of getting rid of the Parise contract early should have you ecstatic.

Brodin is a player every team has atleast 1 of and about the easiest to find in the draft a LHD who blocks shots and puts up 15-20 points at 20 -21 minutes on ice . Throw a stone and you'll hit a dozen players like this .
MTL signed one for 3.5m because WPG who had the cap after their dcore blew up but chose not to pay him because they felt they had more guys like him in their depth charts who could step up .</div></div>
Are you actually dumb enough to compare Jonas Brodin with Ben Chiarot??? You need to study up, or go away forever!

Yeah it's a tough decision. Personally, I'm not solf on Korpisalo right now, just too small of a sample size to think he's going to be a lights out starter, which is what Bob is. On the other hand, you're right that there will be cap issues. Bob's pay raise will likely be in the ballpark of 9-10mil. Lots of tough decisions to make for Columbus for sure.

Duchene and moving Bob to CAR: Does this get Panarin to stay?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>I'm just not a huge fan of Duchene. I think Wennberg could easily turn out to be better than him.</div></div>
I agree with you that it would be a good deal for the Sens, but disagree that Wennberg "could easily turn out to be better than him" Duchene is a former 3rd overall pick and Olympic gold medallist. People tend to forget how good he is since he played on an atrocious Avalanche team two years ago and struggled for half this year with the Sens. I would not be surprised if he puts up a nice 25g,35a this year. Wennberg put up 13g, 46a in his best season, and is only 3 years younger than Duchene. There's absolutely no basis to think Wennberg has been, or ever will be, a better player than Duchene.
That being said, getting a first round pick, young playmaker and first round pick two years ago sounds great to me as an Ottawa fan That Duchene trade will haunt us for years if he doesn't resign, and this would definitely soften the blow. However, I do think Columbus ends up with a very good player out of this too that would also allow for PLD to play a bit more favorable minutes instead of taking on first line responsibilities as a 20 yr old. Plus, maybe all Panarin needs to be convinced is that there is a chance of winning and the team is trying to build up around him. If that's the case though, you won't want to be getting rid of Bob. Even if he has underwhelmed in the playoffs, CBJ isn't half the team they are without him.

Kessel to Minny (MN perspective)
Kessel's shot is the only thing that gives him the label shooter. I always thought the same thing until I had the privilege of watching him play every night. He is an unbelievable playmaker with a gifted touch as a passer. That's why he works with Geno and not Sid. If I'm Minnesota I look at a line with him Parise (net driver) and Grandlund as a very scary thing. Plus having a RH shot on the power play that is littered with lefties isn't a bad thing either.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>marmon725</b></div><div>As I said, I don't think the fit is there with a lack of a true distribute on MN's end outside of granlund who plays his position. I just did the reverse of another trade. If they did go for it a hockey trade makes more sense. Potentially even Granlund.</div></div>
I would think that Minnesota is a player everywhere because of their depth at defense, which most teams need. So, if you got a little creative, and keep caps in mind, I am sure you could figure out a third team to make this all work. I actually think Minny and the Pens line up well, it's just a question of what the Wild are prepared to give up, if they are rebuilding, or if they are just going to reshuffle for another playoff attempt. The direction of this team is still very up in the air.

It's only a drop of 8 picks from the Wild's 1st to the Sabres' 2nd. As a draft day move, if the player the Wild were targeting was not available...and IF they have any interest in Fasching (which they might have a little, not much)...they might pull the trigger on this deal. They would also move up about 55ish pics from the 5th to the 4th round. This trade isn't as lopsided as it looks at first.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Clyde_Frog_FTW</b></div><div>Honestly, that Bassman guy is ******* idiot. He think Spurgeon is going to lose a step at 29 years old. He also thinks he's one of the worst defenseman in the league. Either bassman is a really good troll, or he doesn't ACTUALLY watch Wild hockey. Truth be told, swapping Spurgeon for Brodin is more likely, and probably a more fair value for both teams.</div></div>
You need to work on your reading skills. I never said any of that. I have stated I AM CONCERNED about what happens when Spurgeon loses a step...which will happen, and when it does...he is done. He might very well play at his current level for 10 more years. Not many have a higher hockey IQ than he does...so if anyone can figure out how to maintain his play as he gets older, it will be Spurgeon. However, father time waits for no one, so...
Also, I think he's a terrific player...just not my favorite "type" of player. I prefer big, mean, and nasty d-men with good skill to small, finesse guys with crazy skills.
Anyways, if you are 10 years old, I apologize for the reading comment...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>marmon725</b></div><div>How do people value Hanifin vs like a Brodin or even Maata? Feels like there has been some overvaluing of him. MN would take that trade for brodin if you made it a 2nd not a first.</div></div>
Just my opinion, but I would imagine Hanifin is viewed as the better asset compared to a Brodin or Maata. He's a few years younger and putting up better numbers than those two....but more importantly...the expected upward trajectory for him is a little steeper than those other two.
I think the 'over valuing' of him is related to the difficulty in acquiring top pairing defencemen. He's not a stud d-man right now...but it's almost impossible to trade for one of those...so teams would be willing to take somewhat of a gamble by over paying for a good young d-man that appears to be on the track of becoming a stud. It's a tricky game because most defencemen don't have a consistent positive growth in their development. Most will struggle for a year or two vs where there game is expected to be at (based on draft pedigree or performance in years 1-2). Maata and Brodin might be good examples of that right now...where their respective performances are falling below where most thought they'd be right now.

Paul Fenton Plan
Coyle, while he can certainly be frustrating at times with his disappearing acts, is one of the very few (especially after Fletcher F'd up with the Tuck fiasco) right-shot forward in the entire Wild organization...while they have about 1000 David Schlemko's lying around. Schlemko is a redundant part for the Wild - Coyle is a rare commodity. Plus, Coyle is coming off an injury-plagued season so the Wild would be selling him very low, plus he is on a good contract for the team...not a good plan.

Looks like a Forsberg-Erat type deal. Renting Staal for 1 playoff run at the cost of a blue-chip prospect and a 1st wouldn't be the best idea for the Blues IMO. Adding a big-name center would be huge, but we'll be looking for someone with term (or that we can get a few more good years out of if we extend them).
I think Cane is coming in a little high on Dumba AAV but we'll see.
